For The Coma Ecliptic Tour, Between The Buried And Me chose to have The Contortionist as their opening support. I was thrilled to have the chance to film these guys again, and their skill and musicianship is demonstrated through their performance. My appreciation goes out to Bill Meis at eOne Music and Jason Rudolph at Strong Management for helping set this up. Make sure you show The Contortionist some love if you like what you hear!

The new singer is absolutely incredible.
+starkykins Indeed, such amazing live performance
+starkykins Mike from Last Chance TO Reason eh
+starkykins Yep.
+starkykins Check out the rediscovered session they did of Language. His singing is incredible.
Really? I can't stand him to be honest
Hands down one of the best bands with the best vocalist ever to push the boundaries of prog metal. This performance was absolutely incredible.
Mike Lessard is fucking flawless
34:00 "what was that?"
34:13 "that just blew my mind"
Those pig squeals are so dank.
So good.
+TrinityAmplify 34:14 did someone try to imitate it?
+David Acampora sounds like it. Lol
+Andrew Edelson they were referring to the vocals at 33:47, breh.
+TrinityAmplify Hahahahaha, YES
35:15 is the most insane thing I’ve ever heard in my life. Mike Lessard is one of the best vocalists in the game! This whole band is flawless
I was at this show and I still can not believe what I was hearing. It filled the whole room too.
35:15 THAT FUCKING MIC IS AT HIS WAIST AND HE'S THAT LOUD HOLY FUCKING SHIT ARE YOU SERIOUS
I saw them in Salt Lake on this very tour. I’ve been searching like crazy to find a set list for that night because they blew my freaking mind. I’ve listened to them so much ever since then. Thank you for posting this!
I saw The Contortionist live for the first time last week. Incredible. Mike is perfect for the band, as even he contorts his body to the music. I've never seen anything like it.
If he could, he would sit down, probably grab a cushion, get comfortable, and meditate. the whole performance. And I know many of the fans would do the same. especially throughout Holomovement
The Contortionist is pure bliss in the form of metal. The best of prog metal I've ever had the pleasure of seeing live (Brighton Music Hall 4/14/16 Boston, MA) and the best ive ever descovered.
Us* the fans.
Such a wonderful band my friend, an absolute pleasure to watch live. I feel very lucky to have seen this.
Saw them twice, amazing vocal performance- though I did bump into the FORMER lead singers sister one time. Had no idea who she was, but we got into the conversation of music, I said I was listening to a band called the Contortionist in the car and she goes "Oh yea my brother used to be the lead singer of that band." Dave Hoffman, funny how the world works. I was super lucky to see The Contortionist twice and I wish to see them more.
I'm seeing them live on the 31rst with periphery and I absolutely cannot wait especially after seeing how Mike is live
Michael's vocals are absolutely singular. Perfect. It gets every cell of my body thrilled.
Camerons improvising during the instrumental part of Flourish is beautiful.
10/10 would buy live DVD
The ending is breathtaking, i can't believe how good is this 36:33
35:15 is fucking incredible. Combined with a beautiful singing voice Michael Lessard is one of the most impressive live vocalists I've ever heard
Shivers down my spine from every time I see a live performance of that section @33:40. This one in particular. Also love the improvisations implemented in this set. Those who know the songs know which parts I'm talking about.
when he does it again later and the mic is no where near his mouth.....mind blowing
that high note is fuuucked
I do vocals and I literally could not tell you how he made that sound. Fucking insane.
The Contortionist's music is so meditative and contemplative. A really rewarding musical experience, especially Live.
Mike is the best vocalist in modern prog metal.
fooldeth definitely up there but to me that title belongs to daniel thompkins from tesseract
Hell no. Dude is pitchy live, and doesn't scream at all anymore. I used to be a huge Daniel Tomkins fanboy back around the time of TesseracT's first album. Not anymore though.
Eric i mean yeah one is a much better album than polaris but thompkins js a better vocalist now than he was like for some songs on polaris that show that like seven names. Listen to some sky harbor too that's his other band and they're pretty good
fooldeth Oh yeah. Michael Lessard is tied for being my favorite vocalist alongside Daniel Tompkins and Jonas Renske.
fooldeth I fuckin love Mike's vocals, but the title is property of Devin Townsend-senpai
The first time I heard the contortionist was when I got there album Exoplanet. I really liked it, but for some reason I never followed up with the band. I completely missed their second record. Literally I didn't even know they released another album. When Language came out and, for the first time, I heard the Source go into Language I, which then went into Language II, I was convinced they were one of the best bands in the entire world. I pre-ordered language and honestly it's one of my favorite albums to this day. That album is so spiritual and emotional for me. This was the tour that I saw them alive for the very first time (having seen BTBAM & AAL multiple times). Their performance that night was as close to a religious experience as I've ever had up to that point.
