    This "desperate need to hide and change the body you were given" is one of the LOUDEST issues in society right now, from gender ideology to bbl's. Bravo to Brett for her two cents on this trend 👏🏼

    • @omnium_gatherum
      @omnium_gatherum 5 місяців тому +13

      @@adryncharn1910 Personally I think society creates these problems for itself by following trends regardless of the logic. I think whoever pushes the "standards" behind the latest trends in beauty, gender, etc. are the ones to blame, and we're to blame for going along with it. So, addressing that would address the root cause.
      We end up developing an identity crisis that wouldn't have otherwise existed, and then become so desperate to fit into that desired identity that changing ourselves actually brings relief. It's not healthy at all

    • @BadMannerKorea
      @BadMannerKorea 5 місяців тому

      Changing the body you were given is a completely different topic than someone getting a BBL. Minimal makeup, shaving, wearing clothes, cutting hair, anything you do is changing your body, yet by your statement you’re lumping everything together and the extremes.

    • @omnium_gatherum
      @omnium_gatherum 5 місяців тому +4

      @@BadMannerKorea it's kind of self explanatory. She didn't say "changing your hair, look," etc. ..Getting a BBL is *literally* changing your body, like think about it...
      Ironically, you're the one lumping everything together

    • @BadMannerKorea
      @BadMannerKorea 5 місяців тому

      @@omnium_gatherum If it was self explanatory people wouldn't be confusing extremes in with general methods of fighting aging. Even you confused them, where as I pointed out, you lumped in BBL's and changing the body. Almost everything you do is changing the body. Yet there's other people who are saying they want to go back to "natural aging" and basically give up the fight, aka aging poorly, a mere rationalization of laziness and apathy. I'm making a distinction between an extreme like BBL's and aging gracefully, which the latter indeed takes effort and is a worthwhile goal.

      Well... Natural beauty is a thing, but everyone is unique.
      If there are certain things about you that makes you distinctly unattractive, if there are safe ways to fix it cosmetically while securing your identity and natural outlook, whats bad about it.
      The only outcome that it will bring is a stronger mental strength, more attractive body and a greater chance at finding a more attractive partner.
      For example; f a girl with below average sized breasts get an implant for it to look average or a bit above average, when performed it will not lead to an unnatural state. however being extreme with such procedures, for reference like Kim K, it will lead to a rather unnatural appearance. All though with moderation it would appear natural, while improving the mental strength of the patient and their issues with insecurity
      While I do not accept the Idea of extreme cosmetic surgeries like that of the kardashians and many modern influencers, I do believe there is a multitude of surgical options for certian people that will improve their quality of life by a large amount.

    • @wiredreflexes1930
      @wiredreflexes1930 5 місяців тому

      @@firstconsul001 The problem with that, is you're putting a quick band-aid over a deep emotional wound. From a purely psychiatric perspective, you'd be better off in the long run to take the time to work through your problems mentally and balance your self image. It creates a more stable mindset. Take it from some one who didn't get there till their late twenties. It may take longer, but it doesn't leave the psychological equivalent of mold under the the new coat of paint. Many issues like this can be 'solved' short term and they fester into deep seated insecurities in later life when you realize people don't live you for you. They love you for the thing you changed yourself into. Plus most of these cosmetic surgeries have downsides later in life that ruin your formative years. It's all fun till you start falling apart past forty with another forty years to go. Only the rich can afford the upkeep needed to continue this lifestyle all the way to the grave. It also puts a massive financial burden on yourself. Better to spend the money on things that help you to live a sustainable live long-term.

      When my daughter was a preteen, and wanting to start with makeup, I told her that makeup is fun. But it is important to be comfortable with her natural beauty. In her teens & early 20s, she'll be in the peak of her beauty. So, especially in her teens & 20s, she need to be comfortable with her natural beauty.
      She was allowed lip gloss & nail polish until, maybe, 14, when she added mascara. But the mascara is just to dress up. Now atv15, she's asked to add more eye makeup, but just to dress up.

