- In this video, we look at how the increase in development pathways and opportunities have increased since the rise of the AFLW and discuss the flow on effect this is having within women's football, changing the face of Aussie Rules at a grassroots level. Breaking down key stats, looking at trends in club best and fairest winner ages and comparing the stories of Erin Phillips, Daisy Pearce and Madison Prespakis, it becomes clear that the AFLW is only just getting started.

Watching an AFLW match from the inaugural season versus this years, you can actually see the talent and the way it's growing too!!
The skills at the Freo-Richmond game on the weekend was head and shoulders above games from previous seasons. The quality as the younger players who have had the pathway that you describe start to have a greater impact in games is MASSIVELY changing the game.
The sheer speed with which I clicked on this video. Love, love, love the W content and the League. Hard to believe that we're already over five years into AFLW.
I think you research shows that the young women coming into football has had a solid footballing background versus the older women who came from other mixed sports. Give it five years or so and the league will take a quantum leap in skills and fitness which will be exciting to watch.
As the years pass, it will get better, it will become more exciting.
Babe wake up footy A2Z posted!
With this content kicking off 2022 I'd say Footy A2Z is about to explode 💣
I so badly want the AFLW to prove everyone wrong and take over Australia as an actually recognised sport
Here here! 🙌
The research that has gone into this is amazing! Bring on more AFLW content 2022 🎉🎉
great summary, well researched and it pleasing to see the skill, game play is improving exponentially. as passionate tigers supporter, our team is building nicely. talent galore, with McKenzie. with Cont close by, i poised to be the best players in the league once she McKenzie returns from injury.
I care about the AFLW. The VFL in the early 1900s involved sloppy ball movement and low scores, it'll take time for the AFLW to become somewhat entertaining to watch. But I'm all for Women getting a chance in the spotlight
I’m loving the crazy growth of women’s footy. Would love it to become professional sooner rather than later. A crisper product & growing crowds will continue to lure in more corporate dollars & is only a matter of time.
Zac, Andreas.....I absolutely loved this episode. I've been touting this on the podcast, but you guys did a fantastic job of demonstrating why this explosion is about to take place. Great example of it yesterday with Zimmi Farquharson's debut for the Lions last night. Looked silky smooth out there amongst a club of premiership players. Good on ya, mates!
Hope so
If you enjoyed the video, we would highly recommend having a listen to this chat between Phil Davis and Daisy Pearce about her journey and how she views the future of the sport: www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/the-phil-davis-podcast/daisy-pearce/12238836
Such a great video! Very excited to see how the AFLW improves with more professionalism
I’d rather see them promote netball more, an actual professional women’s sport
I wonder how many people know that Daisy Pearce helped bring them into the world? That’s an awesome fun fact to have about yourself
I think AFLW genuinely has the potential to be the number one women's sports leagues in the world. All AFL teams will have an AFLW affiliate in the coming years (which will make it, with 18 teams, one of the largest top flight female teams in the world) and the game is high scoring and spacious enough (in terms of larger field/more players and the fact the ball is flying through the air a lot of the time) that it is visually appealing in ways that clustered and slower sports (e.g. basketball, ice hockey, soccer) are not (thus gaining them less favourable comparisons to the men).
I loved hearing about these women’s stories. Girls now have a footy path. The future is bright. I really enjoy AFLW. Thanks for putting this together and for citing Denise Wong!
Great video! We're really starting to see even the poorer teams be able to play explosive football (see Gold Coast's 5 goals in half a quarter to run over the Eagles), which makes the games much more exciting than previously where a 3 goal lead was game over.
Great Video!!! I Liked!!!
Great content! Keep it up!
I've been watching it this season and its getting a lot better and enjoyable same with wbbl
This means that early draft picks are, generally, worth more than established players at the trade table. Especially if the player being traded is one of the "generation zero" players. Doesn't matter how high profile the star from the early seasons, I don't think I would give up a first rounder when the opportunity cost is an 18 year old girl with uninterrupted junior development.
Whereas a known men's star is definitely with a 1st rounder over an untried boy coming out of high school footy.
I loved the AFLW season this year more than ever
Love these videos
It wants to explode. I'm very pro equality, but most games thus far are of an abysmal standard, in fact as someone who welcomed the advent of women's footy, it's embarrassing to try and build up a game where 3.2.20 is a winning score, in fact I'm genuinely surprised how mediocre the game has been. Btw, pretending it's not so, and acting like every behind is some kind of cazaly level act of genius, only hinders development.
Hopefully AFLW can eventually start in October for a 23 round season too
Surely make a video about the adelaide crows because I'm a die-hard fan of them BTW love your videos
I’ll definitely come back to this video when 2 Victoria Women teams sell out the G for a granny. Future is bright for the women of football
My club is one of those 24 clubs with 8 girls teams with 20 girls per team
I don't see how they cancelled the season but still awarded the AFLW Medal. Seems a bit hollow that medal now.
The sad reality is that AFLW is never going to be much of a commerical success.. in just the same way as most other women's sports aren't. However, that will not stop these mostly subpar athletes from pushing and whinging until they receive equality of pay with their male counterparts. The AFL has really created a monster headache for itself with this, and it is going to become very ugly in the coming years.
Until my club has a team, I could not give a shit..

They should shorten the field and pull the posts in or something. It shouldn't take 6 shots to get across the field because they are playing on a field designed for people who average fifty metre kicks
Wait until they let tr_ns wamin into the comp. Stronger and faster girls.
Watching a game where the scores end up 1.5 winning over 1.1. Nah im good.
Hot hot hot!! You are missing out - P R O M O S M !!!
If they want the majority of people to get on board and take it seriously, then they need to play a side by side season with the mens.
That seems good. How do you think it would work? I imagine maybe playing the AFLW match before the Mens match on the same day, i.e Tigers v Blues Women then Tigers v Blues Men..
@@TheDirge69 Makes sense to do it that way. This way you get more out of a day at the footy, and there will be more exposure of the AFLW.
@@JimmyRaptis Don't agree. Running AFLW as a "curtain raiser" to AFL will just further ensconce the view to people that AFLW is the "inferior" quality AFL. It also doesn't look good playing AFLW games in front of small crowds at big stadiums. Playing like they are now in smaller venues is more appropriate and gives the AFLW a unique, more close up feel.
I don’t think so. The quarters are too short low scoring and too many injuries. Ask anyone in Melbourne to name 3 players. I didn’t think so. Why are they stars these comments are ridiculous. Dustin Martin would win on his own against a full team. Gimme a break please
Yawn. Boring.
Chuck in some highlights next video
Zzzzzz
No one cares about AFLW
I think you just missed the point of this video
And yet here you are
But in all seriousness though, who the hell would actually watch this disgusting political crap?
You okay bro?
According to this guy:
Men playing football: awesome, fun, harmless
A woman dares to even touch a football: "disgusting political crap"
