Mell I would love your tips for people who live in more rural areas - what to look for if you have to drive to another city for a cut, or what to ask if your only option is one or two small shops in your hometown - how to 'scope out' a good curly hair stylist if there are no "trained" curly hair stylists in your area. If it's a good idea to drive to a see a curly stylist - and not have availability to get trims, etc - or better to work with someone local and get trims more regularly.
The last person who cut my hair back in 2019 was YOU!! I've been following your methods to trim my own hair (because 2020 and the joys that came with it 😝). I don't think I'll ever find someone who can cut my hair as awesome as you did 💗💗💗

I wouldnt always take that as a red flag, these days a lot of salons pay for training days, pay for curly haired hair models for stylists to learn on, send stylists to hair shows, etc. to learn curly hair in order to compete with these salons that specialize in curly hair only that are popping up everywhere now.
If money wasn't tight right now, I'd gladly get my usual red orange color again! I would even drive the almost 2 hours to my fave stylist who is a curly/coily, is reasonably priced, always makes my hair look amazing & is an absolute sweetheart. But until I have the spare funding, I trim my own & let my hair be it's natural color (outside of the leftover grown out ends) for a while. I don't mind my natural brunette, but I do definitely love the orangey reds the most on me. 💕
A deeper review of current curly hair trends beyond colour, would be beneficial for many who don't colour their hair. I found this video very focused on colouring, while I was looking for trendy shapes, bangs etc.

Found your channel earlier this year and loved it. Had so many plans for my long curly hair. I had my ‘lockdown hair’ cut in July my stylist of 5yrs took a razor to my curls to ‘thin them out’ . I ended up with a curly mullet 😢. Almost 6 inches of length gone and lots of holes, so traumatised!! Found a new salon and finally get my first proper curly cut in 2 weeks, can’t wait - Curly stylists are few and far between in the UK!!! I went back & forth on what I was going to have done to my hair for awhile. I was thinking about going strawberry blonde or read again, but really wanted balayage so I went for it. It had been 3 years since I’d had highlights done. I also decided to get strawberry blonde gloss put on my hair. My hair naturally has a strawberry tint in the sun, highlights help blend my grays and grow out should go smoothly. I plan on getting a new gloss done here & there.
Back when I did have color, I finally went with my stylist’s recommended product line, and the color held up REALLY well. Is your stylist upselling? Yes, BUT IT’S FOR A REASON. If you can possibly afford to go with their recommendations, you should.

I noticed over the last almost 2 years more are available on the company’s website, Amazon, Sephora, or Ulta. I suspect a lot made that change because of covid. If salons are closed, no one can buy the products, but people still need them. They’ve made it accessible.

I love this video (along with the others you've posted on hairstyles/face shapes). I have two big issues when looking at "inspiration" online/in portfolios.. 1) many of the "waves/curls" are created by curling irons and 2) all the photos are of hair that is high density (not like mine). It is hard to find natural 3a curls in inspo photos, and even harder to find curly hair that is low density. I've had stylists tell me that my hair would be "too thin" if I styled it based on my inspo photo, or it won't lay the same because the curls are tighter (or looser) than my own. Do you have any suggestions for us low-density curlies?
Did my first hair color this year. I loved it so much that I did my friends’ hairs. I watched a lot of videos especially Mel’s hair coloring vids and prepared myself as best as I can of course. Now, my hair has grown about 4 inches and I’m looking to add highlights next. I’m so excited, ❤❤❤❤

