Thanks, John. This live is so good and Phil is so good at bringing the audience onto stage and making it fresh and cheeky. Some how he keeps it from being cringe-worthy. Nice tune too.
Best live version of this masterpiece of a song. Sooooooo powerful! Yeah, the "audition participation time", fucking briliant. Phil was a child actor. Check the same kind before Domino. Awesome!!!! Was lucky enough to see this show in Paris for my first Genesis concert, aged 17. Never seen better than this. The vari-lights were magical on this show. There were on fire, all five. Made me definitevely huge and faithfull fan of Genesis and Phil.
Phil does a similar Zappa schtick for 'Domino'. A song worth catching. He gets the whole stadium in on it (again). Very cool. Yes, a real showman. Saw them once in '78 (the tour that his wife left him on cuz it was so long). Best concert of my life. Phil's charisma just shot the stage and into the crowd, just grabbed us all. And his drumming was epic energy. So good!
Great reaction and analysis as usual... Genesis live were one of THE best there was. Phil was a great "everyman"... that happened to be a brilliant drummer, singer and frontman. He always did have a great sense of humor. Also to give context/ perspective on how popular the band was at this time, they sold out not 1 but 4 consecutive nights at the Wembley Stadium this tour (87)... which holds about 80 thousand.
This band is 'quality'. Special Energy. Attention to detail, but that heavy beat going all the through with the other instruments changing above it. Great guitar solo....so smooth. Plus, IT ROCKED!
Thank you Rory. Great reaction to this performance. Phil and Genesis live are untouchable. Domino 1& 2 is another where Phil encourages audience participation. Quite funny.
I just watched the latest interview with Phil and his son (who also plays drums). So good to see him in this video in his prime. I'm still kicking myself for not going to see him with Genesis. I was around 20 when this song/album came out but I had an opportunity to see them when I was 17 or so. This song was big in the dance clubs. Thanks for sharing this clip!
Yay! One of my favs! Can't wait... Oh. You're doing the audience participation too. 😂 This song is about a burglar that gets trapped in a house of ghosts by the way. 😊
I love the bit at the end with the siren playing behind the lead guitar bit. Mike is probably a better bassist than he is guitarist but live, he plays lead on everything they wrote post Steve Hackett leaving. Darryl plays lead on the songs from before that. When you finally get to watching Drum Duet/Los Endos from this Wembley 87 gig, Mike swaps between rhythm, bass and also bass pedals whilst Darryl plays lead.
Great reaction to this amazing song, for me it's the ultimate version of this these two songs. You really need to watch Drum Duet with Los Endos from the same concert! 👌👍🔥🔥🔥 I also love the finale of this concert, Turn It On Again with a a medley as a homage to many great songs (not Genesis songs). Not so popular among many fans because of it but you will see the funny Phil doing it great.
Genesis and Phil Collins at their best were superb...saw them a few times in the late70s/early 80s...such a shame what happened to Phil in recent times.....good one Rory
More must watch from Wembley Mama. ( First song of concert ) Domino ( hopefully you can find the audience participation on this one too. It's minute 16:00 of the full concert, I'll provide a link ) Drum duet / Los Endos ua-cam.com/video/4NSWWFhTrk0/v-deo.htmlsi=nCCbWkOkraNl7wlP All of the time stamps are in the description too.. The entire concert is just perfection 🔥 You'll have to get into the 1980 concert in London after you've gone thru this one. Phil is certainly a character in that one. Another amazing concert from start to finish..
Seriously you have to watch Drum Duet/Los Endos from this gig. Its absolutely incredible. This is fantastic but that song is twice as good... And then You have to do Domino (same gig) as well. That's just incredible
*Seconded about Los Endos. Even better is the Turn It On Again Medley finish, which is utterly remarkable. All three, the Drum Duet into Los Endos then finishing with the medley is the best possible finish to a live gig.*
@MattSingh1 don't agree with the turn it on medley. I think it's the only blotch on the whole concerts copybook. It's a bit of fun but nothing more. Reckon we've had this convo already elsewhere
Hooray! I love your Phil reactions and this is one of my favorite songs. If you didn't catch it, a burglar enters the home and is captured by the house and the souls within. They force him to sit and listen to their old stories because he's someone new to tell them to. Another with good audience work is Take Me Home by Phil Collins. It has everything you like...Phil, Phil on drums, and Phil screwing with the audience. ua-cam.com/video/egJR3K6UIJY/v-deo.html
They sold out 4 nights in a row 75,000 each night. And yes, Phil plays the audience as good if not better than Freddie in my opinion... You heard the end of the previous song at the beginning. That's always a crowd favorite where he interacts with them and they sing along. It's called Throwing It All Away Fantastic song
Its funny you mention the comparisons between Genesis and Queen. If you watch the Drum Duet / Los Endos youll hear Radio Gaga ( Queen song ) In Los Endos. Los Endos was written first BTW.... Ive heard several bands / artists that have sampled Genesis
I love the beautiful ethereal escape in between an otherwise intense and engaging performance.
Thanks, John. This live is so good and Phil is so good at bringing the audience onto stage and making it fresh and cheeky. Some how he keeps it from being cringe-worthy. Nice tune too.

They are so fucking brilliant. What a band. Love yr reaction.

Saw them perform this in 84 at the NEC light show was incredible so was the song.
Yay! One of my favs! Can't wait...
Oh. You're doing the audience participation too. 😂
This song is about a burglar that gets trapped in a house of ghosts by the way. 😊
saw this live Jack Murphy Stadium, Phil hypnotized the entire crowd and made us believe he floated the stadium into the air 😂
I love the bit at the end with the siren playing behind the lead guitar bit.

..and good ol' Chester Thompson on drums..one of Frank's drummers👍
Super great legendary band overall, but damn Phil was flawless when he performed.
Genesis and Phil Collins at their best were superb...saw them a few times in the late70s/early 80s...such a shame what happened to Phil in recent times.....good one Rory
That is why Genesis are thought to be one of the best live bands. Great reaction. Brian May is a Genesis fan.
