If you can find an RTX A200 for $200 that would be a better option, But it looks like most are over priced right now.
This is what I’d did. Rtx a2000, 32 gigs of ram, i7-7700, hp 800 sff 3, found a larger power supply too.
Currently runs destiny 2 on the highest settings.
got mine for $400 and thought that was a good deal
I have a Ryzen 3100x (from an FX 6300 processor) and an old 1060 (up from a 750ti)
If I get anything, it will probably be either an A2000 or a 4060 that’s undervolted, along with either a 5800X3D, or 5950X both at 50 watts
could go the route of a bios mod on this board and add in a Qtj1 or Qtj0 for 100, make it an 8core16thread
@@danosdotnl They aren't for video editing. They are for CUDA and AI projects. Besides Gaming.
I’d build that for my 10 year old I think that would be a great start into pc gaming for him
Roblox, fortnite, minecraft. this is perfect forthat kind of setup for sure
my stepson plays fortnite on a 5050 sff with a 7500 and a 1030, and hes happy with it
The Sparkle A380 LP fits in that case with no mods. It isn't as fast, but if you're the kind of person that doesn't want to cut the metal to make the 3050 fit it might be worth a shot.
I would just avoid the Optiplex SFF systems since the x16 slot is right next to the power supply. Really, the ideal solution in these older SFF systems is to get the HP Z240 for 6th and 7th Generation or the Z2 G4 for the 8th or 9th Generation. Ample room, so no need to cut and the x16 slot is next to the CPU. They also tend to have better power supplies than Lenovo or Dell. If you wanted to use this system, the MSi 3050 6GB might fit without any need to cut.
Yeah. I have two Optiplex units. A 70xx and a 90xx. I don't think that the PSUs could handle this card and I'm not sure if I could get one, or if it would even be worth getting upgraded PSUs.
Yes, as someone who uses an SFF Optiplex, you're very limited due to that slot being right next to the PSU. I don't like it but I also like free sooooo..... 😅 I'd definitely recommend the HP over the Dell if possible for that reason.
are you sure msi will fit? it looks the same
@@lisafan6365 I'm not 100% sure. I don't have one of these to test it in. It's not a lot shorter, but the Gigabyte model is 181mm long where the MSi is 174mm long. If you can find one, the Zotac would definitely fit at 161mm long.
@@Zaxbox Yeah... it depends on the CPU. With an older quad core i7, you'd probably be fine. But once you jump into the 8th and 9th Gen, those suckers can pull 80 watts or more when gaming, plus the 70 watts that this consumes, plus whatever the rest of the system is using. I just bought a Precision 3431 SFF for some testing, and the poor thing has an i5 9500 with a 200 watt PSU, and they can come with the 9700 as well. Where the Z2 G4 has a 310 watt unit, and there's a 400 watt unit with PCIe power that you can install.
G4 is redesign model for the HP 800 line. Both the Mini and the SFF get an additional M.2 slot. The G4 is the first Windows 10 only model the G3 is the last supported Windows 7 model. You also get more and better USB ports on the G4. You can also find bare units for under $100. Also anyone wanting to do Windows 11 is going to want the G4. The G3 does have a 2.0 TPM but maybe flashed with 1.2 TPM
Ages ago, thanks to ETA's videos, I picked up a refurbed G1 from Amazon for 300 (I thought Dell's optiplex was ugly so I opted for a similar make from another company). It was upgraded to Win10. I swapped the motherboard to a mid tower case, upped the processor, added hard drives and currently use a RTX A2000 over the years. It's what I'm using now, only issue is Win10 killed the HP USB3 driver.
@@TheRealAlpha2 Yeah I work in IT and we run exclusively HP. You can try using HP Image assistant to get the USB3 working correctly again. I have several SFF and mid tower G1 units and they are still running great but the 4th gen intel processors in them are just getting too slow.
The G4 is now 6 years old so they are going to be rock bottom and everyone is dumping them. You should be able to find an affordable G5/G6 as well but that is only processor upgrade. There is no G7. G8 will be coming up on 3 year mark soon that is another redesign model with Pcie 4, USB 3.2, and the last model to take DDR4 memory.
That is an excellent starter pc for someone wanting to get a feel for gaming.
i want more SFF gaming pc content, its really entertaining
this is wayyyyyy more interesting than the latest and greatest build haha....im running a 5700x with the 4060 solo fan in a k39 v3 5liter build and its the best thing on earth ;) cost me around 1000 canadian dollar :)
i really wish more AIB's leaned in to making low profile 3050's like they did with the rx 6400's. regular form factor doesn't make much sense for GPU's like these, but in an SFF - there's a very solid use case argument for them.
I feel like they are all colluding not to. If they either made more true single slot cards or put the x16 slot higher to make room for more cards they might not sell as many new "gaming" pc
I have a 4790 from 10 years ago and it's still great. Who really wants to play AAA slop anyways..?
Not me. I don't play anything made after 1999
There’s nothing wrong with rocking a 4790, but not everything new is slop.
Seriously.. they are charging $80.00 dollars for sh!t 😂🎉

