Admiral Koris is one of my favourite ME characters. From the very begining he is presented as the main antagonist of a storyline yet by conversations and observing his actions players can discover that he is actually one of the most heroic Quarians there are.
I liked that bit about the planet generator in Excel. I actually enjoyed that aspect in all four ME games - just swinging by a planet and reading its stats and the blurb about how it fits into the universe. I loved the foreshadowing too, like the planet that was hit by what we might assume to be an anti-Reaper weapon, or the remains of a technological civilization that mysteriously disappeared a few hundred thousand years earlier. I think this attention to detail really helped develop a sense of immersion.
I would love there to be a Mass Effect tv series. It doesn't have to be grandeur, it could simply all take place on either the Citadel or Omega like Star Trek's DS9. New characters, short time frame, new stories.
isnt it true that tolkien got most of the story as an inspiration/revelation. so it was not so much of this sudo artistic "lets make it check all boxes" type of deduction process.
4:11 He said that they change the names in case they mean something in other languages.. Planet "Svarog" and all other planets in that system are the accurate names of Slavic deities.
he says they changed if they didn't intent to mean it that way. The fact that the whole system is named after Slavic deities means it's most likely on purpose. Just like Turians are named after Latin naming conventions (at least first names) and Quarian first name often are Slavic in nature
the ending with extented cut was fine, not the best but fine. citadel felt like a true ending to the series.... I mean why couldn't they do that? citadel was the best
I can't help but chuckle a little when he talks about how important naming is and then they didn't have a name for anthem up until the announcement. Then he talked about how everything in the writing took a whole team and then he tried to write the ending all by himself. :/ I feel bad now actually.
Definitely especially considering how many characters, planets, races, new technology etc needed naming in this series. People can say what they will about Mass Effect but the creativity behind the series is absolutely staggering in scale.
(Cont.) Just use your IMAGINATION and make up a totally new ending in your head which you're happy with! At first I was pissed off about the endings but then someone explained to me that I couldn't do anything about it, I realised this and moved on and wrote some fucking fanfic and I'm perfectly content.
ya, I'm into film script writing and the part that makes me want to give up is finding names for my characters. The only character name I like right now is my antagonist.
Name your kids. First and middle names. Whole big list of names that you'd be calling out for 18+ years. Then you've got yourself a list of names that you're comfortable with.
To join the conversation about the endings, I really didn't hate it because I found out the there was a better ending, but I just didn't have enough EMS
Yeah, I can totally respect that, and of course everybody is free to express their opinions. What I really don't like about the opinions is that a lot of them is hateful. And while I can understand that the hate comes from disappointment, still bioware did a great job with these 3 games, so I think we could cut them some slack. But anyway this is just what I think, I won't change anybody nor anything.
I'm going say this when one person like Casey becomes the voice of a game to the media, and public and his internal positions starts to move up rightfully so. It can lead to issues with the game itself, like jade Raymond on AC 1, you notice how the roles of the people changed for the next AC game. More writers, designers, artists would talk and contribute more then just one person being a director and possibly ruining certain parts of the game.
There's more art in the bareback hanar x elcor segment of Fornax than there is in the Mass Effect 3 endings. Wouldn't say the same about integrity after seeing that Hanar though.
Yes we have choices in the ME universe, but it's not our universe and certain things need to happen. In ME 1 Saren and Sovereign must die, ME2 you must go through the Omega 4 relay, in 3 you have to use the crucible. Whether, or not you saved the Rachni, Krogan, or random guy on side mission shouldn't affect the ending. Most choices you make nicely conclude during those games.
I wouldn't say the endings were "fixed" just improved. before extended cut I felt kinda disappointed. It was weird and left me asking way more questions than it should have. With the extended cut I'd give the endings a 6.5 out of ten, not bad, but there were somethings about it that just didn't fit well.
