Every single time i hear someone mentioning running in SMB, i remind myself of fact i played through over half the game without even knowing that i could run. Man, i should get myself to play some more Super Mario Bros one day...
I definitely *_will_* be giving this a shot. To be fair, the bubbles shooting straight forward rather than bouncing about do give the player a 140% greater advantage. I'm sure that having one-hit deaths is a way to circumvent an otherwise lackluster challenge.
I made some of the enemies bounce intentionally because of said advantage. It makes them a little harder to hit when they're bobbing up and down. And yeah, the Lakitus are just downright disgusting to deal with.
The ghost dude is called Baron von Blubba (Skel-Monsta in Japan). He would show up if you took too long, and was invincible. Pretty scary when I was 6. Also, this rom hack is rad. Wish they could have replicated some of the actual Bubble Bobble mechanics, like trapping enemies in bubbles and then popping them, but it's still cool for what it is.
The rom hack looks good with the change environment, plus the tweaked mechanics are neat. I’d like to try this but with the music being off, I find it just drives me crazy. Maybe it’s easier to listen to for those that haven’t played Bubble Bobble much, but not me.

My brother and I used to call the enemies: Goombas = funghetti (little mushrooms) Koopas = lumache (snails) Hammer bros. = Draghetti (little dragons) Bowser = drago (dragon), I think Bullet Bill blasters = cannoni (cannons) Cheepcheeps = pesciolini (little fishes), I think Can't remember what we called bullets, spinies, and Lakitus.

It's not bad, but it shoulds adapt the mechanics and physics of the bubble bobble games... *the enemie is catched on the bubble, and if you jump, you blow up the bubble *when the enemie is dead, this converts on food or any item *the basic item you obtain of the bricks shuold be the shoes that makes you faster, and the candies that upgade your bubbles * things on the levels like the tubes should be adapted like equivalent things of the bubble bobble games (like the umbrellas, for exaple) *the enemies get angry if you has wasted many time on pass a level *when the draggie jumps over bubbles, bounce on them. Things like these could make feel the game more like that "bubble-mario" as it tried to be.
It depends. I know. create a videogame is not thing of open the graphic motor and press aleatory buttons until it works. But remind we talk about 80's videogames. Should hard, but definitively posible to do.
