How in the Hell do you guys not have a million subscribers yet??? Been one for a very long time and it floors me that you're not there yet!!! Love DeBoss Garage and all you guys Rich, Aaron and the latest Andy. Can't wait for all the content coming in 2024 Baby!!!👍😎♥️🇨🇦
probably because people watching them are not 14yo kids looking just for a fast exotic or tuner cars. This channel is more about the trucks and heavy equipment, look at the most viewed channels regarding cars, travarish? ( sidenote I don't like the channel but get the idea) exotics, bisforbuild - exotic/tuner, vgg - muscle cars + show (rajeitor, fuelmakeithappener, bring the thunder, been working on this truck already?), dde - exotics, channels like mr.beast etc we don't count as these have pr, hr and other guys behind the scenes to squeeze the video to be 100% purposeful so gen z or gen x now with 0% focus span can follow them.
It’ll be a cool milestone when it gets there.
I have a 1994 1 ton Chevy I'll trade you for your Truck
The snide jabs at emissions, government, heat pumps, etc play well to the guys too hurt to be wrenching on their own projects, but the guys that are not hurt are off building their own stuff not watching youtube or more on to other channels that lean into it more.
Don’t forget about Vince
Great news guys! I met both your factors for DEBOAT. I’m a Chef and fix/repair boats! Bonus… I’m about 90 minutes away from Niagara in Waterloo region!!
Barely started, and thank you for reading the questions out loud first. I'm at work, listening and not watching, and hearing the question before you answer it is great.
Love Rich's way of ending the session. After all the questions he had answered, He must have thought WTF. I've had enough. Good for you Rich. As always the content is fascinating, which makes me want to rewind (there, I just showed how old I am)and go over the question/answer again. That is how good the videos are. THANK YOU.
I was like, why does rewinding make you old. Then I was like…. Ohhhh. I’m old too.
I'm so excited about this Edison stuff. I've watched this channel for ages. What a year this is going to be.
I don't usually watch an 1 hour 45 minute video. But I am glad that I watched this one. Please keep doing your thing and producing videos to document.
❤
Thanks for this guys. I've been glued to this screen for reasons beyond me. lol
LOVED THIS 1 HERE GUYS SIMPLE & PLAIN & TO THE POINT BUT........... ALSO A LOT OF GREAT IN-SIGHT & DETAILS ON THINGS THERE AS WELL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME JOBS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm here because of your diesel elec build. gotta try new things always.
The Edison truck build is a awesome idea I can’t wait to see the build I’d love to build one for myself
The end of this video is hilarious, and honestly i could watch/listen to the three of you discuss the "important" questions all the time. time to start a monthly podcast.
This was a great summary for some time. AND, the ending was very good with a healthy dose of humor, or something. Keep doing what you are doing...we will keep watching.
I would love to see a cummins r2.8 in the conversion truck ... it's a turn key emissions compliant engine that has tones of support
In the future, it would be helpful to show a picture of the project vehicle your talking about. I don't remember the names of the projects you do.
Hi 👋👋 It was nice meeting you guys here in our country. If you don't remember me, I was that guy at the JMC Truck Dealer, which also explained to you how the surplus truck arrived here in our country.
Woo-hoo! Thanks for answering my question guys!
Your comments near the end about how food and food additives differ between Canada and the USA were very useful. Every other topic you covered was very useful or I wouldn't have stayed for the whole thing, but the food quality issue has become a subject of increasing focus for me. I think citizens in the states are being poisoned. You confirmed my suspicions.
You are my hero.
I started out on my own a year ago, and I am usually booked for weeks. You are booked for a year!
Good for you!! Your channel and videos are great and very real. That's what I like best about it.
Thanks for the laughs and good advice!
Oh man, this is a long video that I want to see every minute of. Probably going to need to watch it in short sessions like those vhs tapes in my teen years. Thank you for the awesome update even though I’m only here for the music.
These videos are great for keeping your fanbase up to date on all your projects! Thanks! Fyi there was a guy in east end Toronto who put a 440 in a k car. It was a pretty cool unit!
One of the best Q and A’s out there..