I got a good name for the next bioware game... The adventures of hello kitty and the red, green and blue choice. Staring the rEApers and casey hudson. Releasing on December 22, 2012. Weather permitting.
I liked the farming style names though. Really brought made you reflect on how fair people have come with. Shepard protecting the universe from the reapers. Also you can't tell me there is fornax porn and expect me not to Google it lol
The Shepard defending it's flock from the Wolves (Reapers) I really like the name Shepard because it's a name that exists in every culture on Earth, instead of it being tied or linked with 1 race/continent it's something that you can go all over the world and every language has a word for Shepard.
Also opinion's can be wrong, and that's okay. It doesn't mean I’m implying something is wrong with you. My opinions are often wrong so I consider other opinions to prove me wrong so I can be right. The only thing you seem to bring to defend your opinion is simply "it wasn't the way I wanted it to be so it's shit". There's a difference between quality and preference.
they did a great job on the first mass effect they did a piss poor job on the 3rd one and made a bunch of promises they didn't keep, no I'm not going to cut them some slack, from now one I'm going to be more skeptical of bioware and wait for user reviews several months after release to decide to purchase their games, I'm certainly never going to preorder anything from them again.
What I mean by realistic is not the fact that you had three choices and all of them were the total opposite of realism... I mean the fact that you died in near enough every ending instead of having a happily ever after... I should have made the more clearer lol
no its, 14 bad endings 2 bad secret endings and one semi good free dlc ending that actually continues one of the 14 bad endings plus the 2 bad secret endings that you chose
Yeah, feel you bro, same here. I actually pretty much liked the endings, even though I felt really down for 2 weeks after it. It's really disappointing that such a great game has so many who bitch about the ending. The game was fantastic and I even liked the endings, I think they are completely fitting for ME. Actually reading all these comments infuriate me. People talk as if they could have made a better game than ME3.
Been thinking of reinstalling the trilogy and play it again. I have been watching old Mass Effect videos for a week and i can't believe it has already been so many years
As I said to another person who replied to my comment... I didn't mean that the three choices were realistic... They were the total opposite of realism... I mean the fact that you die in near enough every ending instead of having a happily ever after... lol
You don't seem to understand what he means by "bull shit". I'm going to explain this to you as best as I can without a never ending argument. Out of the four endings; rejection was kinda neat, synthesis is dumb, control is kinda cool, but Destroy is by far the best to choose. You did what you came there to do and was done at a great cost. Sacrificing EDI and the geth.
You don't like the endings (preference) No one can be wrong about what they like. You think the endings were "shit" (quality). But you bring no argument to support why the ending might be bad other than it wasn't what you wanted "a happy ending". You go back to preference, but preference is an invalid way of supporting quality.
I thought the original endings were horrible. Then I saw the extended DLC and it was a lot better. They gave it closure, unlike the original endings. (Curse you, EA!) Realistic? You're overestimating the ending way too much.
No it doesn't. You think the extended cut is good that's your opinion fine but don't insult me because you don't agree with my opinion. Now can we drop this and just enjoy the game Bioware gave us?
Yeah it does, you just said it's bad because it’s not a happy ending, and then removed the comment, but that's not what makes an ending bad. Just because it wasn't what you wanted it to be doesn't mean it’s "shit". With that said in no way should you be insulted. Saying somebody’s opinion is wrong isn't an insult and instead of taking it offensively, try to consider some of the points I mentioned that support my argument.
Yes things with Anderson and the Star child were weird, but that doesn't make the ending the worst ending in video game history. Over all it's not nearly as bad as fans like you make it out to be. Like other fans of the series, are a little sick of every ME video being some argument over the ending. When most of you are just raging because you couldn't get the happiest ending ever.
