We have one of these. Bought for 6k with 130k miles on it. Six years later it has 180k miles with now big problems besides normal maintain stuff. Did have to have the A/C worked on about 165k and that cost about $1,000. Other than that just tires, oil, brakes. It is due for an $800 timing belt job because I'm not going to do it myself. These are great cars. And people can buy these with over 150k on them and not worry. There is no need to buy a crap new car when you can get something like this for practically nothing.
In England, a timing belt change is £300, fixed price. Then they tell you that the water pump is weeping and it's another £150, but at least it gets done at the same time. And it's got Lexus/Toyota coolant, which is not just water with green anti-freeze in it, it's a superior type of water with pink antifreeze in it and the price is also VERY superior. It is an interference engine, so a timing belt failure is not in the slightest bit funny. And that IS typical British understatement.
Let's me one thing clear. The cars built around 2000 were the pinnacle of long lasting machines in nearly every brand. From materials to build quality. It has only gotten worse in the last 10 or 15 years across the board.
My coworker used to have it and misses it since he sold it. Said once you go Lexus you won't want any other ride. Answered my questions on how comfortable, reliable and gas mileage. About to switch over from my 12' Accord to a GS
I had a 2000 gs300 as my first car and holy shit I miss it a ton. It wasn’t fast or anything but it drove so smooth everywhere and even made it to 200k still running perfect. If I didn’t have money problems back then I definitely would’ve kept it and put another 200 k on it but unfortunately I had to let it go. I now own a 08 is350 and i still feel like the gs was more comfortable to be in for long drives. As long as the car has been takin care of you can’t go wrong with a Lexus especially the gs!
You're 2002 Lexus GS300 looks wonderful for the year, and Mileage you have not done anything major to modify your vehicle which is a great thing no turbos, no enormous size rims, no lowering the suspension all stock from the day the vehicle was manufactured very clean and classy! The GS Lexus Models are known to get very high mileage with no known major problems just regular maintenance 140,000 Miles that's nothing on the engine, these cars can easily do 400,000 or 500,000 miles if taken care of.
I had one as a second car silver on black, bought it with 175k and sold with 230k and never had a problem. Saw it for sale with 260k a couple weeks ago on Craigslist. Upgraded to a gs460
Hey man. Thanks for the review and drive. Good stuff. I've just bought a 1999 version, and it already had a full stainless exhaust system (including the manifold), and it sounds great! Mine has a similar milage to yours to at 149k. Just needs a service really. I previously owned a 1998 LS400 - you should try one of those next. Amazing engineering and drive.
My parents had a beautiful green GS300 in 1997 when does generation first came out, I love them they are beautiful, I just saw a really nice black Sport Design today with the brown leather interior and I had to watch some videos on it LOL
Love my GS 300, just had the timing belt and water pump replaced. Tinted windows, Sirius XM radio. New leather center console!! Awesome ride, luxurious, sporty and very spacious !👀👀🥇👍🏾
These cars are great. If your shopping for one of these I suggest you look for a gs430, they're a little harder to find but the V8 turns this car into a completely different animal. I had a 2003 gs430 and it was one of the best cars I have ever driven, still regret selling it a little.
I found a sports design one for 3,500. Salvage title. I didn’t get it. It had 220K mileage. Thank god I skipped it. The next week I found one that’s 170K mi for 4,900. Better condition too and it’s an 03. Butter seats! 😤😄
I was considering this model for as my first car for months now since I thought LS was too long and big for me and ES was too smooth for my taste,my dad would love the ES but since this is for me who like to drive and not just cruise the GS is my only choice for a sporty luxury sedan. I'm eyeing on a '98 model in grey for awhile now.
Hold it there Bro🥳 most of the standard equipment in this 2002 GS300 like the Sunroof and Heated seats are still Options TODAY in Top of the range models in Luxury Brands....Sunroofs are Options on Benz BMW Audis with $100k plus price tags...and Heated seats are Options in some A6..E Class ..5 series with Hefty price tags...not to mention Double Wishbone Suspension etc....if you Upgrade your ICE...modern cars under $60k have nothing on you...