I make sure I drink water, I wash my face every night. I use moisturizer and a vitamin c serum. Another mom made fun of me, saying I did too much and insinuating that I was vain. That same mom was in the hospital ER a month later because her fillers were infected. She never mentioned she had fillers when we talked. She was all natural as far as she was concerned. On the other hand she praised me on my real beauty "assets", those that I did have and do have. It was hard core truth, no sugar coating, she meant well, she loved me - don't get me wrong, it wasn't like putting me down or something. I grew up understanding that I'm not a natural beauty and never will be, and this is not a tragedy. I concentrated on my health rather than beauty, and on my family, friends and career. It bore good fruit. So I get it, I really do when girls and yound women want to "rectify" a little bit of this and a little bit of that. If I was very young I would certainly go for botox, fillers you name it. It is just that I'm old enough to know better and I worked on myself a lot.

I rarely wear makeup and even when I do, it’s minimal and natural looking so that it’s not shocking to anyone seeing me with/without it. I have skin issues. I had very thick brows that are now thinning due to health issues. I don’t meet society’s beauty standards but my husband is always the first to say that I’m beautiful and perfect and has helped me deal with my self-image a lot. He’s watched me change from the young 20 year old to the 33 year old mother. I never would have had work done anyway but my self esteem wouldn’t be as bolstered if not for him and I am so thankful for his constant reminders that I am naturally beautiful and any signs of aging are a gift. I am the same age as Brett. I started wearing makeup at 13 and stopped wearing it entirely at 20.
    The ammount of comments I get from other girls, younger and older, who are genuinley concerned that I don't want to wear it, even for "nice dinners" and "when photos will be taken" is alarming. I haven't suddenly become unfeminine, I'm not lacking all care for getting ready and presenting myself, I'm not entirely without self pride, I just stopped wearing makeup I didn't enjoy wearing. If you enjoy wearning makeup because it's a fun process for you, that's great. If you are one of those incredibly talented people who can paint literal minature artwork on their eyelids, credit where credit due. But makeup, and anything else cosmetic beyond basic and proper hygiene, is not an inherant need.
    Thank you Brett ❤

    Society has got so incredibly shallow. I was chatting to this young guy on Instagram. Nothing in it at all. I’m literally old enough to be his mum. He’s the same age as my oldest nephew 21 and he told me no young girl will chat to him because everybody tells him how ugly he is . one of the first things he said to me was do you think I’m ugly and honest to God it broke my heart Because I never went round, when I was younger, telling other people they were ugly. It’s such an awful thing to do to someone how it affects their entire life. This young lad who reminded me of my nephew seemed so incredibly downtrodden and broken.

    Hey, I’m a millennial, 31, and I have decided I want to age gracefully, so I am allowed my hair to come in white and not hide it, so far I have three beautiful hairs and can’t wait until I have more, I also take care of my skin and diet, nothing extraordinary, I have been through a very expensive skincare phase, now I realize simple is more than sufficient, mostly beef tallow and castor oil. Legit. I want to embrace my beauty at every age and stage! Let’s go back to natural beauty! Pre mask era I wore a full face of makeup every day, now, not so much. I wear makeup a few times a year now, I just bought some sheer foundation drops just for those days I want a slight touch of something to even out my skin tone. Let’s start a whole aging gracefully, rather than anti-aging, movement! Hoorah!

      Nah, I'll fight against aging. I workout, live a reasonably healthy lifestyle, and I also get minimal work done like broadband light and Botox on my forehead and my 11's. In fact, I've been increasing my fight against aging, and increasing my stage 2 cardio and eating more vegetables. You think the physical and the aesthetic are different realms, but they're actually related. Those that look better tend to actually be heathier, and David Sinclair, a world researcher on aging, has spoken about it. Now I'm not saying to go out and get BBL's and get aggressive lip filler, because that's fake natural beauty. But you should age gracefully and you should fight against it.

    Hey, I'm 19 and I think smile lines, wrinkles, scars, under eye bags are beautiful. They show that you have lived a very happy healthy life where you worked hard. I have acne scars and "big" pores and I have never thought of getting anything done to my face because I've accepted that this is the way my face looks and the scars are what makes it unique and 'mine'. As much as I think that we humans should be able to do whatever we want to our appearances to make ourselves happy, I also think that these unrealistic standards of tight skin, no scars, small nose, and big lips are totally subjective and no one should ever feel that they need to have them to feel beautiful. We are all pretty by our own standards, whether it be acne scars, wrinkles, a big nose, or smaller lips, those features are what makes us ourselves, and accepting and owning them makes us even more beautiful
    P.s congratulations on your engagement!

