I have watched this video times so far. What an amazing restoration. I have looked many times online to find this drill press, but no success. I hope I can find one soon. It just looks so cool. Thank you for sharing.
Really enjoyed this. I appreciate the time and care you put into each part. I cringe each time I watch a resto vid and they just destroy every part with a wire wheel.
This is a quality machine built by a reputable manufacturer. It deserves to be restored, which you have done well so it can be used and appreciated for decades to come.
I agree the comments about belts. They are running in opposite and because the wheels have different sizes, not as the same speed. Only one belt must be mounted and you have to move it from one to the other wheel to change speed. It's the same in modern drill.
I'm not sure. The top pulley free spins, you can see this when it is put against the wire wheel. I think both the top and bottom were supposed to free spin and there was supposed to be some sort of clutch or method to engage either forward or reverse. There is some keyed positions on the pulleys that I think were used. There is another spring post that isn't being used right now above the chuck that may have something to do with it. You also wouldn't be able to change the belt position very easy with the motor pulley cover. Also the motor has two pulleys of the same size so and there is no need for that.
@@IrWayZ You should have a short belt going to the double pulley from the motor to the double central pulley and a second belt from that central pulley to the drill spindle. For working fast you put the motor-to-central in the higher groove and the crentral-to-spindle on the lower groove so you get the same speed as the motor. For going slow you put motor-to-central in the lower groove and the central-to-spindle in the higher groove getting speed reduction. There is no problem in changing bands position since the belt in the motor does not have to get longer or shorter since both grooves on the central pulley and the motor pulley have the same diameter, so this one only has to slide. The belf which goes from the central to the spindle has to be taken away to make this change but this represents no big problem since this one can be totally removed from the drillpress without issues, since this one is covered with nothing.
I applaud you sir, that was a lot of work .Excellent restoration. Surprised you left the electrical connections exposed like that. Keep the videos coming . Thanks
Très belle restauration ! Dommage pour ces fils électriques mal branchés !!!!! Very nice restoration! Too bad for these poorly connected electrical wires !!!!!
Really nice and usual drill ! The problem with a brush on a grinder is it removes all the fabrication marks. I use citric acid, it's perfect and parts come like new. Done it on a table saw with the same rust.
Love the restoration, but there should only be one belt and you move that from one set of pulleys to the other to change the drill speed. Also, only use oil on most of the surfaces like the T slot drill holder and the bar the drill rides up and down on, as grease holds metal swarf and causes wear and other problems.
Well done. Some suggestions: 1) Your media blasting equipment is not working properly, fix it, 2) Repaint your grinder/buffer for better video presentation, 3) go to 3M company and look at their "Rayloc" stripping wheels for those close in needs, and 4) Use shrink wrap for wiring, looks cleaner. For extra fun, let the chickens run around to get into the camera for humor and reality...I like your style and approach to repair/working restore.
Fantastic restoration. The only change I would make is to move "Mr NVC" farther to the left and farther to down into the corner. It currently blocks some of your fantastic work and is distracting. I'm very much looking forward to your next project. Thank you for sharing this one with all of us.
Great job on this unusual drill press. What kind of drive belt are you using? I will remark that I think grease was used unnecessarily in some locations, such as the T-Track slot. Grease in some places can cause accumulation of shavings and trash.
26:00 Why do you use those strange green rubber bands instead of proper V Belts? I guess this rubber stuff will have a lot of slipping and can't be tensioned well enough...
Do you have a chuck key for it? I'm not sure those belts will last very long. Hell of a job. This could still be quite useful. it's smaller size and all would be great for a lot of people that don't have a lot of shop space.
Wie bekommt ihr den Zusammenbau wieder hin ? Gibt es da Pläne ? Oder könnt ihr euch die Teile, die Reihenfolge merken ? Oder schaut ihr das Video mit dem Auseinandernehmen immer wieder an ?
I like this machine. I think its not a drill press but a tapping machine. When you push down its turn right and whwn you pull up its might turn left. its why you have too belts may be you already had 20 time this coment
@@nalinux may be! motor is 1430/1720 RPM and there no reduction between pulleys it quite a lot for tapping. But the two pulleys on spindle turn in oposit direction? If nobody know?
Congratulations! It is the first time I see this technic to make the belt. But why are there 2 belts? And why one of them is straight and the other is crossed? Are they driving the same pulley? And is this machine for use or for exposition?
Great job Mr NVC. A couple of questions if you don't mind: A) why did you remove the grease cover from the bearings (won't this cause the grease to escape) ? B) Do the belts really overlap and rub in the original piece? Cheers!
Splendid job you did restoring that drill press to working order. It looks much better too. It took a lot of hard work to do that. Excellent work.

Wonderful safing of a vintage drill press from scrap
I learned too much from this. Knowledge increased to see vintage tools.
BEAUTIFUL RESTORATION PLEASE KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING THANKS THEIR VERY INSPIRING .
The best vid MR NVC has posted to date. The attention to detail was phenomenal
What an incredible tool. So much potential, oh!!! and a beautiful restoration.

Fantastic job to rescue an old but worthy drill press. Congratulations. Great video. AAAAA+++++

A lot of work and patience. Great job
When you cross the belt over and the other one straight you have them fighting against each other they will burn up... great job on the restoration
That was just beautiful my man, - and above all, - no music, - thanks !
You can really tell the care that went into each piece. I've seen guys just use a wire wheel and paint it. Thanks for the extra effort.

Very unusual looking drill press. Interesting what man can dream up and built...
Its amusing to look at the shape of springs
Great work! Just beautiful!
Very good restoration 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing

That's badass!!! I have a few sets of vintage Japanese hand tools but, no power tools.
Great job, love that you made your own belts. Of course the fact that the combination of traffic and chickens in the background cracks me up.

Also, What a unique design for a drill!

Only one big mistake. The wires were fixed with tape. Use Wago or solder it together.
The mistake was just passing the wires through the hole where the power switch was supposed to go. Looks like it was eliminated before he got it.

Both green belts should be moving in the same direction.....!?
If not, one of them should be disconnected.
That rubber band stuff is fantastic. What is it ???
nice work
That thing was so filthy and corroded! Good job!

why did you cross over one of the green bans? if you did that one band would go clock wise and the other anti clock wise?
Bonjour,
Merci pour vos partages; par contre quel produit vous utilisez comme enduit à 14:18 s'ils vous plait?
21:40 why is removed the ball bearing´s seal ?
потому что idiot