Awsome video Rich ,looking forward to your next video . Safe travels.great shop. Thanks for all that you do 🎉
Love the Godzilla question and Andy's careful dissection and consideration for an answer. Godzilla is my spirit animal!
In all sincerity, THANKS for all you gentlemen do. Like Rich, I don't watch TV or consume any pop culture, really. I listen to comedy podcasts as I work, and for entertainment I watch y'all and Derek over at Vice Grip. I hope you fellas have as much fun making this content, as I have consuming it! Take care, gentlemen...
You're a very strong motivator , you're real Thank You !!!!
Appreciate your comments on the epa and environment.
Andy seeming to almost fart the questions is hilarious to me............... He is such a nice addition to the channel........
My coworker truck driver said he was up by Calgary in a blizzard. Whiteout conditions and a dark blur nearly misses him in the oncoming lane suddenly. Realized he recognized what it was, it was a Tesla with it's lights off to save battery power to extend the range
I feel like the safety features that Tesla’s are full of don’t allow for driving without any lights on.
"Ornery, difficult to work with. If you're talkin' you're not workin". Words of truth and wisdom. Only productive people understand. One needs to work under contract where very specific goals are set. Such as labor costs and materials cost. If either of those is missed. One has to pay out of their own pocket. Few understand.
NEED MORE 12v videos! You’re 12v videos don’t go in detail like your other videos!!!
Agreed
I read that as 12 volt 😂
Check out the million mile 12v build series we did. ua-cam.com/play/PLmeug21M6gcX_PFILbjBFSG98PoMSx24E.html
Probably because it's all been done before
For the Edison build it’s sounding similar to how trains work. Other than the batteries are for starting.
Thats so smart. The change of cloths is great. Ive been struggling with trench foot. Its so obvious, just needed to hear someone to say it. Thanks.
“When we're out humping, I want you boys to remember to change your socks whenever we stop” ~ lieutenant Dan
Love these videos guys . Some much to look forward to. Also your personal views are on point when it comes to work life balance. I look forward to the Edison collaboration
I think edison is on of the most important companys in the industry as far as innovation goes. They are standing up and saying give free market a chance and we will provide
Just a quick aside, The def only removes NOx (n2o, no2, etc) it has nothing to do with soot. There is a regen for the deNox system, but it’s much colder than typical dpf soot based regen. To be clear, id much rather rid us of the dpf, and have high nox with def/scr. High nox is highly efficient combustion, meaning better fuel economy.
I, for one, am excited for all the new EV content you guys are making. As much as I hate to admit it, it's the way of the future. And there ain't no avoiding it. So might as well dabble in it and see what's what. Good job guys, keep it up!
Technology changes whether we like it or not. I think this is one of those “to each their own” type situations. Some people love evs and hate ice engine. Some love ice and hate evs. Some just treat it like a buffet and try a little of both. I understand everyone for choosing whatever position they have on it. If there was a 2024 handbook and we should all be doing and thinking the same thing, it would be a pretty boring world.
1:20:30 GM and others are offering kits for this. Seems a nice garage queen option, but they don't seem to be a great fit for HD use.
Love the video as always. I'm really looking forward to the Edison project, those axles will are a game changer. About 20 years ago I has a si.ilar idea with my 1995 Nissan D21 4x4 but those axles weren't available. My plan was a diesel powered generator and an electric motor on the input of the transfer case. Unfortuately the transfer case and axles would've all had to have been swappes to larger units to handle the torque and the electric motors were huge as well. Space was at a premium and so were prices for the pieces. I had made it to the point of designing a few brackets with a machinist buddy and the putting it all on hold while looking for smaller and more efficient units. We also wantes something that the average person could get replacement parts for. Unfortunately we never did get it even close as my buddy ended up moving and costs were just too high to justify it. Can't wait to see what you guys do, and I too think that GMC dually is the perfect truck to do it to.
There have been so many interesting builds on this channel, but the build with Edison is absolutely the one I'm the most interested in and excited about. It's insane to me people would leave over working with Edison (23:10).
1:22:32 to answer the question for anyone out there.
I bought a power stroke with low miles. I spent all my money trying to update it and make it like a new truck. It broke down on me. Unfortunately I was not able to figure out the probems and had to take it to a shop with cost me money. I fixed taht truck, sold it to a buddy knowing Taht I had these issues, and bought a newer truck.