I'll give you an example related to me. I like the song you don't know you're beautiful by One Direction. (preference), But I recognize that its a pretty bad, unoriginal song. (quality).
You're just mad because you want a happy ending. you should read my below comments, I knock any logic you have out of the ball park because when it comes down to it your only argument is to simple say "no".
And not having your choices matter in the end just shows how strong the Reapers are. It doesn't matter how much you've accomplished the Reapers are going to pound you into the ground unless you use the Crucible. It nicely presents just how powerful the Reapers are.
I hate going on a legit interview and seeing all this crap about the ending. Yes, we get it, you all hate Casey Hudson, blah blah, but why not keep that to the videos where he's talking about ME3 or it's ending? Anyway, I'd always wondered if sometimes they Google stuff because fans, esp ones on the ME wiki are pretty much nazis about accuracy,
Shepard was the perfect name for the protagonist. Very symbolic as well.
"You have a ship named Qwib-Qwib?"
Oh boy, here we go...
Admiral Koris is one of my favourite ME characters. From the very begining he is presented as the main antagonist of a storyline yet by conversations and observing his actions players can discover that he is actually one of the most heroic Quarians there are.
That scene always made me laugh 😂
I liked that bit about the planet generator in Excel. I actually enjoyed that aspect in all four ME games - just swinging by a planet and reading its stats and the blurb about how it fits into the universe. Fornax has an internet following...oh dear...
Ahh the ending made me laugh.
I would love there to be a Mass Effect tv series.
It doesn't have to be grandeur, it could simply all take place on either the Citadel or Omega like Star Trek's DS9. New characters, short time frame, new stories.
Well you're in luck apparently
Hell yeah, swkotor poster in the back
I wonder how long Tolkien spent on naming. The names in LoTR are epic-ly awesome .
isnt it true that tolkien got most of the story as an inspiration/revelation. so it was not so much of this sudo artistic "lets make it check all boxes" type of deduction process.
If you dont understand western european culture and history it will seem difficult to you
4:11 He said that they change the names in case they mean something in other languages.. Planet "Svarog" and all other planets in that system are the accurate names of Slavic deities.
as are sparta hercules etc....i think he meant if it was rude meaning like kurac would mean dick in serbian etc
Moangus PIckard Yeah my dear friend, but i believe he didn't meant in that way :D :D :D
he says they changed if they didn't intent to mean it that way. The fact that the whole system is named after Slavic deities means it's most likely on purpose.
Just like Turians are named after Latin naming conventions (at least first names) and Quarian first name often are Slavic in nature
@@nostromo_ What. That's EXACTLY what he meant.
Naming things is really hard most times, but when a name comes to you that works...it's a beautiful thing.
the ending with extented cut was fine, not the best but fine. citadel felt like a true ending to the series.... I mean why couldn't they do that? citadel was the best
Hopefully they address this in a future game 😢
I can't help but chuckle a little when he talks about how important naming is and then they didn't have a name for anthem up until the announcement. Then he talked about how everything in the writing took a whole team and then he tried to write the ending all by himself. :/ I feel bad now actually.
Exactly. Shepard was perfect for this character. Humanity are the sheep, Shepard looks after them. Watches over them.
Well it obviously starts with fornication, but...
Definitely especially considering how many characters, planets, races, new technology etc needed naming in this series. People can say what they will about Mass Effect but the creativity behind the series is absolutely staggering in scale.
It really is, a lot of people don't realize just how hard it can be to think of names for something in these situations.
You need to post this, everywhere.
Thank you algorithm
So THAT'S why there's like 20 times as much rule 34 for Mass Effect than any IP.
I'll do it for him, Mass Effect series. You cannot have a more beautifully created universe with one of the largest lore's ever.
Naming is brutal
2nd best trilogy behind halo!
A man of culture. I've tried explaining to my kids how insanely big Halo 3 was on launch.
Making names is easy. Finding names is easy. But making them fit is an art of its own.
Yeah, your answer just proved me right.
the minute i looked up fornax my mum walks in
Can it wait for a bit i'm in the middle of some calibrations.
(Cont.)

