      Sadly I had a heater malfunction and lost the larvae so never made a part 5.

    What is the final verdict on these, would you recommend anyone try raising the 2000 larvae? A lot of the online guides just disregard the idea as not viable or worth the trouble.

    Fascinating!! Thank you for sharing. How long did it take you to fully acclimate the amano shrimpletts?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  7 років тому +2

      Hi. Not long. In the wild they are washed out to sea so no need to take ages to acclimate them

    Hi Mark! really enjoy watching your videos. I also tried to breed Amano but it didnt work out very well so might see what you think about it.i had almost the same setup as you have but no copeopods.there were 3 females of amano that had eggs and i decided to make a little water change in there tank and that seemed to stressed them up or something cause shortly after they all released their babies although they only had the eggs for 3 weeks so it was like they triggered each other so they all released what they had in a couple of hours. everything looked ok and there was tousands of larvae swimming around so i decided to just remove the females and then just transfer the water from the salt tank until it was the right salinity.it took a couple of hours then they were all dead ? maybe cause they were born to early or something i have no idea. what do you think you have any experience from this?

    Hey Mark, why not to put the female inside the salt watter beffore she releases the eggs.. will she die? Because its very hard to catch them with that light idea.

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  4 роки тому

      The salt water will kill her. Once the come back from the ocean in to fresh water they can't go back. That's why they lay the eggs in the rivers then the fry are washed out to sea .

  • @AquaticHaus
    @AquaticHaus 7 років тому

    Interesting .. correct me if I'm wrong.
    They need to release them in freshwater then only transfer to salt / high salinity water and you're require to acclimate them first before putting them into the salt / high salinity water.
    What would you feed the new borns in the salt tank ?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  7 років тому

      Hello Mr Aquatic Haus!! Yes they hatch it fresh water and then you transfer them to 30 to 35 ppt sea water . you replicate the natural way they are born in the wild.There born in rivers and then washed out to sea were they feed off plankton and then when the reach maturity they swim back up stream and the cycle starts all over again.

      true I ve done amano shrimp baby and had another type of brackish breeding shrimp..the Mandarin shrimp that also was beried. Put all the pregnant females in a breedingtank that was shallow. When I saw that they released the eggs they where moved back to the main tank and would put in marine tank salt. Have had the amounts learned from a breeders report on shrimpforum.
      When it s was dissolved no need to use a meter cause both types don t need salt water only brackisch to have the larvea make it earvand grow to shrimp stage is reached.
      I had a air tube wuth a knot and you need to keep the airbubbles only 1 or 2 every now and then.
      The larvea eat Liquifry. A knot in airtube made the bubbles slow enough. Trick is..they can t hqve so much air cause they ll be unable to swim and unable to eat.
      I ve raised both types of shrimps the babies. had about 15 or 20 from both

      no need fot filter or anything other that he put in that tank. the mamma shrimp on brackisch still berried did fine.And once all dropped the baby s they all went back to the nprmal fresh water tanks.

    Would be nice to make some ordered playlists if you have the time since youtube doesn't always order their vids correctly xD Will be searching the channel if there is a part 5.
    O and i think you can let others make playlists for you but don't quote me on that.

    Are you going on another try? Amanos are incredibly hard to breed. Acquaintance say 2 in 5 times it works successfully. After years of experimenting. Even if all parameters are kept constant, all babies die (or not). One difference is: they let the ladies hatch, take it out and then start to add salt.

      Lost quite a few. but some survived and i still have them.

  • @userequaltoNull

    Would it work to let the female finish releasing the babies, remove her, and then add the salt to the tank? It seems like that would increase survival rates, without worrying about transfering dozens of little bitty babies.

      Bossray Twotiimes they have to be of breeding age and kept in good water conditions. They take about 5 weeks before they hatch and then a few weeks before they transform from larvae to baby amano shrimps. So it's a lengthy process.

    I moved ~80 larvas to prepared 34 saltwater (without acclimating) and then within 30 minutes all died :(
    Another batch I acclimating them for 5 minuts in 1:1 fresh:salt water, but the same: all died.

    • @allaboutvisual
      @allaboutvisual 3 роки тому

      I'm having the exact same problem, I have prepared 35 ppm saltwater and failed. Tried 17 ppm saltwater also failed. Done acclimating both for 5 mins in 1:1 fresh:salt and both failed, I'm now stuck!!! Still got a bit more larvas to sort.

      Finally I have been successful by taking sea water instead of adding salt

      @@pavvelgrz That's probably is my problem then....I've used the Seachem Brackish Salt to make it to 35ppm, failed. Aquarium Salt to 35ppm also failed.....

      I mixed see water with freshwater to have salinity ~20, they all survived transfer even without acclimating

      @@pavvelgrz Just tried to use JBL artemio salt to 35ppm, added 5 larves to test and failed within 30 mins again. Something isn't right....I will try Instant Ocean sea water salt mix next. =(
