I like the usage of the Pythagorean Theorem for the door area (see 1:10). The entrance is square-shaped with a width of 7 studs which is set into a gap of 10 studs at a 45° angle. This fits so nicely, because the diagonal of the square is sqrt(7²+7²)=sqrt(98) which is only slightly smaller than 10.
Thanks for highlighting the maths behind that! I have played around with pythagorean numbers in lego to build diagonal walls before akin to the boutique hotel, but never thought about if from the perspective of brakeing a straight wall with a diagonal element like this.
While overall I do like it, I do have a few issues with it. First and foremost, for a Jazz Club it could have looked a bit grittier, more "mature". Less windows, more intimate (and where's the bar?). Also, while a printed sign is infinitely better than stickers, these modulars do have a nice tradition of brick built sign, which I would have much preferred. And missed opportunity: It would have been fun if this would have included the Jazz Quartet but now in minifig form 🙂
This is a great set, I don’t think it’s as good as the Boutique Hotel, but it’s still a great edition with some great callbacks to both the Fire Station and Palace Cinema. 😊
Love the jazz club and the dark bricks. Jazz clubs back in the day, were dark brick buildings, but not feeling the pizza Modular next to the club. Doesn’t fit in. However, I will add to collection.
I fell in love in these modular buildings, going to chase Brick Bank from second hand, so far we have Police station, Book store, Boutique Hotel and Assembly Square, these buildings are such a joy to watch or play with when you add street plates
Great review. I recently got addicted to modular buidlings. But this one is not on my list. While the theme is amazing, the color choice is not for me. It seems Lego has picked these colors just because they weren't used in a modular building before. I rather go for the boutique hotel.
You know, you having the set up of the bookshop to the left and boutique hotel to the right really work well. You're right. That set up and the depth and color combinations make it a nice display. Thanks for another great review. Really helps in buying decisions. Many thx Tiago.
Ooh, it's gorgeous. Don't think I prefer it to the Hotel, but I love the New York nighttime vibes it carries. Thanks for the wonderfully articulate review, Tiago! You never disappoint.
I'm a little bit bummed that this is not two separate buildings on separate base plates, but it does look great combined with the Boutique Hotel. I think that's going to be the perfect setup
Finally a valuable review of the upcoming modular building. I think, it offers more than it seemed to offer at first. Many were disappointed, but like you said … it’ll be hard for any modular after the unique Boutique Hotel. However, I’m missing the magic show which is advertised at the entrance. Thanks for the great review!
I must admit i’m a bit torn on if I get it or not, but seeing it next to the bookstore’s townhouse gives me a good idea of what it would look like in the spot I’d reserved for it along my skyline. But I don’t think this one is as necessary as I thought, and perhaps the plan to make two more town houses instead would be better. Thank you for the review as always, Tiago.
4:20 All I hear from Tiago is "My favorite detail here is [context words that I'm willfully ignoring] TECHNIC elements." YES! IT'S TRUE, TIAGO ADMITS HIS LOVE FOR TECHNIC.
Personally, I prefer to create MOC buildings, but the 'official' Lego buildings are improving. I like the Jazz Club, for example, it has some good detail. :)
You won't be able to get them all unless you have unlimited funds, I think the green grocer's from years past is about $3k now. I started late as well and there are some I just won't be able to get.
Happy New Year! 🥳🎉 I’m gonna be honest this is probably my favorite Lego set currently following the Lego Titanic that I just currently built. Thanks for bringing this type of content to the Lego community!😃
As a musician dating a Neapolitan and starting a Lego city, I swear this Lego set was made specifically for me. I’m SO getting it Edit: also, the total lack of signage is VERY accurate to a nice little Neapolitan pizza place that will make you the best Margherita you’ve ever tasted.
I am known amongst my friends for my homemade cocktails and pizza's, and I have a dream of opening a bar one day that plays live jazz music and serves pizza's and other snacks... It's like this set was tailor made for me
I'm actually thinking about putting it next to the fire brigade, with the palace cinema being opposite that street. I think it'll give the whole street a homogeneous new York vibe and i like the idea of the big light fixture signs of PC and JC making it feel like that street is entertainment based
Nobody seems to be talking about the fact that they’re doing a new way of having mini figures connect to the baseplate, instead of jumper tiles it’s just studs
some nice building techniques here - I particular like the stained glass windows, and how the stage is at an angle on top of the floor tiles. Overall though the whole set feels a bit off, like the inside is just a bit too plain/simplified for what the source material is. not for me but thats ok
Tip: sure it has been said plenty but when putting in the “jazz club” marque it has a tendency to cave in the roof of the ticket booth. Learned the hard way.
So...I think I am going to take the plunge and start building a collection of the modular buildings for display. What top 3 would you recommend I start with? I don't own any of the sets currently. I notice the Assembly Square is more expensive than the others - is it worth it?
“There’s no way you won’t get it too.” I dunno. I’ve been watching/reading reviews about this, and I’m not taken with it. I’m not a modular completist - I skipped the town hall and corner garage too. And this one still looks weird to me. The jazz club looks like a modular, but the pizza place reminds me of my daughter’s 3-in-1 sets. I’ve seen shots of it elsewhere next to the Detective’s Office, and that looked pretty good. But it’ll have to be on a big discount for me to pull the trigger. (And they happen very rarely in the UK on this line.)
Im gonna snug the Jazz Club next to my Police building ( I added an heliport on top my Police building ) then put my Hotel on left so Jazz Club will be in middle, so the Jazz Club will be my 3rd modular as of right now my Police modular is my favorite!
I think this looks really great, and better than what I initially thought. Only disappointment to me is that you can’t separate it in 2, mostly because the place I was planning to put in my city is between the palace cinema and detective office (for my beachside mid century American entertainment district) and I think the bright yellow pizzeria just contrasts a bit too much. I might just build it in 2 because it won’t matter if there’s a hole between the 2 since they will be placed next to buildings
Will def be getting this. Love the vibe of the jazz interior and the look of the exterior altho the blue seems a bit off. But ideal if bigger ie entire module was jazz club and also a mezzanine w tables. Also very unrealistic to have a connecting pizza place. Love the yellow would have bought several if the buidlings were separate. Love the greehouse on the roof too.
I've never owned any modulars yet. Which should I start with, to get the best bang for my buck? Is the corner garage worth it's current price, or should I buy the latest ones firsts as they're at the lowest they will ever be, and slowly save up to catch up on the older sets? Not looking to build a huge city, but at least 5-6 modular sets for a decent street.
The corner garage is probably the one I disliked the most to build. I would say the bookstore is a good one to get you started. Lots of clever builds, it's also split into two buildings so very good to take your time and likely to be one of the first ones to retire, out of every other modular still on shelves. If you like it, you'll still have time to get the others. (I guess assembly square might be the one to retire first, but that one is pricier than the bookstore)
The first floor layout just feels odd with the colors and open view from the stage to the oven. A door would have helped with that. This wouldn't be a hindrance to play between the areas either. The lack of sign for the pizza place would make sense if there wasn't a front door access. A small "to go" sign or something would be great to suggest the kitchen doubles as a takeout joint.
I love modulars and am like a kid on news year eve excited to order the newest modular. However this year I will wait on the jazz club and maybe buy later if a pizza delivery truck gwp comes available. This modular to me isn't great and looks more like a moc. The colors seems off and the jazz club itself seems small and cramped. There are many lego Ideas modular/buildings that are far superior that will never be made. (Downtown Records, the library, the opera, art center). Is it time for lego to hire some new help?

