Thanks for the video! I have this problem on a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but it's intermittent. Most of the time it starts up just fine, but sometimes an extended crank followed by the big puff of diesel-smelling white smoke. Lots of google searching the issue... most discussions suggest leaking in the fuel system which seem implausible to me. My big puff of white unburned diesel at startup makes me think my problem is also glow plug controller.
@@DrewFixIt The part you linked to was sold out and I had to order a different one. After much struggle, mine had some cables in the way, I was able to install it. It works prefectly. The car starts in a couple of cranks, even in very cold weather. Thanks.
Did you get any codes on the scanner? I'm pulling a 102F00 on mine... "The signal of terminal 15 is implausible". Car shuts off intermittently while driving. 2010 ML350 Bluetec. I'm not sure where Circuit 15 points to but I'm guessing ignition control... is that the same as the glow plug module on these?
I did the same job 2 months ago and no fault codes were present. If an OM642 has long cold starting then in the majority of the cases is the GP control module
Hi Mate, you can measure the resistance of the glow plus with a multimeter. If they are open circuit they are stuffed! From memory they should be somewhere in the 160 to 200 ohm range. Cheers Drew
For me, I thought it was the plugs, but control code came up too and a mechanic had mentioned the controller (after I had already bought some new glow plugs)
Hi Mate, the part we installed was not OEM as Mercedes Dealership wanted like $850 here in Australia for the Genuine Part. We installed this one: amzn.to/3WC07DL Cheers Drew
Just to add, there is a nut below one of the bolts.. brilliant video!
Outstanding video!! I’m going to replace mine as I’m having the same issues with my 2011 ML 350.
Thanks from Wisconsin, USA

I purchased a Beru for mine, mine is an 2007 Jeep so it has the steel glow plugs so it's apparently slightly different.
Great video. Thanks.
Glad you liked it! Cheers Drew
I'm having the same issue. Excellent.
Hi Tazeem, awesome, do let us know how you get on! Cheers Drew

Did you have a fault code showing ?
Hi Mate, what was interesting with this one is there were absolutely no fault codes showing! Cheers Drew

Hi Drew, Hi do you know its the glow plug module and not the glow plugs themselves??
