Hey Brantley, I just had this happen to my 2011 Equinox the other day. It was weird to see the temp gauge stuck on cold all the while and the fan running after shutting the engine off. I replaced the temp sensor and that fixed the problem. I didn't even have a check engine light turn on on mine though. Good job.
Thank you Brantley….your video helped me to identify the issue with my 2014 gmc terrain slt… the car fan continued to run and I couldn’t figure out what in the world…well your step by step review of possible causes had me check my coolant level….duhhhhh, it was near empty! Put the coolant in and waalaah… problem repaired…if only the car had given me a message to refill coolant it would have been so much easier to resolve this issue! Appreciate your mentioning it in your review and glad it wasn’t the temp sensor.
I own a 2014 gmc terrain as well. Mine had similar problem with high fan staying on, burped the coolant system=good as new. I realize this worked for me may not work for you. Putting in a new thermastat/coolant +flush today bc mine is long overdue. Thanks for your video!
Thanks a lot for this video, I got the same issue for my Holden Captiva 2015 petrol, sensor at almost a similar location, I hope I can fix it within hours.
I had the same exact symptoms on my ‘15 Equinox. I pulled the fuses for the computer and reset it. The problems seemingly have gone away except later today I noticed that while the temp gauge was no longer pegged cold, it’s not at normal either. Somewhere in between so I’d guess I’m not done with this problem yet. My AC is back to working though for now as well as my fan no longer runs after shutoff. What I really would like to see is hook up a obd2 reader and see what the car thinks the temp is.
Doing this job next week. I will try from the top first like you, otherwise I will take the LF wheel off and try from there. Some GM's have a air bleed on the coolant system, I don't think that the 2.4 does.
I’m barely a parts changer. Definitely not a mechanic. This wasn’t too hard for me. It’s been running good ever since. Well, the Terrain has other problems, but this new part has been working great.
Thanks Man For The Video !! The Terrain is Like a Old Ford Pinto But The Pinto Was Way Better !! and Still No Frame On a GMC Shit Box Car For The Money !! Thanks again for the video !!!
Please help I have the same problem and we did exactly what you did in the video put it still won’t work. The fan still turned on and inside the car it won’t move
I'd change the thermostat as preventative maintenance. It's really bad when they get stuck closed and you overheat. Stuck open is fine since you can drive it until you get home.
Man.. saved me about $400! This video was a life saver from a guy that doesn’t know sh** about cars and more so about car repair lol
Thanks a ton

Brantley, I just finished changing the sensor and it worked. I cleared 3 codes and only have one for something else, P030. Thanks for the help.

This is exactly what my 2015 GMC Terrain is doing! Thank you!
I'm so glad you made this video. Same symptoms here. Going to try your fix tomorrow.

Fixed the same issue by disconnecting the battery waiting 15 min reconnected EVERYTHING WORKS I kid you not!
Ours resets but it will come back after short time
Did the same, but the issue comes back after a week or two.
Did you guys figure it out. I change the sensor and still doing it.
Brother was that sensor above or below the thermostat housing
My fan does the opposite. Only runs on low even if it gets hot. Think that is this sensor?
What was the fix? I'm having the same problem

Sensor is fine. Po 128 you need a thermostat. Disconnect battery for 10 minutes. Your done.
Installing a new coolant temp sensor fixed my problem
Safe mode :-)