My younger sibling and young friends are getting Botox and freaking out and it’s shocking. Im finally at the place where I’m starting to accept getting older. I want to age gracefully and I don’t want to pump toxic chemicals into my body in order to stay “youthful.” I spend time at the nursing home and just listen to my 96 year old mentor Charlotte teach me about history, God, and her life. And I find her to be one of the most beautiful people I have ever met. She has inspired me to care less about looking old and more about my loved ones, God, and making the most of the time I have. I now see my eye wrinkles as a prize because not everyone gets the chance to age. I would be so lucky to get to grow as old and wise as Charlotte.❤

      We're the same age, and I've never understood why people hate the idea of getting older. People are terrified of having wrinkles and scars, but to me, they're reminders of laughter, reminders of the silly things we did as kids, and reminders that tragic things can happen to us, BUT WE SURVIVED. Our scars and wrinkles and imperfections tell the stories of our lives - they tell of how we've lived.
      I understand people who occasionally wear makeup to enhance their natural features, and I understand getting botox to prevent headaches and medical issues, but I wish people wouldn't try to hide themselves behind it all.

    I love this video so much! It is very needed in our world today. I am 37 years old and have sworn to never do anything unatural to myself. It took me years of insecurities and low self esteem to get to the point where I am happy to just be me, thanks to a world that is constantly telling girls that they need to be “perfect”. It’s scary that girls are having so much work done at such a young age… have none of them seen what the older celebrities look like now after so many years of work? They are SCARY! It’s not a good look. I have learned to embrace my natural aging, even down to vowing never to dye my hair (the thought of having to “touch up my grays” and re-die it constantly for the next 40 years is NOT appealing to me!) and have even come to like the silvery sparkles in my dark hair. I hope more and more young women will see your video (and the positive ones on Tik Tok) and change their minds about destroying their beautiful bodies this way.

    Adored this video. I have never been a daily makeup user; though recently I started wearing basic CC cream and a lip color on Sundays, and every once in a while on a random day just for fun. I live in Korea, and it can sometimes be a bit intimidating to be the only makeup-free late-twenties woman in sight (especially with some scarring from pimples clear on my face), but I’ve always preferred the convenience of being makeup-free (such a time saver) and it makes the times when I do wear makeup more fun and special.
    My favorite K-drama called My ID is Gangnam Beauty touches on some of these topics regarding plastic surgery; while I would not be surprised if some (most?) of the actors have gotten some sort of cosmetic surgery, and so watching a story that challenges the importance of physical beauty as opposed to inner beauty may not deliver quite the same impact when all the actors look so beautiful, the story was still really refreshing.

    The best thing I can say about cosmetic surgery is that when you are are older and your parents pass away, you will want your dad's forehead wrinkles and your mother's nose. Every single thing that you feel insecure about, you will want it when you grow into your features. It is a permanent testament to where you came from and your genetic history. When my daughter was a preteen, she asked to wear makeup. I told her make-up is fun, but it is very important to be comfortable with your natural beauty. I told her we'd add makeup in stages. At first, she was allowed nail polish & lip gloss. Then she added mascara, but not day-to-day only When she dressed nice.
      At 14, she went to winter formal & wanted fake eye lashes. My husband & I were honest about our opinion--they look stupid. But I let her have modest ones, for just the formal, not normal dressing up.

    I love this, I'm 22 and I stopped wearing makeup completely over a year ago. It's been so mentally freeing, not to mention it saves hours of my life every week and hundreds of dollars per year. At first I was nervous that executives wouldn't take me seriously at work, guys wouldn't find me attractive, etc., but it's really had the opposite effect. I don't think I'll ever go back to wearing makeup ever again, even for my wedding (and I wouldn't dream about getting work done). I am in my late 20s and I saw how self esteem plummeted for women across the board with the use of Instagram and other social media platforms. I also have to admit this is kind of the fault of its users too. I am guilty of falling into the trap myself. I think social media is dangerous because of how it makes everyone else seem so much prettier or happier than you and it creates an overall lack then here comes Shapewear and fillers to the rescue to make you exactly what you are not. It’s really sad. I am glad I got to enjoy a childhood without these platforms shoved in my face but I do feel like a victim to them because of their prominence in my teens and early 20s. In order to love yourself, discipline is a huge factor! I had to be disciplined enough to not look at certain things and not feed into the negative thought loops about myself. None of it is really about appearances but internal lack and the void we all face. I get that some people just don’t want wrinkles and just want whiter teeth but I think that our insecurities are making a lot of people wealthy. Idk. I just think we all need to do some soul searching. Sending love to you all.