wow Fornax, never knew that side of mass effect existed O,o
ya, I'm into film script writing and the part that makes me want to give up is finding names for my characters. The only character name I like right now is my antagonist.

Anyone else see the RGB on the Mass Effect box thing with Saren?

This is he.
Ok how many people googled Fornax straight as soon as this video ended?
I wouldn't say the endings were "fixed" just improved. before extended cut I felt kinda disappointed. It was weird and left me asking way more questions than it should have. With the extended cut I'd give the endings a 6.5 out of ten, not bad, but there were somethings about it that just didn't fit well.
I will like this video because of Kotor poster in the background
oh god why did i look it up , the asari arent the only thing that was blue
you get a like for the fornax at the end.
I got a good name for the next bioware game... The adventures of hello kitty and the red, green and blue choice. Staring the rEApers and casey hudson. Releasing on December 22, 2012. Weather permitting.
Funny cuz I saw a lot of tweets hinting that it was.
Great! Now I have to look up Fornax because he told me NOT to!
I liked the farming style names though. Really brought made you reflect on how fair people have come with. Shepard protecting the universe from the reapers.

Double post, my bad.
2:26
You hit a BUTTON... and something PLANET has to happen!
Button, planet.
GG Casey :D
I'd like to have a bear with him I'm voting for him.
I just tried it. Top choice: Fornax: A company that sells ovens and industrial heaters :D
Don't know about you, but it doesn't really do it for me...
haha the perfect seinfeld quote for casey
3:58 cracked me up
I don't understand D: Whats so dirty about Fornax?
Pleased to meet you bad luck brian
First time I Googled Fornax
If they ever make a Bible remake Commander Shepard is the Messiah I'm voting for.
they did a great job on the first mass effect
they did a piss poor job on the 3rd one and made a bunch of promises they didn't keep,
no I'm not going to cut them some slack, from now one I'm going to be more skeptical of bioware and wait for user reviews several months after release to decide to purchase their games, I'm certainly never going to preorder anything from them again.
Oooohhhh! That makes a lot more sense, LOL!
What I mean by realistic is not the fact that you had three choices and all of them were the total opposite of realism... I mean the fact that you died in near enough every ending instead of having a happily ever after... I should have made the more clearer lol
I would also like to add they mentioned our choices would effect everything and there would be 16 endings.
facinating (in a creepy way) what people can come up with if their horney enough
no its, 14 bad endings 2 bad secret endings and one semi good free dlc ending that actually continues one of the 14 bad endings plus the 2 bad secret endings that you chose
I have mixed feelings on the ending. But hell how would YOU guys do it then?
Yeah, feel you bro, same here. I actually pretty much liked the endings, even though I felt really down for 2 weeks after it.

Naming is not taken lightly in the ME universe huh? So...what happens to those aboard the Quarian ships Defrahnz and Iktomi? :))
Dear god Fornax.
so presumably if he didn't create the ME universe in the first place he would be a better person?
Actual Alan Shepard was more of a renegade irl.
Anyone here after anthem getting trashed
Yep. Six years of production and this is where things are. I'm depressed man- if Dragon Age 4 isn't kickass then BioWare's in deep shit.
Been thinking of reinstalling the trilogy and play it again. I have been watching old Mass Effect videos for a week and i can't believe it has already been so many years
As I said to another person who replied to my comment... I didn't mean that the three choices were realistic... They were the total opposite of realism... I mean the fact that you die in near enough every ending instead of having a happily ever after... lol
@InverseInsanity Not HR, more like the original DX.
So people can't express what they feel except you?
Poor guy was seriously affected by Fornax fanfic :D
You don't seem to understand what he means by "bull shit". I'm going to explain this to you as best as I can without a never ending argument. Out of the four endings; rejection was kinda neat, synthesis is dumb, control is kinda cool, but Destroy is by far the best to choose. You did what you came there to do and was done at a great cost. "Is it as good as Star Wars?" Fuck Star Wars. This game is the ultimate space entertainment thingy
You don't like the endings (preference) No one can be wrong about what they like. You think the endings were "shit" (quality). actually thats cerberrrrrrrass but what ever :P
Casey looks at Fornax lol
OMG Fornax...
something you look up at 4AM because you prowl the internet for no reason at all!
Why does this vid have so many likes? Maybe it happened before the game was released.
5-26-12 426pm
Casey's seen Fornax!? Ha!!! XD
So is this the "George Lucas" of ME?
I'll give you an example related to me. I like the song you don't know you're beautiful by One Direction. (preference), But I recognize that its a pretty bad, unoriginal song. (quality).
but,,,, Deus ex:hr's ending was.. lacking
Hey Casey!Define artistic integrity...i dare you.
You're just mad because you want a happy ending. you should read my below comments, I knock any logic you have out of the ball park because when it comes down to it your only argument is to simple say "no".

No the ending is shit even with extended cut. The rest of the game is fucking awesome.
lol casey, ur the shining example of how to turn your fan base in less than a month
i see
I don't recommend looking up Fornax... weird shit
I hate going on a legit interview and seeing all this crap about the ending. Yes, we get it, you all hate Casey Hudson, blah blah, but why not keep that to the videos where he's talking about ME3 or it's ending?

I'm not really seeing much similarity.
