My 4a 5g overheats when I'm on Zoom. It only started happening after upgrading to Android 12 beta, I am hoping this stops after upgrading to the final version
Hopefully Google becomes aware of this and issues a fix asap. Good on the community for bringing it to light though!
How do they issue a fix to a Hardware problem?

I've had my 5a since Wednesday and this is bad. Mine starts overheating after playing Pokémon Go outside for 20 minutes. (And it's only just over 80° in Texas) Even in the shade it does this. While the camera doesn't shut down, it gives me a warning that either the flash is turned off or video quality may be worse. (And at 1080p 30fps) Another problem I noticed is my display has a green tint in low brightness (Especially with night light on) but hardly noticeable with normal lighting.
Meanwhile Google is telling me this is normal. I now have video of me playing the game and 20 minutes later these errors show up. I'll be showing this to them in hopes for an exchange.
I do like the phone provided it doesn't overheat. It actually fixes a few issues I had with the base Pixel 5 like actual dual speakers, bigger battery, and a headphone jack.
Mine might be a dud, but I'm very concerned of Google's initial response to this. I wish this was available in an actual store instead of Google's. This way it would be Best Buy's or Amazon's problem, and enough defects resulting in refunds will have the phone pulled and force Google to actually address this.
My theory of why the issues happening with 4K 60 is two reasons one the camera sensor itself was designed for only 4K 30 and it's being forced into 60 my other idea is there is no or little thermal distributing making the heat stay in one spot.
To me it’s a minor issue, but I don’t fault anyone for sharing the information about it.

I agree, I have a Pixel 4a and Pixel 5. And both are overheating everytime with battery drain are crazy...
So I have also the same problem with 4k 60FPS shutdown recording when it's overheating about 5min that's insane. I'm so sad to not keeping my both Pixel's Phones, and I switch in iPhone 12 Mini now. I'm so sad because the photo functions are so good but a hot phone in IDLE in my pocket that's not possible for me
Yes, the Pixel 4a 4G overheats very easily, specially when taking videos.
This is the result of faulty Quality Control and ZERO field testing, the Google 2 was a great phone the 4a5g is JUNK.
I intentionally to record 4k 60fps with my 4a 4G over 30 minutes, generally it look like google solve the problem. Currently I have no overheating issue on video recording, just a little bit warming near on top side of fingerprint. BUT one of my curious thing was, Google make my video separately with 10:33 minutes and 19:46 minutes. I totally have no idea what is going on.

My Pixel 4xl overheated from watching UA-cam outdoors, it got so hot it turned off mobile data, lowered to screen brightness and the performance got really really laggy because of throttling. My Pixel 3xl overheats indoors watching UA-cam and doing other basic things browsing the web, not to the same extent as my Pixel 4xl but the performance does become really laggy. IMO 5g might have made it worse but it has been happening long before that and i basically don't take videos at all with my phones.
My brand new pixel 4a overheated fresh out the box after setup. Had to factor reset and start over. It did get hot many times and once overheated from just checking out my apps and settings. But other times I could game and watch movies no problem.
My 4a 5g overheats all the time just on video chats Instagram Snapchat no matter what it is
@@Johnny-yw3sr man I just got a pixel 4a 5g yesterday I haven't even got any games on it till now and don't even intend to . But bruhhh on normal usage it gets pretty hot I'd say.

A year later, it's still happening
My pixel 5 has been overheating for several months with 4k 60fps video recording, gps, mobile hotspot. The hardware can't sustain these activities. No update has fixed it so far.
My 6 pro overheats and gives the heat warning if taking pictures or videos outside for a while. Where I live it's hot and temperatures in the 90s and 100s are normal. Inside or at night it's ok and just gets warm. This is a disappointment because my Pixel 2 never got hot.

Its not because of software, so a software update can only slightly reduce it.