My newer truck has had problems too, but they have been covered.
If it has nuts and bolts and takes gas it will break.
It’s definitely all about when it breaks, not if it breaks.
@@Notfilthy-ImAndy no and when I was up at 1 am deciding that I needed a different ride to work it would stress you out
So you got me curious on why you can't flat/dolly tow an EV. Apparently the motors produce electricity when not providing power. So while technically they can be flat towed you have to find a way to dissipate that energy. I don't know enough about why they choose the motors to drive an EV over the style that's in a locomotive (they can be towed dead (no power) for as long as you want). I know a locomotive traction motor uses a variable electric field instead of permanent magnets and I'm pretty sure they also vary the frequency as well, but that's about the limit on what I know. Wish I did know more 'cause it's pretty cool how they work.
After watching a third of your video. Andy is such hoot and he will always be... And after watching 90% Andy comes across as a pillar of the channel.... I love you Rich, but you and Andy are great combo...........
Yeah, your point @ 1:22:55 is so important Rich..... But your take on life @ 1:29:50 is right to the core imho... I am sorry Rich, but in my eyes, only the Holy Spirit can give you such a clear mind. Put a like if you wish, I will know what that means. But you and I are probably close in life expectations as a whole......... And know as a whole, you are loved Richard......
Be careful with old tires. If not properly stored the belts will rust and you have a time bomb.
Not a big deal if you aren’t towing or just have a heavy vehicle.
"if you're the smartest person in the room, find another room"!!!!!😂
Looking forward to you Edison Motors content.
I wonder about Edison projects as in
1 parts availability,
2 , customer able to repair
3, who can service it
4, technical issues with so much hardware and new technology
If you could set up your own warehouse similar to how motion race works does it. You could have a team just making parts so they are readily available
Diesel electric is where it’s at, best of both worlds. Trains have been that way for a long time.
A beneficial project would be to build a small trailer with diesel/generator mounted to it that can be towed by your Tesla. Wire the gen to the batteries with a controller that starts the generator once the battery voltage drops. Convert Tesla and what ever else is total battery to Hybrid.......Call it a range extender since the vehicle can be charged at a charging station.
Amen brothers!1
I mentioned that you should consider our location when building the electric truck, I didn’t see a response. I was waiting to hear your thoughts
For the Edison build, thoughts on the Cummins R2.8 crate engine as a powerplant? It's much lighter and more compact then a 4BT, and it's my understanding that it meets newer emissions regulations.
Possibly interested in the dually with a fully rebuilt engine. If that’s the route it ends up going.
Hey Rich, what kind of axles are you thinking about for the F-Three Kitty? I have a couple sets of 08-10 SRW Ford Super Duty axles under some trucks I'm parting out (rust free).
I’m a diesel locomotive electrician. What you are describing is a locomotive setup. Diesel engine powering generator, which powers everything
What's the best oil you recommend running on a high mileage 5.9 24 valve
I would really hate to see the gto go. I loved the videos on it. But that's me being nostalgic. My dad had a 66 gto that I spent hours working on with him when I was growing up.
Maybe you guy's could find a 2 or 3 cylinder kubota for your hybrid electric truck and maybe use a wrecked Colorado or silverado as your base for it
Have a question. How do diesels prevent their intake valves from developing sludge like GDI engines supposedly do? Thanks for an answer!
Would love for you guys to get a spot in the basement at the autorama in Detroit. It is an awesome show you would fit right in.
How many hours do you think you have in welding on the trailer
Just open a dba in Montana and you can register vehicles under that...
Regarding the F-350, weren't you going to do a disc brake conversion in the rear and something with air bag suspension in the front because of how much heavier the Cat Diesel engine is compared to the old Ford 460?
Your comment about 1940s roads and a 1948 Fleetmaster inly being able to cryise 45-50mph.....
Apparently it wasnt just 1940s roads, because my 1974 Jeep J10 only cruises 45-50mph before it gets wrapped out. Last time I tried to sustain 55mph I got it hot, blew a core plug out of the motor, and dumped all my coolant on the highway.