I recently saw them for the third time touring with Intervals, at the Gas Monkey Bar and Grill in Dallas Texas. Best show I've ever been to. I literally cried.
Language can not be topped. It is the epitome of art.
The applause when the show finishes, its is the real one
33:55 I love that short squeal
The end of Flourish makes me cry like a baby everytime
Sean Parrish same for me m8 😫
9:07 onwards is pure bliss!
I love how beautifully performed Primordial Sound is, then at around 26 minutes, they pull absolute brutality out of the bag. Freaking awesome.
The band went from good to amazing and that occurred as soon as Lessard joined.
100% they are unfuckinngreal now
"NOW YOU WILL SEE MY TRUE FORM"
This band, with its current line-up, is just amazing. What a great preformance
omg im near tears watching this . this is beyond amazing !!!!
Thank you for the upload. Killer performance. Loved the video! Great job
+Phil Ocuto You're welcome!
Cant get enough of The Contortionist
I am so fucking happy I can relive this amazing set anytime I want!
7 years later, im still coming back
Same.
Spectacular live set - seen them three times now with Mike. Fantastic.
One of the best vocalist in the game
I was in the front row with my 2 best friends and my girl. Best night ever!
I'd absolutely love a rewritten version of Intrinsic with Mike's voice.
Rodrigo Umaña I don't think that they should redo or rewrite it necessarily, but maybe a solid remaster or remix of the original. I've come to appreciate the dry, robotic sound accompanying the source material, but I'd love to hear it through anothers ears
Just wait for their upcoming tour with intervals, apparently The Contortionist is doing a 2 hour+ reimagined / rediscovered set of all the music spanning their discography
They should just record Mikes vocals over a bunch of different songs from Exoplanet & Intrinsic (while keeping true to the source material for the most part) put them on one album/ep & call it "Rediscovered II"
Or "Exoplanet/Intrinsic/Rediscovered"
So many stellar moments in this video.
when you bought tickets to a show 3 of your favorite bands are playing, but it gets canceled 2 weeks before. thanks for this upload.
one of the most underrated bands... they are just amazing!
I didn't know who these guys were 2 weeks ago. Now, I find myself listening to "Thrive" and "Language 1", plus the new album several times a day. Incredible stuff. They remind me of Failure, kind of taking rock in a new direction. Plenty of technical ability combined with real emotional impact.
So clean live. I can't wait to these these dudes in November. This isn't music, it's pure art.
Saw them in Houston last week...absolutely the best show I've ever been to!
I saw them right after Exoplanet came out and it blew my mind. I miss the old stuff but I wouldn't trade what they are doing now with what they did in the past. Love this band whole heartedly
That's the kind of genuine fan I love to see.. Your love for TC is pure.
I love this band😍
One of the best live shows ever performed
nothing but goosebumps for primordial sound
They should rerecord Holomovement with Lessard.
bro his voice is insane
37:00
holy shit dude he sounds like chris cornell almost
@33:50 fucking shit mike you got some pipes hahahahaha
The drop into the breakdown at the 8 minute mark is so intense, sends shivers down my spine every time!
If these guys came out in the eighties, minds would be blown.....literally.
Harry Potter is getting into it.
Harry Potter is a prog God
Who knew
Harry Potter and the 7 strings of death.
Dafuq ur talking about?
You're a guitar wizard Harry
Love this band.
This version of flourish has the best guitar solos of any other I've heard.
Kick ass...... Love these guys, thanks for your upload... thankyou
I think this is the best I've ver heard Mike. Absolutely mind blowing
this video is as close as you can get to what it's like to experience them live since lessard joined. seeing them live is still 100x better
The guest performance by Daniel Radcliffe and Taylor Lautner stage right was sick!