@@Vhalikuporamee447 Well, I almost finished half life 2. Hows the sequel?
Head's up for everyone... That motherboard(the one with the HP desktop) only supports 35 watts to the PCIE 1x16 slot and not 75 watts as usual.
This. I got the exact same hp desktop as in the video. Couldn't handle my low profile gtx1030 card.
They deliver more than advertised.
I got 1030 working on prodesk 400, also 1050 which should not work on 35w slot, but it works.
And by the way, this is not prodesk, its the elitedesk, there is a huge difference in build quality between prodesks 400,600 and elitedesk 800.

@@rexcatston8412 I'm telling you this is a bad solution for a GPU that expects 75 watts to be delivered to via the PCIE 1x16 slot. This box makes a real good Linux box.
Hello ETA. You should try 8th gen i7
budget builds cause they have aged like wine so far.
Using one of these as home server - elitedesk g4 has two m2 slots for ssd on board and 3 sata ports - so when you stop gaming it can work as cheap nas (9w idle with ssd only)
I have paired i7 7700k with 1080Ti back in 2017. To see that the i7 even limiting the rtx 3050 really shows how demanding game these days on the cpu.
The usage and power consumption looks low in some games. Now I did have 7700k instead of the non K, but it shouldn't be that far apart. Completely stock at 4.2Ghz all core and 70ish watts. 50W and under 70-80% usage seems way too low.
@@napowolf it is clocked at 200Mhz lower. 20W difference seems about right.
For me I would probably go for the Dell Vostro MT desktop with a 8th gen or 9th gen CPU to pair a bit more better with that GPU. I seen a couple go on eBay for under $200.
I LOVE these sff builds! Still running my i7-4790 / GTX 1650 on my HP Elitedesk 800 g1 and it rocks for what it is! I’ve played even Cyberpunk at low settings at around 30fps. If you use something like GeForce Now, this really works well!
Better than over the top builds
I done this same sort of build except with a lenovo 8th gen sff and a 4060 low profile. luckily the model lenovo I got was able to get a 450 watt OEM psu upgrade with the 8pin on it for the gpu.
The 6th and 7th gen i7 are legendary and still work great in 2024.
Yup, still using them today and play 99% of games at 60fps on high. A lot on Ultra depending on your gpu.
love this video, simple and affordable pc
I got my hands on a batch of Dell Optiplex 5050 PCs that my employer was just going to throw out. I took one and threw in an MSI LP RTX 3050 and added some RAM and an M.2. It's only a 7th Gen i5 but I'm going to use it for emulation. So far it seems to be handling everything quite well. Thanks for the inspiration!
Craft yourself a home server with something like casaos. Highly recommend
7700 being old makes my i7 2700 cry.
12 years. Just think, next year it doesn't need a babysitter/can get an e-mail address of its own
Still a rock solid cpu
Pretty cool man! ❤

I have the same specifications as your device, but the processor i7 9700 and gpu 1050 ti 4gb
Will it differ when upgrading to 3050 lp?