I agree with deleting the DEF system because it is a big waste of time and after doing research on some of my vehicles that I have worked on the nozzle for the DEF fluid is not even before the filter so it is not really cleaning the diesel exhaust filter correctly. We have the technology to have these vehicles run clean with out Def.
Thx for all you do and keeping it real. Glad Andy didn’t quit. 😂Looking forward to the Edison build. I have a 80’s ford waiting for the conversion.
But I still love this channel these guys got to be the best 👌.
We have Def in the arctic in Norway, works fine ish.
I've been fasting for the last 6 months (not continuous lol) it's great.
Lake Erie.... didn't realize you were this close to me. Some reason I thought you are over on the west side of canada.
You guys should check out the Audi that won the Dakar rally this year. I believe it has a similar layout to the Edison.
Ooh will there be another junkyard racing video again and maybe do it as a junkyard offroad challenge or demo derby thing? That's one of my favorites
1.9 tdi from a alh or dew vw is all you need they have compliance for that year
My friend swapped a 3cly kubota engine in to his golf cart. It was fun to drive.
Check out south Dakota for vehicle plate/registration
Can't wait to see the Edison pickup prototype...I'd love to do that at some point in time! Fyi...take a look at what Norway is doing with EV cars...Norway is one of the fastest adapting countries in the world, and just as cold as Canada (granted, not as big, but still)...worth a look.
1:14:20 - 1:16:06 So basically the channel is going to totally change, Damn😭
A Mercedes OM605 tuned to a set RPM would be a killer generator diesel for a diesel-electric pickup. If it was me, I'd want to have a separate throttle (aircraft hand throttle?) for the diesel just to rev it up and have a bit more control - maybe tune it for 2 RPM ranges, max efficiency and max generator output.
Or just let a computer keep the engine at the most efficient rpm for the given load (which changes constantly).
Engines don't have a single rpm setting where they're the most efficient, it changes with the load.
General rule with diesels is keeping them at 70-80% load for the given rpm.
You don't want the engine buzzing away at 2K rpm when 1500rpm can match the load at that time.
Haven’t seen the c10 in a while
Any 2.8 cummins builds in the future?
You cannot buy a generator that produces a kWh of energy cheaper than you can buy it from the grid for. From a cost standpoint you want to take as much energy from the grid as you can on your Edison. Battery preconditioning from diesel does not make sense if you can be plugged in.
Bingo.
What's the deal with that Silverado? When they coming up?
Boat looks sick btw. Love the LS build.
Need a turbine for the Edison conversion, I'll work out an afterburner myself later.
How’s the C10
Gator swap ? Hayabusa ! :)
So, Rich if you like constructive comments I'm to going to give (hopefully) one...
Regarding the environment thing... Here overseas we had the problem back in the 80's that the forest died cause of acid rain caused from bad exhaust gasses.
It was solved by forcing the catalytic converter into the market.
If you watch videos from back then, all the people wanted the forest back, but no one wanted to give a dime.
The industry claimed that it will be too expensive for the customer, that the engines won't last and use more fuel... At the end of the day we got the best longest lasting cars ever made.
Electric engine control made that possible.
Engines lasted 3-4 times longer and needed way less maintenance. So exactly the opposite of what was promised by all the conservatives who would prefer carburators, points and lash adjustment till today.
Electric batteries nowadays can have a efficiency of way above 90% same for Motors and converters. So it is not a matter of trying to optimize it, it is just a matter of making it end user friendly whilst not harming the environment. This technology is exactly what mankind wants. And the user benefits are obvious... instant heating/cooling, way less noise, way less maintenance costs, no need to visit the fuel station and so on...
On the other hand, an ideal combustion engine needs no exhaust gas cleaning in any way it puts out CO2 and h2o. So after 120 years of development we are still failing in that point. That fact gives a good indication why combustion engines are a dead end and it's probably better to end it sooner than later. Also (or just )for growing generations.
The good thing is, young people who are growing up with electric cars normally prefer these over traditional ones. It's more or less like automatic to manual, if you're not a petrol head or an oldtimer, automatic is your choice.
So maybe there is more good to come then you're thinking...