I’m getting my hair cut tomorrow and it was nice to hear I followed most of your steps before watching, loved the few perceptions I learned from you that I didn’t even think about before too. 💌
The issue I have run into is finding someone local to even cut my hair. Ever stylist seems to specialize in balayage. The few stylists who seem like they could do my hair seems to only want to give me a deva cut. Not only can I not afford a deva cut, I don't want a deva cut. One stylist said my initial cut would have to be a deva cut and the future cuts could be a regular wet cut. It's very frustrating. Sadly I wear my hair up most of the time because I hate my current haircut. Oh how I wish Mel could cut my hair!
When colouring lighter with lightener aka hair bleach, low meaning a low developer 7vol-15 vol, these will process slow but be much more gentle on the hair. Worth the wait!
Do you have any tips for finding wavy to loose curl inspiration photos using natural hair? So many example photos of wavy to loose curl cuts are of hair that's obviously been somehow manipulated (like with a curling iron) to make it "wavy" or "curly". I'd love to find inspiration photos using hair that didn't need hours with a curling iron to look like the photo.
Look through portfolios of curly stylists on instagram, all the tags of fabulous stylists are here in this video, plus you should definitely utilize the Pinterest hair finder feature and look through the wavy category but also the curly category, I've seen a lot of naturally wavy/curly hair there. I hope that helps!
Mell I absolutely love your videos! They have changed my hair health. Can you do a video of dos and don’t of salon treatments for any hair type? Like would you recommend Brazilian blowouts or keratin treatments and that kind of treatments?
My stylist don't even play with me anymore lol. I've been going to her for so long that if I walk in with a photo of a color or cut she will straight up tell me - You will hate that, or That will not look the way you want it to, or I'll do it but you'll be back within 2 weeks to change it. LOL! She knows me all too well. She knows I go in there with a pocketbook full to pay her for whatever she suggests because I try to take care of my hair. Although I did finally cut off all my color late last year so don't have to worry with that part anymore. Now just growing it back out.

I live in Athens, Greene and I have tried too many different hair saloons and came to the conclusion that most of hairdressers don't know anything about curly hair..When they blow dry them they touch them...All The Time !! Aw Mell I wish you could do my hair 😭 I want to get white/platinum on the bottom layer and bangs but my forehead is literally 2 inches 💀 and all the people around me who I have seen don’t do what I want to get done and I don’t love their work 😭 I’ve never had my hair dyed or made such a drastic change so I’m conflicted 💔 like if I can’t get platinum cuz it won’t look right, idk what color would. 😞
If anyone can find inspiration pictures for thin, fine curly hair for a short haircut, let me know! All the short curly styles I can find require lots more hair than I have,with much more texture/thickness than my hair can achieve. I can’t even tell my stylist what I want because I’m not sure, and we play guessing games at every appointment.
I found my recent style and color on pinterest. It's similar to Mel's. I love it! Add few more layers so the top isn't so flat at my resent up keep. Only issue I struggle with is frizz specially on my part sections. Loved this video, so much to know and I wish I knew this years ago. What a journey! Also note when booking to see your stylist: some may charge between 15-50$ for a consultation before your appointment! Apparently its not on trend, BUT - I'm ready to do a buzzcut. I've had long curly hair (similar to yours) my whole life but have always wanted to cut my hair at least once. Aw Mell I wish you could do my hair 😭 I want to get white/platinum on the bottom layer and bangs but my forehead is literally 2 inches 💀 and all the people around me who I have seen don’t do what I want to get done and I don’t love their work 😭 I’ve never had my hair dyed or made such a drastic change so I’m conflicted 💔 like if I can’t get platinum cuz it won’t look right, idk what color would. 😞
If anyone can find inspiration pictures for thin, fine curly hair for a short haircut, let me know! All the short curly styles I can find require lots more hair than I have,with much more texture/thickness than my hair can achieve. I can’t even tell my stylist what I want because I’m not sure, and we play guessing games at every appointment.

I found my recent style and color on pinterest. It's similar to Mel's. I love it! Add few more layers so the top isn't so flat at my resent up keep. Only issue I struggle with is frizz specially on my part sections. Loved this video, so much to know and I wish I knew this years ago. What a journey! Lol I sported the bozo the clown 🤡 look for a bit. 😀
Still in lockdown just gave myself another curly cut I don’t do much to my hair sometimes temporarily dye in the summer which for me is in December and school holidays

I can see how they really help. My hair is NASTY, DYED AND DRY. (Naturally nasty dry, that why I dye. Mell, how hard is it to learn to cut curly hair well? Disregarding specific techniques like Ouidad, Deva, Rezo, etc.
Also note when booking to see your stylist: some may charge between 15-50$ for a consultation before your appointment!
Apparently its not on trend, BUT - I'm ready to do a buzzcut. I've had long curly hair (similar to yours) my whole life but have always wanted to cut my hair at least once. I don't expect you to demo, but can you do a video or send some resources about what that transition, new care routine, and grow out will be like?

I always show pics and my hair never turns out...I tend to get choppy cuts that leave empty spaces throughout the look of my hair...
