    After all your effort you are left with great looking firewood. Keep it up Brandon👍👍

      This is true Jeremiah. Hopefully I’ve got the worst of it behind me 🤞🏻 I appreciate ya 👍🏻

    I ran into that with oak a week ago. It’s really aggravating. It’s hard to justify the time splitting/separating/ and cleaning up the waste of wood like that. I’m covered up with wood so I usually discard it.
    Enjoyed it Brandon!
    Another goodin!!

      It’d be different if it was bigger, trunk wood. But it’s just not worth it to me either in this smaller stuff. Anymore of it is going in the fire 🔥 😅
      I appreciate ya, and have a good weekend Jacob!

    I agree with your math, i wouldn’t want to sell that stuff either so I’d be splitting them in larger pieces and using them for myself. Hopefully only a few pieces here and there, looks like you’ve got a lot of nice rounds. Keep up the good work, see ya on the next one!

      I appreciate it. I think worst case I’ll make a lot of barkless oak or bundled wood out of the rounds that are bad. It might slow me down a bit with this batch, but I’ll make the best out of it. Take care Genin.

    Hope the Red Oak turns out better. Good video.

      Me too Joe. If not, I’ll widdle off the bad edges and save the center chunks for some barkless smoker wood or bundled wood 👌🏻

    White and water oak will get punky. What I do for those is, on the splitter, I shave off the punk stuff till I am left with 6x6 or some like that is squared. This process splits nice and clean for bundles or stacks.

    That stinks to see the edges all punky . The tree must have been dead standing . I see that a lot because we mostly get tree service wood a there usually taking down bad trees . You are correct free ain’t really free after you figure your time and effort to go get it an turn it into a salable product . I like your light set up so you can split after dark .

      Yea, I was hoping that most of this wood was in good shape. But it’s to be expected I guess. Going to try and salvage all I can, but not go to great lengths to save all of it. The lights are great and really give me a little more time at the end of the day to split 👌🏻

    Them punky edges would bother me on a 20" whereas I could get a half dozen or more good barkless split out of it. That much clean up to get a couple, three good splits hardly makes it worthwhile. If you got enough of it and a market for it, you might quarter it (leave it chunky) and sell or trade it as boiler wood. I been work some elm that was standing dead that punky on one side of the log, I'm quartering it up for a friend's boiler just so I can get rid of it. Take care my friend.

      You’re absolutely right Bob. I think if the red oak starts going south I’ll just take the bigger pieces and utilize the centers for bark less smoker wood or bundled wood and just trash the rest. Not going to spend a lot of time or energy trying to save a few sticks. Just not very sensible

    Definitely still good firewood for you but I wouldn't sell it either. Hopefully the red oak is in a little better shape for ya.

      Thanks Tony. I’ll keep a lot of it for personal use, but just don’t want to sell it and get that bad reputation. Just not worth it in the long run! Have a good week 👌🏻

    Hey Brandon, have you thought of raising your table with the rounds on and pushing the splitter closer, that way you could take right from the table to split, would not have to worry about them falling on the motor, ya got to now when it’s not worth the effort 👍🚜🪵🔥🏰🇨🇦🇱🇷

      I have thought about it raising it. I’m going to get some fill work done and see where the bed of my dump truck ends up height wise and go from there. The gas tank took a direct hit in that one round 😬

    Most of us don’t need more burning wood for ourselves. The extra clean up of the punky stuff sucks. Decisions, decisions . It’s not hard to find more boiler wood that always sells for less. I hate making those decisions. Split into the red oak and if you run into the same problem. Well decision time. I hope you’ll find some good wood in the logs you cut. Otherwise split it big and sell as boiler wood. Unfortunately you have a lot of time and effort into it. Take care my friend.

    • @McKameyFarms
      @McKameyFarms  6 місяців тому

      It’s really tough Al. Like you said, I’ve got plenty of wood to burn for myself, but this stuff is just not the quality I’m looking to sell! And unfortunately here in my region, there’s not many people with boilers. Mainly fireplaces or wood stoves. At best I could maybe get $30 a face cord out of it? Just not worth the effort I don’t think
      Take care Al, and have a great week

    Good for a boiler and good for you but messy.

      @McKameyFarms  6 місяців тому

      Yes sir! I wish I knew more folks around my area with boilers . I’m thinking if I run into more, I’ll just cut the pinky edges off and trash them and use the good center wood for barkless smoker wood or bundled grade wood. 👌🏻

    Sure it was just the 1 tree.

      I am hoping so 🤞🏻 if not, I’ll salvage what I can, but not got to great lengths to save minimal amounts of wood