Hey what is your top three LEGO sets
I can appreciate how you keep your reviews brief, yet somehow more informative than most other reviewers.
I prefer longer and more in depth ones but I agree with you, he is very informative
This set looks awesome, it’s tempting me to dive into the world of LEGO Modulars! 😁 Have a great Christmas Tiago!
Beware, it's impossible to stop once you start
@@TiagoCatarino Yup, you can say that again! I now have 5...
@@FiontarFloinn this will be #7 for me :(
haha
Slippery. Slope. You’ve been warned :)
@@TiagoCatarinoI’d have bought all of them after getting my first but went broke just getting the police station… 😢

Jesus people like you suck soooooo bad
As a jazz musician, I'm so temped to get this. This would look great along with the Lego Ideas Jazz Quartet on display!
Loved the way you took us through the build. I accurately think I want 2 sets to make a bigger club and get 2 separate buildings.
Here to provide! Thanks

I love the look of this set. It's insane how much detail they packed into it. Seeing all the modulars together is really neat too. Thank you for that!
the interior is amazing, but for me it just feels like way to many colors, all going on at once, and it just looks a little messy imo
Yeah but you suck, so its ok.
Did not know that, thanks!
Great video.. I have an issue with this set however... all the best jazz clubs are in cellar bars below ground...
As a upright jazz bassist who loves Lego - this set is everything to me
I fell in love in these modular buildings, going to chase Brick Bank from second hand, so far we have Police station, Book store, Boutique Hotel and Assembly Square, these buildings are such a joy to watch or play with when you add street plates

Just get both. You’ll regret not having bought it in a couple of years when it retires and quadruples in price
Great Review Taigo! I think at 1:55 the awning on the left has its tiles misplaced though😅.
Amazing review as always! You are now my go to channel for reviews!

Excellent review. I was looking forward to this video ever since LEGO announced this set.

I think that the nest on the roof is for for the bird that came with bookstore set. Maybe squirrel is hint for new set?
4:19 sue-ing machine! It needs a lawyer!
I wish they made like mini Modular’s, like just small modular sets, still minifigure scale but cheaper
How do you keep your modulars so clean?! My are whole in dust...

It does. Not the best looking though. But that's just me
They could have done the Pizzeria seperatly
FUN FACT: the bass guy is also one of the minifigures in the new Lego City police training camp set

Brilliant review, still not convinced….will need to see it in the flesh
Great video review. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I wonder if there are any hints or ester eggs in this set for the 2024 Modular, haha.
When do we get the GwP? The Pizza van?
The squirrel on the roof making a nest from the leaves from the Bookshop set
im so excited to pick this up - itll be torture however as i work at a lego store and i cant pick it up until February 😭😭😭 thank you for the review!!!

how do you get all of the 2023 sets earlier? is it because you work for LEGO?
