✨ABOUT ME
Hey there, I'm Beatriz, a Portuguese expat living in Amsterdam!
In 2019 I moved to Amsterdam, from sunny Lisbon, after landing a job in the city of the canals. A year and many adventures later, I decided to start writing about my endeavors in Amsterdam, my traveling adventures and more personal stories I believe are worth sharing.
In 2021, I decided to create this UA-cam channel to help my fellow expats that are considering moving to Amsterdam or The Netherlands. Moving can be really tough, so I'm here to help you out and make your life easier!
super informative and helpfull, thank you! 💕
Thank you for this video, very helpful. Gives a clear outline as per current scenarios in 2023. Was looking for this information since long time. Take Care !!
Happy to hear it helped!
Thank you for making these, my best friends are moving to the Netherlands and I'm researching going too. These videos have been super helpful for me!
Great content, amazing script. Some images/tables would be nice to look at when talking about the costs. Thank you, very excited for Amsterdam!
What a great video! For now on I will not give advices anymore to my friends, I will just redirect them here!! I totally agree with your comment about Albert Heijn, I am currently making groceries on Dirk and sometimes for the same food the difference can be like 20-30 euros on the bill (and the quality is the same), I feel I was scammed by seeing AH every corner 😂
thanks for sharing this great video
I am living in the Amsterdam since 2022 and this video is really accurate. My costs are almost the same
wish you put the names of the areas you mention for renting on the video (written)
Obrigado pela partilha :)
So how do you find an apartment or house? Do you work with local agents? Is there a website or an App? Or are you referring to prices on Airbnb?
Great video how much to living in Amsterdam you do good
Hey, how much is the gym just for a couple of days?
Thank you so much a very clear breakdown
I would love to know if you are able to watch movies in english but totally understand i would be in their country and respect their customs…i just feel it would be something i would miss
Im in Melbourne Australia but i feel like Amsterdam would be a really good base for exploring europe as its so close to so many beautiful places and it ticks boxes as someone who is sadly a bit older for trying to learn dutch ☺️
Sorry for the delayed response and you may already have the answer. But the reason 95% of us speak at least conversational English is in large part due to English TV shows being subtitled, same with movies. Outside of TV/Movies actually made in the Dutch language, I don't think you will ever hear it dubbed, will exclusively be subbed. So you'd be fine.
Has weed also had a steep incline due to inflation?
Also, you mention salary being high working there. How high?
hi is there any courses there to make an expert in Forex Market?
Hi there, is 50k gross annual salary okay for the Netherlands? I was just offered a job and I want to know if I will survive
You will.
Do employers not cover health insurance?! In Belgium most corporate roles include that as part of the salary package.
Employers also pay for employees, but not for specific your insurance. You won't realy notice but they do pay. She is talking about the compulsary insurance on your own name. Separate system in The Netherlands.
people be paying rent thats 40 times my national average😭
700Eur in groceries? That it is insane. As you said, it totally depends on the diets and what you like to eat. I have multiple friends (couples) that eats well (with meat) and pay between 350-400.
In total? Tell me where they shop 🥲
@@BeatrizPaulaYou may try Aldi for groceries and Asian shops for meat and vegetables.
@@somewherestuckinl.a.3239 Wow. I’m a gourmet cook, all organic, and my grocery bill for 3 is 600.00 a month, and I get my meat from a butcher
@@somewherestuckinl.a.3239 that sounds totally normal. I live in Serbia where for family of 3 i spend 300 euros and not missing absolutely anything. When i compared prices in Netherlands with serbian prices i found out that prices are 2-2,5 times higher for some products and some products cost the same...coffee, toothpaste, shampoo, all kind of candies, beer and other alcohol, milk...So 600 euros for family of 3 sounds reasonable.
@@somewherestuckinl.a.3239 yeah i know that you replied to Surrea Ivy... just saying that in Serbia my family of 3 spends 300 euros per month on groceries. In most western european countries that would be around 600-750 euros(not in Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Austria). In america and canada those same groceries would probably be $1000+.
