People who say the cat is in heat:
a) have never had a cat
b) have never seen a cat in heat
Cats do this to impregnate what they're rubbing up against with their distinctive scent. Pheromones released by the glands on their head and necks also have a soothing and reassuring effect on cats, as they're making sure that this new "thing" they're facing (literally!) is now familiar to them.
Are you saying that the cat want to impregnate the horse because it's rubbing it's head on it?
My cat does this to me, the door, her food container, her food bowl, and literally anything else she's close to. Cats don't to that because they're in heat. They're marking their territory, or "safe zones".
Impregnate with its scent, so it's actually "impregnate" taking the meaning of "cover, imbue". Not "impregnate" as in "getting someone pregnant". Maybe it was a bad choice of words. My bad ;)
My one male cat, who is fixed, does this to my dog all the time.

Does the cat like all of the horses? It's a different horse on the cross ties than in the stall--the horse in the stall seems more fond of the cat. So cute though.

This cat isn't in heat. Her meow isn't like it would be if she was. My female cat is fixed and she rubs up against everything like this cat did with the horse. She is just trying to figure out if the horse is friendly by the smell! :)

Wow! This is definitely one of the coolest and most adorable videos that I have ever seen! I mean, I am a cat-guy and every time I see a cat doing something like this, it fulfills me with such a pleasure and even rush! But this one is amongst the very top cat cuddling moments that I have seen!

I've seen several videos like this now and I was curious to see how to tell if a horse is happy. Like, with cats obviously you get tell tale signs like purring.
From the brief glimpse I've garnered from the net, it seems horses do a fair bit better with companions around. Like other horses but several places also seemed to recommend barn cats as well. I guess it's not that uncommon?