Now that I am home and focused on my husband and kids I hardly wear any makeup anymore. I save it for "special occasions," and I don't remember the last time I colored my hair. Honestly I needed this episode. I've looked at all of these influences with work done and wanted it. Just yesterday I was telling my husband I want a boob reduction and veneers after we were done having kids. I have never wanted to dye my hair, but this past week I've thought about. I've wanted my lashes lifted and dyed, and I wanted injections under my eyes so they wouldn't be so dark. I am a very young mother, I won't say how young because I'm tired of being chastised for it, but for the first time since having my baby I looked in the mirror and felt beautiful. You reminded me that my body in its natural state is a gift. My engorged, saggy boobs, my under eye bags, my stomach and thighs full of stretch marks, my greasy messy hair, and all of the other flaws I've been stressing over, are all because of the most precious thing that has happened to me. I feel like a beautiful mother whose body is worth much more than just looks. I'm reminded of how my body has given me a beautiful life and a beautiful baby. Thank you for giving me a reality check, Brett. God knew I needed to hear this right now.😊

    I am the same age as Brett. I stopped wearing makeup at 20, and the ammount of comments I get from other girls, younger and older, who are genuinley concerned that I don't want to wear it, even for "nice dinners" and "when photos will be taken" is alarming. I haven't suddenly become unfeminine, I'm not lacking all care for getting ready and presenting myself, I'm not entirely without self pride, I just stopped wearing makeup I didn't enjoy wearing. For 7 years I wore it simply because it felt like a basic necessity. If you enjoy wearning makeup because it's a fun process for you, that's great. I really resonated with that last statement about getting your makeup done and not feeling like yourself. I got mine done for my Highschool graduation party and told the makeup artist that I wanted the makeup to consist of colors that suited my skintone and enhanced my natural beauty. I wanted to use the experience of getting my makeup done professionally to my advantage and incorporate the tips and tricks I would learn into my makeup routine. Instead, I got unflattering makeup that didn’t make me feel like myself, let alone feel pretty. Everyone told me I looked pretty, but I didn’t feel pretty. It was the typical brown girl makeup style with the same colors and brows, which didn’t suit me, as I have a very young looking face (I look to be anywhere from 12-16, with 16 being when I wear makeup lol). I felt so much prettier the next day, despite the fact that I broke out in hives all over my face and neck (seriously, I’m already brown, I don’t know why she put foundation on my neck) and my sensitive skin was so agitated due to her unsanitary practices. I put on my “everyday” natural makeup and felt prettier than I did the day before.
    I don’t think makeup is a bad thing, it boosts confidence (and hides my lack of sleep sometimes lol), but I think it is misused by a lot of women, thus actually causing their confidence to dwindle as they hide behind their full face.

