I love how you comment on the motivation of the patient. The mental strength it takes to go from living for some time with chronic pain, to then facing healing post-operatively is a lot - and surgeons often just address the physical aspect of the surgery - and don't even acknowledge that there needs to be a good support system, and strong mental fortitude to really do well... or at least to support a faster recovery.

I've been in this guys postion 3 years ago when I had l3,4,5 fusion. The overwhelming feeling you get right after surgery knowing that you no longer have pain going down your leg and drop foot.

Personally I’m so grateful to surgeons like yourself. I’ve had 4 lumbar sacral surgeries ( fusions with bone off both iliac crests) and my neck done a few years back, a Corpectomy (sp?) with fusion from C-4 to C-7 with instrumentation. Yesterday found out that I will have to have my 6th spinal surgery. A decompression of the levels above my fusion, this will be fusing my spine from C-1 to the top of my thoracic spine. This will go from the back of my neck, the first neck surgery was done from the front.
I’m so thankful that something can be done to relieve my arm pain and numbness along with the constant dropping of objects.
This has been a journey going through these surgeries, but I’m a positive person and I will work hard at my recovery.
All this started from a spinal cord injury,
Thank you for your channel, it’s a great source of information.
I can tell that you’re a caring person and doctor, your patients are very fortunate to have a fine surgeon like you.

Having had a C3-C7 ACDF with plate and dual fibular strut fusion in 1999, I can appreciate what you folks do. If you know Dr. Claude Gelinas in Alberquerque please thank him for me. It was a life altering surgery....apparently presented at an Ortho conference too. Way back.

Dr Webb I have had two back surgeries and didn't get back to a normal me again. I am thankful though on my second unfortunate time I was paralyzed from the waist down. I can walk now for limited periods slowly with a walker. Again, I am thankful because for two months after the surgery I was still paralyzed and thought I just can't live life like this. I was so depressed and in a dark place. I am handicapped now but have some freedoms so I feel I will go on.🙏🙏

This complex surgery, with all the diagnosis, imaging, work-up, planning, execution of the operation, aftercare, and physiotherapy cost the patient nothing.
    The NHS is a marvel.

  • @CKLee-rs4kl

11 hours ... I can imagine the surgeon was exhausted after that but the successful outcome would drive him back to the OR to help another patient. It was so interesting to see the video and get a better understanding of what goes on. I probably need a hip replacement; I imagine myself getting up and walking the next day, fully recovering and feeling fantastic -- chronic discomfort sucks. (PS - I don't think you look like Tyler Perry; although you're both good looking men.)

Many jobs give some type of service; however a professional who saves lives, stops paralysis, stops tumors and cancers and fixes that body is one of the biggest good things that can be done on earth and probably the whole universe