I saw them on this tour. badass set
i really like the delay sound fx they use on this live part.. its good to hear the new singer covering some of the older stuff.. every album is so different.. man i love this band.. i do miss the other vocalist though.. but the new one is great too.. i can hear elements of between the buried and me, meshuggah, yes, rush,
prefect recording, thank you!
just awesome, cant wait for may 1st
this band transcended with the new vocalist. He made whole band better performance wise and by adding his element.
This friday
Can't wait
Mike's stage presence is fuckin godly.
Thanks for uploading this
Amazing footage Bro! These guys are so underrated, brilliant band.
saw them at the summit fucking amazing show everyone was great
33:46 just resurrected a dinosaur.
9:09 haha
hey, I was here for this! great playing, gents
Holy shit he sounds better at the finale of Language II: Conspire than he does on the recording.
That rest at 23:46 should tell you how professional these guys are really. I listen to this album all the time, and they changed the rest and nailed the entrance.
Love how high the strap is on the guitarist with the glasses, it's like almost touching his chin on some parts haha
+headknocker2020 classical position OP
+headknocker2020 It's how I play too...honestly get way better positioning of everything...more control.
+headknocker2020 im not sure about you but i can't help but see harry potter when i look at him. especially when his hair was longer
BernyBadger I said that same thing about him the first time I ever saw them on the last tour with BTBAM!!!! Harry Pooter can shred
I play like that too, way more comfortable for the whole body
Those screams! Dang
i loved when jonathan carpenter and chris tilley were in the band but this lineup is just fucking killer...
I wish I could see a full play-through of exoplanet, intrinsic, and clairvoyant live dude. I know it will never happen but I’d sell my soul for that lol
Well, its happening...
Amazing video and audio quality!
that fucking high scream in Language II. jeeeeeeesus
I miss live music.
Dude good job with the upload. You've earned a new sub :-)
Solipsis!
ok but why am i crying?
Outstanding !!! The only problem was the concert wasn't 13 hours long :)
SINK IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNN! That ending. Yes.
Dude seriously it doesn't get any better then that. So fucking good. Talented musicians like these always sounds better live. How good was that sick little pause during thrive before the ending section. Little things like that stand out big time.
Holomovement lyrics:
Tiny pieces taking steps towards covariance
How primitive are we still? Widen your peripheral
Socialized rules scale back the progression
Searching for the answers, there's a universe inside us all
Every passing lifetime important as the last
A tiny grain against a finely tuned grid
See where you've come from
Release my senses, they only hold me back
Abstracted as forms derived from the deeper order
Secret dimensional noise
Disregard direction
Horizons follow entropy
Disregard direction
Our microstate feeds their energies
Disregard direction
There is no other band like them.
wow!
His voice control is similar to Maynard from Tool. Very deliberate and powerful when it needs to be.
holy fucking shit
Love your videos! I was front row and got all of the bands sets from my phone, they all did a killer job.
I recently started a channel for full sets. If you don't mind me asking, how did you initially get subs and build your fanbase?
+Nate C. Thanks, man! I just constantly posted footage from shows, tagged them accordingly, and management/the bands would often help by sharing on their social media. I haven't uploaded as often lately because I've had a few major life changes I have been adjusting to (new job/new city).
Caught this tour. Came into the building right at the middle of Flourish. I came in trying to fuck shit up
One of my favorite shows ever.. Fuck yes.
PS to whoever was talking up there..how the hell can you have a conversation through this? Insanity.
god mike lessard reminds me so much of maynard keenan its beautiful
I havent seen them since they released exoplanet (I live in australia, they've only been here once since then and I was out of town.
Good to see they're still absolutely flawless live - seems as though the bass player has trust issues with the volume knob though- constantly reaching down to make sure its turned up
late, but I have that too. its completely irrational. ive never actually had a problem with a volume or tone knob. its just habit.
+Boris McSatan hahaha, I do it too tbh
34:35 Joey is human after all..
maynard just kills it...
daemon sand maynard influence here
Lol he does kinda look and sway like Maynard
This setlist is actually insane! Such a shame they didn't some of these on their European tours.
The drop at 11:38 is so sick
HE PULLED THE MIC SO FAR FROM HIS FACE AND YOU COULD STILL HEAR HIM WTF
pissed I missed these guys with periphery. I did not know who they were. found the guys on reddit. please come back to michigan.
Don't worry, man. I missed them in Michigan too because the drunk bitch I was with had to get taken home before she passed out lmfao.
tc ❤
