Hey Joe, I have a 750. All of my exhaust valves were off. All measured at .10 mm mostly and they need to be .18mm minimum like you said. I followed the Manuel/shim chart. And I only gained .3mm or clearance for a .10 difference in shim size….idk how aggressive I need to go now, I only gained .1mm of clearance for every .5mm difference of shim size.
Rod, same thing happened to me. shims from the factory are measured in smaller increments. Replacement shims are measured in increments of .005. I tried to measure in between .005. exhaust clearance is.018 to .028. Error on the side of larger clearance.. There is a log of mechanical differences that can affect valve clearance. Look on the valve clearance chart to get the proper shim replacement size. If you do not have the haynes manual email me at jpitz31@outlook.com. I will send you the chart. @@JoediyLab ok. Well, I had 1.60mm OEM for my exhaust shims. Chart recommended 1.50mm, so I’m thinking about going to 1.25mm based off of my first experience, since the .10mm difference only gained me .03 mm…
@@rodb4523 I ordered individual shims from summit racing. Order several sizes around your target, that way you aren't waiting for shims to arrive. Good luck
@@JoediyLab I just restalled shims, this time 1.20mm……down from the previous newly installed 1.50mm. And I’m still out of spec, short of .18. .18 will go in but not without a little effort. I expected way more.
@@rodb4523 yes, but you are close now, make sure you clean the followers and valve faces good before you lube. It happens, sorry but you saved close to $700 dollars from the dealer
