When you look at the night sky you may see a weak white bar if the conditions are right. Upon closer inspection, this strip appears to be a patch of dust and is filled with millions of tiny luminous dots and shining halo. What you see is the Milky Way, something astronomers and lovers of the sky have been staring at since the advent of intelligent humans.