      100% I had social media from 12-19, I was hyper obsessed with my appearance, anti-aging and wearing full face (every item of makeup I could have I would even if it didn't seem like I needed it, eyeshadow primer, brow tint etc) of makeup (while being so scared of my partner seeing me without makeup that I would wear makeup to bed). I think the problem is that this is all manufactured, creating insecurities and inferiority complexes, constantly comparing yourself to what is promoted on social media, where these people are surgically altered or photoshopped, then you feel bad for not already looking like that without the surgery or photoshop. People get stuck where the algorithm promotes that over and over and you lose touch on reality. I know this is going to sound dumb but I didn't even realize it until after I cut out social media, just randomly looking around while waiting in line at a pharmacy, but no one looks like a supermodel. Everyone just looks normal, people are just living their lives. No one looks like these hypersexualized perfect instagram models, no one cares that I don't look like an instagram model, my partner never told me I had to look that way, no one around me has ever told me I had to look that way, no one has ever told me I am less than for not looking that way, I don't need surgery, I don't need all of this makeup... an algorithm promoted manufactured/surgical or digital altered beauty, it's constantly being promoted, if it's put in front of your face all of the time, you are going to think it's real, you are going to compare, creating a manufactured inferiority complex or insecurity. Comparing your butt to photoshop (where the creator admitted to photoshop), comparing your boobs to implants, thinking you need a hairline surgery, expensive skincare routines and facials, a special straw that prevents wrinkles... when all of it keeps you in a toxic cycle where you think you aren't or never will be good enough. Getting plastic surgery is fine, if its for one or two things you genuinely are insecure about, but it shouldn't be because you are comparing yourself to a unrealistic representation (i'm not going to call it a standard, because really, who other than the algorithm or social media is asking you to look like an unrealistic model who has plastic surgery, your friends and family probably aren't) promoted by an algorithm.

      Natural beauty gets confused with treating yourself poorly. You don't wear sunscreen for 10 years and you end up with premature wrinkles, is that natural? Yeah, and plenty of people say "oh I'm aging gracefully" or some such nonsense, but imagine if you applied sunscreen every day, you'd not only look better but you'd have reduced your chances of cancers, particularly decades in the future. David Sinclair, a world researcher in aging at Harvard, has spoken about how the aesthetic is related to how healthy you are. People who look good for their age tend to actually be healthier. Don't be apathetic to aging, you should aggressively fight against it, and those that workout and live a healthy lifestyle, look better and are generally healthier.

Not to mention the physical stress you're inflicting on your body by getting these unnecessary, unnatural, and toxic procedures that 99% of the time aren't needed. I’m 32 years old and I’m so grateful that I grew up in a time when cell phones were just beginning to come out when I was in high school. The only people I compared myself where girls in my class. I cannot imagine seeing all these images all the time, no wonder young women these days struggle so much with self-esteem

    The issue is too much time online.
    I am 33, no work done, I have no fear of being out in the world makeup free- I no longer tame my eyebrows, and guess what? I feel better in my skin now as I did when I was in my early 20's and obsessed with the way the world viewed me, insecure about who I even was at that age. And guess what? I'm treated normally by the world, I still feel like I could attract the men I'd want to if I was single, although I'm happily with the same man I was with since i was 19, and guess what? He's still as attracted to me now as he was as my young youthful self. Aging is a privilege, lines are normal, I didn't grow up looking at older women in my life in disgust, so why suddenly are these young women scared looking like someone who's only 28..... which is still so incredibly young.... what a warped view these young girls have, it is so, so sad.
    What a toxic environment social media is and makes women feel. Thankful to be raising a daughter, without the inward hate of my outer appearance, because I look at her, and see the perfection that she is, and it would literally break my heart if she wanted to change anything about herself.

  • @lillywu5854

    35 here and have had no work done outwardly but have worked hard on myself inwardly the past 20 years. The advantage of working inward instead of outward is you build actual confidence that you can never lose as you age. Those that get so much work done on their appearance is signaling to themselves and the world that they care deeply about what others think about them, even on a superficial level. I might not be the prettiest bird, but I am the freest 😊❤️.

      It also means they think that is all they have to offer the world. I have scars from stupid behavior and chickenpox, stretch marks that I’ve had since I was 2 (malnourished), and marks from inoculation and surgery. Doesn’t change what I can do, how well I can think, or how I can be of service.

  • @Myviewingtime07

    I’m 36, and I have no desire to change anything about myself in that way. My skin is clear, and I keep it moisturized every day. It’s crazy how these people think that all these cosmetic surgeries and procedures are going to stop them from aging. After a while these things start to not look good, and you have to keep getting them done. It also can cause a lot of damage and problems with your body .

      The reason there is so much pressure is the same reason there is pressure to support abortion and gender-reassignment surgeries: it’s a huge money making industry. Regardless supporting these “causes”, everyone overlooks that there is a shitload of money in those industries, so don’t get pressured into doing something you weren’t even thinking about before.

