I just enjoy watching This Old House. I like to build Lego sets, and whenever I work on one I always have This old House or The New Yankee Workshop in the background. Gives me the impression that I’m a carpenter lol
Love this immensely (I know that isn't the coolest word, but couldn't think of one that was fantastic (lol)). It shows you the ease of some things and the prices today are off the charts. I loved watching this show because I started out about that time in general contracting but in the city, I lived in an apartment but love the look of working in and near those trees and the freshness of the cool crisp air, I could work all day long. Plus, way fewer people all around you. Gosh, I wish they would show all of these on t.v. again. Let's start a channel??? God Bless brothers and sisters!!!
Lolll well I haven’t seen the new episodes...but idk where you live but that’s average for where I live in this market... and I just appreciate how budget conscious they used to be
This was back when WGBH owned the show. Even with some corporate sponsorship, it's still a PBS station doing it on tight budget. In the late 90' s when GBH sold This Old House to Time Inc., the money flowed right in.
@Jacko Sargs yeah it is... and I get the point... but do you get my point as well?... and I haven’t done the inflation calculation to see what that would be in today’s dollars
Obviously some editing but this is basically how people used to work.....Work on one thing then the truck shows up and you switch gears and pour the concrete....Constantly getting things done.
I feel this is how I still work... lolll I just bought a 3500sq foot 5 bed 3 full bath.... trust me I’m jumping from this to that back to this lolllll I have my work cut out for me but once I’m done it will give me so much more equity and it will be the way I want it....the only thing I’m not doing myself is the siding
Glad to see you drop this knowledge about the compressor. I thought it was odd looking. I was born in 1980, so I don't remember this era. I do remember as a kid about 84-85 my dad renting a lot of equipment at the golf course he was the maintenance super at, big trenchers and bobcat s. I remember too that renting stuff like this seemed like a really new-fangled thing at the time.
I always had a real problem with Bob including himself as having done anything on the show. Any show he's been in is always the same. He was a joke and an insult to the real workers.
These older episodes are great! It's so much more interesting watching then the more polished show today.
Classic episode. The flannel, the boots, the tools. Bob at his best.
Bob Vila is a national treasure. He’s an asset to America the likes of which we may never see again. Plus he’s hung like a horse.
Used to watch this program every Saturday morning back then
Me too. Took awhile to get in the local Sacramento channel, but this and Hometime were my Saturday mornings.

I just love these older episodes of TOH !! 👍😘🛠

I watched this when it first came out on WGBH. And I recorded all the shows on my VCR.
Isn't that illegal?
@@JM-yx1lm It's not illegal. I wasn't selling copies or distributing them. It's ok to do for personal viewing at a later time.
@@277kne If you haven't already you should get them copied to cd or something, the vcr tapes breakdown over time.

The good ole days where TOH worked on homes that weren’t only $500,000+

@Jacko Sargs I feel you
Young Norm! I love this! Thank's for uploading.
Back when they actually showed you how and why to do things. Today it is just spend a million or two and call it done.
Look at Horsecock Bob manhandle that jackhammer!! We love you Horsecock Bob!!!
Nice hearing protection,Bob !!
Real men back then didn't wear hearing protection
Vila’s no pussy
My Favorite episode of the 1980s
That porch is immense. You gotta admire Vila's positivity. That's a major task.
I and deaf today due to years of running jack hammers when nobody thought about ear protection.
Am I the only one who thinks Tom Silva watches these old shows when he needs a good laugh?
Yeah , you won't see any this old house host these days doing any man work like that...Long live Bob Vila !!!
The modern this old House does stuff like that just only to expensive homes or places for charity
@@governmentphone7933 thats because the old episodes the homeowners only paid with sweat equity not actual cash as apposed to now a days

He does!
the good old days of $50 a yard
Love it!! Thanks!!
So many of these old episodes were filmed in fall/winter for some odd reason.
I was born by 12/7 of this season. This was the last year Norm Abram used his razor.
Apparently ..safety glasses was an optional thing back in the day...watching Bob swing a hammer tacking the sheathing on was hysterical
What’s so hysterical about it?
lol at 20:33 "Hey cement truck driver, can you say yea?"
"How bout I sing it?"
part 1?
Its under “ this old house with bob vila s3 ep1”
If Bornwell's old apartment needs to upgrade, Why Mr. Vila gonna reorganize & redesign his old apartment for my finanial accents?
The “helper” loll (Mexican)
The year is 1982, input from a dummy terminal, into an IBM or HP mainframe. Who knows perhaps information is fed using punch cards.
this will later be removed circa 2004
Ha! PK Lindsay compressor went out of business shortly after this video! Farmington NH

Exactly. Bob is a poser. Norm is the GOAT

This whole episode he is doing stuff!
Pronounced "Woobin", of course.....
Is not villa is viya
It's Bob Vila, there isn't 2 L's
Strange - Vila acting like a contractor who is doing everything and Norm acting as the host and asking questions?!