Thaaats a looooot of money. The groceries is a looottttt. wowww
Hey we are single, we want expenses for single person specially apartment prices 😂😂So as I saw minimal salary in Netherland is about 1950 euros per month, I want to ask you is it even possible for 1 person to survive with that salary and is it legal to sleep in car and to not rent any apartment if its that unafordable (I lived like that, and thats good way to save money for us who are humble persons. I do not know if its legal here, or I need to have permanent residence) ? I am willling to move and I do not know dutch language, but now I am little bit scared, idk what to do 😕.
Standard rule on the housing market these days is a gross income of 3 times the rent. So for 1950 gross your room/apartment should be 650 max.
@@moonsummoner_ its crazy... why is that? Maybe I want to give 60% of my salary to rent, maybe I want to eat less. I really dont see logic in that rule. Can I sleep in car by the Netherland law ?
@@wewillnotbebroken yes you can
You are allowed to live in a camper/car, however you need to comply to the "Wet Basisregistratie Personen (Wet BRP)" which states that it's mandatory to be registered on an actual address at your respective municipality. It's possible to register at an address of someone you know
Yeah very very easily, if you aren't some wild spender. Can get a sociale huurwoning which is basically a rent controlled apartment for like 600 a month, and if you earn below a certain limit you can get huurtoeslag (help from the state to cover your rental costs, only if its your front door, so subrenting would disqualify you) of like 300. Utilities are about 200, Health insurance depending on how much you make is $20 - $150, groceries can be done for $200 for 1 person. This all assumes you aren't looking to live in central Amsterdam, but a city like Utrecht, Zwolle, Amersfoort, Tilburg, Breda. Hell, I'm living on $800 a month at the moment and I'm not going hungry or thirsty or cold, just saving a bunch.
Thank you! Actually you have to earn at least 100.000 per year gross in order to have a 1,500 reserve per month (if you spend money exclusively for basic costs) with these costs on living. Quite lot, taking to account that high qualified expats get in average only 65.000 gross:/.
But you forget the 30% tax ruling and yes you can live outside Amsterdam too
Yes you can live outside Amsterdam, but if you don't have proper public transportation, you will spend that money on a car. Life is expensive in Netherlands, and as soon as you don't have 30% ruling, your salary vanishes. Beside, there are countries in Europe, where the cost of living is cheaper, and you save about the same money as here working less hours. @@CaranProductions
Why alcohol so expensive?
How can i contect with you ?
Crazy how this video was made only 8 months ago and the rent for a 2 bed apartment is within 2200 to 2800. What the h3ll happened?
Thats cheap compared to Boston. 2 bedrooms in Boston are over $4,000-$5,300 per month. Thank god I bought a home in the suburbs back when housing was cheap.
Insurance is not 170 euro pp for sure!
Inflation has also come to Netherlands, no way?! 🤦🏼♀️
What about if you have small kids? School, leisure, etc?
Folks 72k to 74k yearly is a good salary to live comfortable in Amsterdam?
Yes
After taxes, you’ll only have 4.1k
Comfortable - yes, but you won't save that much if you will rent full apartment for yourself
It is absurd expensive, on top of that those regions you don't usually own a car, which is also very expensive but may be required to get to a job because waiting 1.5 hours a day for a bus on a 30 minute ride is kind of impractical too. I guess only people owning property downtown or making a killing can live comfortable there.
150 euro / mo on health insurance is NOT BAD. 😅
If you're used to sunlight dont live there
Brasileira ?
Je woont in Nederland maar kan je wel Nederlands?
Jij niet met je kan. Pfffff
Zij is expat! Expats blijven alleen maar een korte tijd in Nederland wonen … zij zijn alleen voor werk in Nederland … zij is dus niet geïmmigreerd en erdoor natuurlijk geïntrigeerd
Thank you so much for making the Dutch speak English! Back in the 1960's and 70's brown people arrived here from their former colonies. Because the Dutch themselves didn't have enough young people due to WOII. So the yt Dutch people told the brown people they had to integrate and learn how to speak Dutch. Meanwhile, the brown people did speak Dutch. Anyhow along you yt expats came and you force everyone to speak english. One colonizer can't compete with the other other colonizer right 😅😅😅
Aaaaah poor baby...easy life with 30% ruling...LOL