And then last but not least. In general everybody gets what he/she asked for.
I'm pointing on this, because nearly all German car brands build especially cheap made versions of their cars for the North American market. Plus, the really good ones in terms of long lasting (like the Audi A2 or the VW Eurovan TDI)are not even sold in North America, simply because no one wants to pay extra for quality...
In case of your it all doesn't last anymore, my fridge was dead after only 2.5 years (you didn't say that exactly but told this before if I remember it correctly so I'm just guessing). Well, Liebherr makes also fridges but be prepared for the price tag... It's not percent more to other brands, it's times more...
By the way I would like to say thanks for the great content you're providing over the last (nearly) decade. I like it especially because of the huge variety of projects and reviews. Also because you're not going to the extreme in your builds, like others. This, "no problem I'll make a CNC drawing and machine it on my 5 axis" thing. Having Andy on board is a nice refresher to!
Are you going to expand into the states? Love to work for ya but could never move to Canada. I have defiantly worked for worse bosses.
Isn't the cummins R2.8 crate engine already emissions compliant? Then again, with the epa fine they just got slapped with.......
Not tier 4 compliant. It's ok for vehicles older than '96. The QSF2.8 is tier 4, but only makes 74hp. We need 134hp at least.
Rich I’m interested in the 05 Dully you brought back from TX…should I email you or will you scan the comments?
Shoot an email to andy@debossgarage.com and I’ll put you on the list of people to contact when/if it is going to get sold.
How much for the dually ?
If you need a Leaf wire diagram or something from the ESM let me know. I can't give you info on the program but service manual stuff I can pull that anytime as Nissan went HTML.
Containerized Tier #4 scruber generator systems used at Ports for freezer containers, Seattle WA USA all US container ports. Bio diesel compliant Carbon neutral
Your so correct about spending time with your kids, I spent my life as a International electronics tech, spent my life on the road, spent almost zero time with my kids, tho I was able to pay to get them through college, my Dad was a Commercial Pilot, we never saw him, dammed if you do, dammed if you dont.
Before I changed from scrap yard to storage yard as I was exploring the opportunity to join DeBoss, I spoke with a local businessman. He said, I spent my whole life working 7am to 10pm 7 days a week. I completely missed raising my kids and regret it every day.
That’s one regret I don’t want to have. I would rather have less money and more time. I’m very happy with my work balance currently.
@@Notfilthy-ImAndyI came from a different time, nowadays we understand being part of your kids life, but back then you could not borrow money for your kids college, it was just not done that way back then, Im 71 years old, My son is 53, and my grandson just became Virginia newest Lawyer, none of that would of happened without deep pockets, and you dont have deep pockets setting at a Little League game, only wish it did, Dam if you Do, Dammed if you Dont. I was part of some of the first super computers, and I was entranced with my job, I would of worked 24 hours, 7 days a week, it was truly amazing, and I got to see the world, I cannot look back with regret, always looking forward, just started a new company at 71, its my 3rd. Love Yalls videos.
C&C said they just partnered with Edison too.
So sad for motorama 😢 but so awesome the partnership with edisson
Great work. Hopefully, I'll have the time and money for my Chev C-70 Propane/Electric 4x4 Build. Your a huge motivation to keep me going. Thanks for the vids.
If anyone in the US is still unclear on the Fargo Steve Magnante is still recovering from his encephalitis so he is re-releasing some of his older videos and did one on a Dodge C800 for his truck week that should look familiar.
About a tracks Build with a GSXR1000 motor for the Gator and do the ultimate Sugar Shack machine. Love the channel, keep up with the good work :). From your east province neighbor.
I love that idea !
"He's a year behind, so that puts him ahead of basically every project." 😂😂😂
Hey, what's going on with your boat. You've got that boat all wrapped up with some killer-looking graphics, and you've clearly got your LS engine all painted up and assembled, with the blue exhaust manifolds, ready to put into your boat. Where does this stand???
This weekends videk
I'm an old guy 53. I'd like to come work with you on your Edison . And I'm not a mechanic But I do fix my own car. When it breaks.
I couldent figure out where to go to submit a question I seen on facebook but couldent ask
Ask now. See if we can get you an answer.