My only issue is Windows 11 compatibility with HP G3 800 because of CPU): How has it worked on your PC? Any problems with updates or something?
You can run Windows 11 on unsupported CPU's just fine and you will receive security updates. Keep in mind that there are CPU's going back to 6th Gen on the supported list. They're just choosing not to support the desktop CPU's. The biggest issue is that M$ could cut off the security updates and time they wanted to.
Use windows 10 ltsc
I'm looking at a Lenovo M900 SFF using that same 3050. It only has a 210w power supply. PC part picker is saying I should be running about 250 or higher wattage PSU. Any idea what the odds are that long gaming sessions will cook this build from a PSU failure?
Really nice. I have a elite desk 800 g5 SFF
The original system I built in like 2016 based on a few of these videos has reached the limits of it's potential, a G1 with 24gb of DDR3 ram, i7 4790k (can't overclock) and like 6 hard drives plugged into it with 3 more externally, I went from the gt1030 to a gtx1630 to an RTX A2000. Most advanced game I run is cyberpunk it gets about 40-45 fps. I was considering upgrading to something newer but was thinking I should stop messing with Small form factor. But maybe I should still keep it in mind now. Even grabbing a Ryzen for 200 and keeping the A2000 might be a decent boost.
These are the kinds of videos ive missed that ETA prime used to do more of.
This will also make an amazing budget AI/ML workstation. You can run some small models on it or pytorch.
Can you explain why you put a PCI Express 4.0 x16 graphics card with a cpu that only has pci express 3.0 ?
Dudes and dudettes, recent games above 60 frames per second? and you can also use the machine for media and internet? it's just awesome,
you also need a nice setup of course, monitor, mouse and keyboard, headphones or external audio, but this is just really good,

How this card will be performing paired with a i5-8500 ? On a SFF Dell Optiplex 5060?
I was thinking about doing this with a g4 do I need the l7 or will the 8th i5 be enough
Hi ETA. I desperately need your advice. I bought the Red Magic 9 Pro, but no matter what I try, it refuses to output video via the USB C to USB C route. The problem is not my external monitor or the cable as I have used both successfully with my old ASUS ROG Phone 2. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Love these guys! Save the environment and make gaming more accessible. More gamers=more of a chance for otherwise "dead" games to flourish. People are still playing cs 1.6, so graphics hardly matter when it comes to finding a great game to play.

@ETAPRIME You mention @0:45 that the computer is an HP ProDesk 600 G3, but @5:04 your system information shows it as an EliteDesk 800 G3. It's a minor difference formwise, but it could play a factor when considering graphics cards and the slot layouts.

can I play old games with fightcade without a GPU? like dreamcast/naomi games online?
i LITERALLY bought one of these yesterday off ebay for 60 bucks shipped. 7500, 16GB, and a 500GB HDD. using it for an offsite Truenas backup, but now i'm thinking i could get one with an a380 for ripping/transcoding/streaming. how close were you to fitting that 3050 in there? The a380 is about 12mm shorter...
Doesn’t have Resizable bar so it will limit any Intel cards for gaming.
There is a reason that gaming wasn't on my list of reasons for the a380. Also, any game the A380 could run wouldn't be restricted by ReBAR most likely.
@@TheMatthewLedbetter good luck with that.
HP specs for this unit show 180w PSU as standard, not 210+...GPU still gonna run on this?
I have that exact same 3050 and it is nice
i5-8500 elitedesk are just about as cheap. 2 more cores.
I've got that with a 4060 LP shoved in. (undervolted to 80w, it's taking 5 watts off a SATA to 8 pin and the other 75 from the PCIE slot)
Hi, that GPU wasn't too big for the case ? Also how performance you lose when undervolting ?
@@zeddproduction6360In the elitedesk 800 g4, you'll have to dremel a small piece off the HDD frame to fit a 4060.
No performance loss to undervolting. 1% down, 1% up, depends on game. always within margin of error.
Gimme some emulation please!😊 I have a few of these I was hoping to throw Lunchbox on and see what it’s capable of. Thanks ETA Prime! You rock! ❤
It should get pretty decently up to PS3.
What software are you using to display ram, power usage, fps at the upper left of the screen?
MSI Afterburner
ETA you mentioned possibly going with a mid tower version using a full sized card 3050 8gb version. How exactly would you recommend powering that with the PSU?