    I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE ELSE FEELS THIS WAY ABOUT MAKEUP! I am TERRIFIED of having the wedding makeup discussion, because I want to do my own too and I know certain members of my family are not going to be stoked. I've started purposely going bare-faced whenever I start to feel bad about my appearance, literally just to prove to myself that I don't need makeup, no one needs makeup. The whole cosmetics industry is really so misogynistic, and women just KEEP PAYING FOR THIS STUFF! LET'S PLEASE STOP!

      Bruh are you American? Many women do their own make up lol, maybe not in US it seems. Some don’t even wear make up, only BB cream maybe. Not everyone loves heavy make up. Some want a bare face during wedding, so you can be pure and yourself and not fake

      PLEASE DO! I had my wedding makeup professionally done and did not feel/look like myself. (And it’s insanely expensive just to feel uncomfortable) You could still hire the makeup team for your family members who want it, and forgo it yourself. I relayed the prices to my wedding party, some people had it done, some didn’t. But they had the option, if they wanted it. I just wish I ended up not having it done myself. Go with your gut! Don’t let anyone shame/get into your head about it. ♥️

      This was me. I got married in 2022 at age 22. I had tried doing full face of makeup with contouring and everything, but ultimately decided it was way too much and I wasn't myself. I wore a tad bit of concealer on acne or red spots, some lipstick, tiny bit of natural eyeshadow, and mascara on curled eyelashes. I felt beautiful and didn't have to worry about what happened to all my makeup throughout the day.

    Brett, I absolutely understand your desire to do your own makeup for your wedding!
    I got married a year ago and did my own makeup for the exact same reason, and it was a great decision! My sister, with good intentions of course, suggested possibly getting a fake tan lol but I did not follow that advice and now, when I look at our wedding photos and see my pale skin and natural appearance, I absolutely LOVE the photos and the fact that they represent what I really look like! Best of luck with your wedding planning!

    I like to tune in to various reporting arenas to see what is going on with different groups, you did a nice job of presenting. I had no idea they were so conned. They'll get over it eventually, probably with needing therapeutic support. Age and experience will teach them. I will say, they are very fortunate to have so many advantages other generations did not have.

    I’m 34 and can’t fathom getting anything done to my face and I almost never wear makeup. 10/10 recommended doing your own hair & makeup for your wedding. I did mine myself and I’m so glad because I felt like myself & can look fondly on the pictures because I was actually present during them instead of concerned about how I looked. The only time I’ve had my hair/makeup done and felt like myself was for maternity photos and I loved that makeup artist / stylist for asking what I normally do and working within that.

    I know it’s different for women and I’m likely in the minority (I know my fiancé is terrified of getting older) but as a guy I love growing older. There’s a romantic element to it. Your face, every wrinkle is representative of the reactions, experiences and presentations you have made to world. Every grey hair a monument to the fortune of your health to have lived so long. Every blemish, an element that is unique to you. The smile lines to show how much you’ve laughed. The wrinkles above your brow to show the work you’ve undertaken or the moments of sheer astonishment. Sure there may be some unsightly glaring objects that may be considered for medical adjustment (like a large mole for example) that we may have removed. But even this and the other elements that naturally accompany us in life, is a testament to the story you live. There’s an authenticity that is alluring. I may be stupid or foolish to think of this in such a way, but I can’t help but be convinced by it and see all of my changes and my future wife’s changes as something beautiful.

      Amen!! I love this. I’m married with a son and I remember being pregnant and being so terrified by how my body would be “ruined” after birth- but I can honestly say I’m more confident now (and more motivated to take care of myself so I can stay healthy for my family God willing) than I have ever been. I mean every little stretch mark shows that I carried and grew a literal life. And I have some new eye wrinkles that showed how much I’ve smiled. It’s such a blessing honestly. Especially when you spend time with wonderful older people and realize their wisdom.. I’m never looking at them like “ew they have wrinkles- I hope I don’t look like that”- I’m looking at them in absolute awe of their wisdom and experience and honestly thinking they’re the most beautiful person in this world!!

    When I was 21 (When I first grew my beard out), I had people asking me if I was 30. Now that I am 30 and started shaping my beard, I have people asking me if I'm under 25. I honestly don't know whether to feel good about that or not 🤣🤣🤣