Yes im facing. I brought pixal 4a flipkart big million day before 5 days. It's over heating when I watch UA-cam video heat Start within 5minutes . Then I replacement then I got return new pixal 4a. It's also have a over heat issue

I find it ridiculous to want to record in 4k on a phone.
Nevertheless, it is right to have to respect the specifications sold to the buyer.
I think the Processor is also not capable of running an updated OS and shooting at 4k 60 at the same time. It is really old.
So this where we get to see that software ain't everything.
How many people do you think shoot 4k 60 compared to 1080p at 60...... And yes the processor is 100% capable of running an updated OS I don't know where you got that from.

My 4a 5G won't give me more than 3mins. Even at 1080p shooting at 30fps it still heats up and stops recording and the scariest thing happened today....

I don't understand why google forum doesn't have this problem registered and why we are not given the update to fix it.
Google is sucking the life out of their old camera sensors, so the software is likely to be to aggressive and make the phone in such a small body overheat too. You however didn't state the ambient temperature you tested your pixel models under?

I live in an area where the summer daytime temp is around 32-35 degree C. Once I was taking pics via a 3rd party app for office work(geo-tagging), and man the phone heated up so bad that it ended up destroying my sim card. I had to get a new sim.
Pixels heat up even in light usage but man that sim card incident really crossed the limit. I threw away the phone. Will never buy a Pixel again.
My Pixel 4a 5G has never overheated with my use. But walking outdoors in the sun will throttle it.
The 765G is not built for performance or resilience.

bruh my 4a 5g battery literally only have a capacity of 84 degrees. This phone is not built for Florida lmfao
I doubt that it is really a software issue. It is related to close together chips being asked to do too much because that way they would generate too much heat. The fix would be in software by asking the phone to do less. However, it may not be possible to get 4K 60fps without using all of that power.

For me it overheats when making video calls, don't do video recording but bring away from family, video calling is important and it's very frustrating when 10-15 min in the call it shuts off the internet do to overheating. Pixel is not the same as it was before, time to move on to competitors.

My brand new pixel 4a 4g overheated during initial setup and i had to factory reset cuz it was heating up bad. Then 2 days later noticed a defect crack in top right corner so I returned it. Now I'm looking at the 5a. But sounds like the pixels run hot? Still a very nice speedy phone.
My 4a 5G overheats when I use the camera but also when I use GPS. The battery life is total crap. I will not be purchasing another Pixel. It's my 2nd one and also my last.

We've had these phones for 3 weeks, all we do is record at 1080p 60 frames per second and the videos are freaking amazing! You don't need the 4K 60 on your phone!

My 4a 5G overheats every other day. Not that I'm recording any videos - but I'm playing Pokemon and Ingress quite a lot. Unless Google does not fix this issue I'll never buy a Pixel again.

Alot of phones overheat especially in gaming they could probably send out a software patch for it
It's a minor issue that only affects 4K 60fps video and seriously if you need 4K 60fps then get a professional camera rather than a smartphone.

A phone overheating to the point where it powers off is not a "minor" issue. That's pretty damn major.

I just find this issue sometimes that shouldn’t be as important. It’s a mid range smartphone under $500 dollars. It would be a serious issue if it was a phone over $1000 dollars.

Many people minimally use the camera without any personal effort. Just point and shoot. The camera comparisons are only academic. Most of the new age phones, including Chinese, provide decent quality for such use.

Same! Wife and I both have them. We definitely notice they get a lil warm but have never experienced a overheating issue. We only record in 1080p 60fps and it's f****in amazing! We love these phones. She makes vids for TikTok and she loves the hell out of this phone.

It's annoying but I would let it discourage you from a purchase. Unless of course you are wanting to record 4K60FPS on Day 1. Otherwise, I'm sure this is an issue Google will patch up with an update.

@@vildrox019 Not at all. Even if you did, 30fps still works fine for me and I'm sure within a month Google will push out an update to fix it.

Pixel cameras are fantastic, I have a Pixel 4a and it's great! I never record 4k video, use 1080p because I'm not a professional film maker.