Enjoyed your review, your car looks in great condition,I am looking at getting one,the one that I am looking at is about the same mileage but a 1999 model, and has a cream leather interior. It has only been owned by an elderly couple who have looked after it. Oh big shout out from Australia and have subbed.Cheers!
I like mine, especially the speed and acceleration and the gear change buttons and the power, but, yup, the suspension is quite firm and the lower-profile tyres mean that you catch the edge of the alloys on the kerb when you park. I did that 2 weeks after getting the alloys repainted - ouch. On mine, the front suspension bushes and ball joints are failing now. I'm looking for an RX400h to replace this.
Very Minor changes you won't notice till its pointed out to you...Grill...Rear Indicators..Silver trim on the edge of speedo dials...facelift GS300 has Paddle shifters on the steering will which is very cool bcos the SC430 don't have them..MPG depends on what country you live in...if gas is cheap GS400/430 is better bcos for their fuel Consumption is almost identical..GS300 does 32.8 Imp mpg...GS430 30Mpg....25mpg/23mpg....Official Lexus figures
You have got to swap the interior out for black interior then it would be too sick because that gray color is the best color on a car exterior. Gray and black would look too sexy
When I daily drove this car I never felt uncomfortable. I'm 6'1 or so and at this time 450lb+. I never felt uncomfortable driving this car at all. This I great car for the big man. This car is for sure big man certified
Hey what cars are good for a second car I need something reliable so most likely Japanese also it needs to be about 3k a little higher or lower for price. And I want something with 160hp to 230hp as I live in Michigan and we can have bad weather. I also have only been driving for a year. Thanks
+josh henderson I would honestly get a Subaru Impreza or legacy. They are decently reliable they have decent power they are all weather capable. That's the only car you should look at for what you want imo.
+josh henderson as an alternative maybe the Toyota Matrix awd. But I think the legacy would be a great car for what your looking for. Any you are lucky that Impreza are 5k where you life I'm located in Portland,Oregon and they like 7-10k here even with a ton of miles.
If you need space get the GS but if not I would get the IS. I would have gf got the IS if were able to find one for the price when I bought this car. And yes the sport design package would be the equivalent of the modern day f-sport package. But not as many of the sport designs were built and sold.
Just got a GS300 it's a 2003 and oh my God I wish it was my first car in school instead of 95 Tahoe 2door barn door I'm sure I spent the same amount It was purchased for 9,500$ in first year of ownership on fuel premium that is One tire fire bullshit, this inline 6 blows that 5.7 out of water crazy saying it out loud but few days of ownership and online buying new rear tires now. Also owned a 89 transam 5.0 high output again 03 GS300 is faster............ Next on bucket list is 03-05 gs400'gs430 witchever is the lsv8 in gs platform I would love to hear of a better platform for the money please someone show me a vehicle that is better n can match performance.................
This generation of GS looks so damn good. I still turn and look when one passes by.
I own two of them and daily both. People look everywhere I go. Love these
I agree the 2d generation GS is a good looking car.
D B just bought one for my birthday 2 days ago
@@BackendCashcow Buying one for my Birthday in 2 weeks!!
Just got a 2003 GS300 SportDesign for my sons first car. Picking it up tomorrow for his birthday. I kinda want to keep it for myself.
Nice!! They are excellent cars!! Maybe you should. HAHAHa
Lord Rupert I didn’t realize we were having a class on how to raise your kids. I thought we were here for a GS300 review. Dickhead.
Hey, how has the GS been holding up? I have an 01' GS300 AND LOVE IT. Running perfect so far

That Supra engine probably lasts forever. Got a 2003 model, so far changed one lambda sensor beside normal service.

I have a 1999 gs300 with 182,000....no problems at all....it passed the smog check like a champ.....people always ask me is that a new car.
+Darryl Porter I know people are surprised when I say it's 2002

Does the 300 has an eshift like the 400?
Yes!
G Rydr which one GS300 or IS300 (2001) and back in 2001-2002 That was a high end package for a car.

I agree.
U should be driving a big cadillac wth chrome rims.... why lexus?
Cadillacs are dogshit when it comes to reliability, overpriced money pits.
and everyone should learn to be an airline pilot and fly their SF50.
