If battery matters a lot to you personally I have a few tips.
You'd be surprised how much the total wattage lowers by simply capping the fps and lowering the resolution on it's own. If you cap it to around 40 (For most people totally playable) You're taking away a HUGE burden on the device. You don't really need to lower the HZ because the panel will do that for you if you lower the fps (VRR).
Also, Asus/AMD has updated the firmware on this device increasing performance at lower TDP ranges a LOT. This also means battery life will improve as well because you can play games at lower TDP ranges.

Business-wise, the only games that work on mobile is free multiplayer games with “in-app purchase” option. So yeah dev read the data and triple AAA games just a waste of money to develop for mobiles.

I have a Switch and a Steam Deck, and I'm getting the ROG Ally as a complement to them. I love handhelds, and I usually play on a couch, in my office, or in bed, where I have somewhere to be plugged in. This makes the battery life a mostly non-issue for me. I think this will be perfect for me for playing games the Deck can't play. I don't believe it will replace my Steam Deck, but it may be my go-to for a lot of games due to how good its performance is.

As someone who's been using handheld PCs for a while now, I realize that battery life is not that big of an issue. I thought I would be gaming for long hours which isn't the case even on trips. May be on flights or as a passenger but 65w power banks are cheap now or the plane has outlets. Most PC games that takes hrs to play require mouse and keyboard which means you're likely tethered/docked.

I think you should've played older pc games at high or max settings just to show that this is more powerful than a 2014 desktop pc.
And as for the battery consumption, it isn't really a problem for me because I always connect it to a TV, so I play cuphead and other indie games on it while it's charging. I connect it via HDMI. And I then connect Xbox controllers and play cuphead 2 player coop.
I think the device shines this way, cause when not home I just take the device with me to work and plug it into the monitor and play games while it's charging or plugged in.
So I don't think ASUS meant it to be a mobile" device. It's more a powerful gaming machine that you can fit into a small bag and can take everywhere with you. And yest if you want you can play in handheld.
I also think it's good to plug it into non smart TVs and start watching movies and UA-cam and other things.
I think these machines are more for indie games rather than triple A games. But when it comes to old and very old pc games, it's a champ! I mean you can play black ops 2 on it! At max settings! At 60fps! So....... That's impressive to me.

The comparison between the z1 extreme, the apple m1/m2 chip and the snapdragon 8 gen 2 was very good to put in the video! you are pro! only thing you couldve added was the wattage that each chip uses on average. I couldn't find a comparison anywhere. This shows that arm chips can have x86 performance with lower wattage consumption. We need a ROYALTY FREE / OPEN SOURCE / FREE OF LICENCING COST soc chip thats good enough to be used in all upcoming gaming handhelds. I hope some manufacturers in China can bring mobile chips architecture with no LICENCING FEE to the market!! i was cheering for huaweis kirin chip but poor huawei got trade bans and havent seen a newer versions of their chips here. I wanna play good AAA games like resident evil 4 remake and the best games on a mobile SoC 120hz locked minimum power lost at heat in a handheld that feels lile steam deck / wii u gamepad. The reason also is because the Z1 Extreme/7840U has a massive CPU side as well. It's almost as fast as a desktop Ryzen 7 7700 or laptop i7-13700H. So it is not as laser focused as it could be for gaming. 4 core 8 threads would've been better. And also x86 chips are just more versatile as they pack a far wider instruction set compared to ARM and that makes x86 less efficient in many cases. This CPU also supports AVX-512 which is why the PS3 emulation is so good!

@@DeepteshLovesTECH yeah we need a gaming focused SoC with an Architecture especially made for only gaming, no hdmi out or media accelerators build in. It shuld be even more efficient than ARM64. Chip containing Only GPU's and just enough CPU to play all games at 120hz and like a fast wifi chip inside too obvious reasons.

5:12 i think it’s because they wanted to make it lighter than the steam deck. I wonder if you can mod in a bigger battery?

If Doogee can cram an 81wh battery into the V MAX, there's no excuse for Asus not putting a decent capacity battery into their handheld game console

At the moment, the support is going to suck for this device unlike the steam deck, literally a Google search away from the most complex hiccups. I'm still picking this up though, need some personal comparisons between it and the steam deck

Why bother putting it to 1080p and using fsr ultra performance? That's quite misleading since internally the game is rendering at a much more resolution...

@@Riverpeth No it does not. At 10 watts and lower the Deck still wins, also the Ally can't go below 10 watts.
I'd wait for The Phaux to release a video about the new drivers for reliable testing