Don't go arc gpu if your board doesn't support Resizeable BAR
please review deskmeet x600 if its good or not or if it has bios issues. also waiting on the deskmini x600 but that is not released yet.
Looks like the base machine is actually an Elitedesk and not a Prodesk as mentioned in the video at 0:44. It got a bit confusing because the prodesk only has 2 pcie slots compared to the 4-slot Elitedesk you have in the video. For the viewers: it makes a difference when fitting a 2-slot gpu in there (impossible in the Prodesk 600).
I have a similar HP Elitedesk 800 G3 with a RX 6400 LP. Would the RTX 3050 LP (+$250) be a significant improvement?
I'm using the machine for arcade fighting games like Street Fighter 6 in 1440p and would like to play games like Tekken 8. At the moment it's not playable with my RX 6400.
Alternatively, is worth spending more for the A2000 (+$500)
Also, if anyone has the RTX 3050 LP, would you mind testing Tekken8 and confirming how many fps you get on 1440p and med/high settings.
I actually moved away from my desktop and opted for a used SFF pc thanks to watching your channel. It's a Dell 9020, i5-4690, 16GB ram, r7 450 which was all I had access to and it cost me nothing but time to set up. I can say that I have put more use on this thing that I thought I would. I don't even turn on my desktop at this point. It's quiet, does 90% of what I need or want to do, and if I want to sit in front of the TV and play console games, I just use this. Curious if it's worth the expense, should I get an A310(I'd rather A380 but it won't fit) to replace the r7 450? I felt like that'd be worth it but not sure if it was in the long run due to the CPU. 🤔I'd say the biggest downside though is the Dell bios and fan control, it kinda sucks. haha
The A310 and A380 performs poorly in older systems without ReBAR unfortunately. The low profile $120 RX 6400 or $180 RTX 3050 6GB might be your best choices. The low profile GTX 1650 unfortunately still hasn't come down in price.

Can anyone confirm if it is possible to fit this GPU in a sff Optiplex? Due to the double slot
How well would this fair with emulation... specifically up through PS3? Because I'm thinking 4 cores/8 threads isn't going to cut it and you would need at least 6/12, 8/16 or better to have a good experience. Am I right or wrong thinking this?
I have an i5-6500 version and with an absurd amount of customized settings for each game in rpcs3 I only managed several games running at 100%
At 100% CPU and GPU usage
The highest end version of this pc will do better but unlikely to get 50% of games running full speed
@@rexcatston8412 ok so how many cores/threads does your pc have? Is overclocking the cpu an option on any of these machines? I don't remember when Intel locked everything down nor do I have a good grasp of software overclocking these days.
intel has had their non-k/x cpu:s multiplier locked for way over 15 years now. It was possible to oc a locked cpu with bclk on anything older than sandy bridge (2nd gen), because intel started to link more things to the bclk around that time, which killed bclk oc. There are some boards with separate clock chips that allow bclk OC on newer platforms (I've heard of that being a thing on specific 6th gen and 12th gen boards). Sadly these OEM boards are way too locked and most of them never featured a bclk adjust either.
In these OEM systems... no. Even if you installed a K series CPU, there is no way to adjust the multiplier in the BIOS. The best you can hope for to increase CPU performance is to use ThrottleStop, like he showed in the video.
