Sometimes I think that I am notching out way too much on my EQ's but after watching this legend go to work, I no longer think that now 😅😂 Great demonstration & straight to the point! Legend! 🔥
This one is the best mixing tips video I've seen on UA-cam throughout the years ! Thanks a lot for your vids Josh! I always thought to mix drums properly is the worst part, but using MDL just make it look so easy...
Would 100% buy a Cubase metal songwriting template from you with UHD set up how you like it, the STL plugin, your routing, and your instrumental bus/master bus settings
Seems there's a lot of requests for this. I never did it before because not everyone would have all the plugins I have. If you do have all the same plugins, it is pretty easy to copy everything you see from these videos though
@@Blackriff99 you can almost do that watching this video. I built a new template in Cubase watching this video. I still like to route my drums to separate channels though but Josh did a video in July for this. Gives you a little more control over things if you want. But you can essentially create a quad guitar setup and use whatever you want to come up with your tone and follow his tips on setting your EQ for the bus to improve and get rid of ugly sounds. The way he tone shapes and uses saturation and compression are very useful.
You didn't go over the PRO Q-3 on your Drum channel...curious what you did with that since the kit is already EQ'd. Really love this plugin, and your vids really help learn A LOT!
@@JoshMiddletonOfficial got it! Went back and noticed that. Your tips are soooo good. You do such a great job explaining things so us non pro home hobbyists can actually make sense of things. It's made a huge difference in my setup in Cubase. I've created a new template using your drum plugin and your guitar tone and shaping tips have changed the way I put it all together. I've playing guitar for two decades but I only recently got into the digital realm. Learning all this stuff makes it so much more rewarding to play and actually make music. Btw, hoping to see you playing with Sylosis when you come to Raleigh next May with Trivium. \m/
You plan on doing anymore Mix Recreations in the future? I'd like to throw in a suggestion if I can, I've always liked how Gojira's The Way of All Flesh sounded and that crushing guitar tone. It'd be cool to see how you would go about getting their tone. There's even an unmixed version of Toxic Garbage Island with all the raw tracks (including guitars of course) out there for download.
@@thefuse03101 nice! Do I need to do anything special or can I just drag the midi down from the ez Drummer track to the MDL track? Thanks for replying btw.
@bobbyincidemetal i have a big custom mapping in superior so I went into kontakt and just made sure things lined up. I think I had to remap a couple cymbals.
Josh i love your impulse response pack. Do you have any recommendations for using it live? I know at stage volume we hear more high and lowend so i'm curious if you have any first hand experience using it live.
Josh correct me if I’m wrong, but even if you are using a total 100% one side mix of the IR blend, should the IR you’re not using be put into bypass to where it’s not effecting the response/load? I’ve tested this several times and bypassing an IR I’m not using so it’s a non reactive load changes the tone drastically.
I’m the only that likes the woof on chugs huh? Gimme Conquering The Throne guitar tones all day. AJFA tones yes please. I take the overly woofing tones but never completely out. I just do the Andy sneap trick and high pass at 50.
were you involved in mixing any of the Sylosis albums *from the beginning* ? Ive always thought Sylosis albums are great from a Recording/Mixing stand point. Honestly feel its better than everything a hear across all genres.
I did our first two EPs but had no idea what I was doing back then. I did some production/engineering on some of them. First album for Sylosis I did everything (aside from mastering) for was Cycle of Suffering
They are all pre-processed. I literally spent a year mixing the drum samples, checking them in my mixes, getting an updated version of the Kontakt instrument back (from the guy who coded it for me)....I would keep redoing them over and over again until I was happy with them. I don't know how long most companies spend on their drum plugins but I would hazard a guess that it's not that much time. But I think the results speak for themselves. You can process them, but the whole point for me is that they don't need any further processing and sound like this 'out of the box'
I freaking love UHD. My favorite drum library to date!!
These drums are sick 😊

Really enjoyed this.
Great ears dude, quality riffing!
Thank you so much Josh!
Honestly I just come to these for the sick riffage, not been let down yet! 😂🤟
Great tutorial!!! Would you please share the stems (DI tracks, kick sample and midi files) to follow along this tutorial in our DAW?!?!?!?!
Guitar tone is mental, will have to try the Triple X on quads!

after listining Josh advice , now after takin my volume down , I can play on my earphones without destroing my ears,

I did! You see me open the plugin and there is nothing on it. It's just on there so I can look at things sometimes

I definitely will do more. That's a good shout. There is a way of all flesh style kit preset in UHD too
the riffage😮💨
Where I can get this IRS?
Totally going to buy these drums. I assume I can use all my Toontrack midi?
Yea, I use it all the time and it translates great

A part of the process that is usually skipped over is what are you using to capture DI’s? Not all interfaces / Di boxes are created equal. Thanks 🙏
I just go straight into a focusrite. I have a small scarlett or the clarett 8 mic pre

I use it live but we’re on IEMs. I have the quad cortex running one of the mix-ready IRs
Thanks for the reply! Very excited to hear Sylosis in Florida soon. Save travels.
Is it possible only to buy the slate trigger tci files ?
Is it possible that kontakt 6 is limited to 35 channels?

Ed S here on UA-cam has a great video on it with the way STL works with it’s IR load section.

hi josh, i see you use dark glass. What do you think of Parallax and do you ever use it instead? maybe without all the other bass plugins you have on?
I have used parallax a lot in the past. Just enjoying the darkglass one a bit more at the moment.
Do your drums have different velocities?
yep!
No processing on drums whatsoever?

dude, make a template and also sell it!!
Jesus christ Josh. Do you ever write a riff that isn't fucking awesome?
Man your mix is awesome but your mic sound is just painful, I can barely listen to you.
