Man! we used to have an 02 GS300 just until last year. Unparalleled smoothness and reliability from those inline-6 engines. And amazing sound system in the car as well (Mark Levinson). You're an absolute GOAT for having a video on this
saucyp lol ok boomer. This car has the most boring interior, it almost put me to sleep. How. HOW is this interior more interesting than a new BMW or the new Genesis G80? I feel like your argument is rooted around the fact that you probably grew up with these types of interiors and therefore have a sweet spot towards them. I love how people complain that new cars are all PLASTIC, when in fact these cars had 10x more plastics than the newer ones. Compared to older cars, new cars barely have any.
This review brings back good old memories. I had a 2002 with every option including Mark Levinson, factory HID headlights, and factory touchscreen infotainment (incredibly responsive). To this day, it is still the best audio system I've ever heard in a car. The newer Mark Levinson I sampled in the GX 460 doesn't seem to compare. The vocals, details, and soundstage was incredible. The cabin was dead silent and the 2JZ, as with any inline-6 or v12, inherently never vibrates by design. The AC was too cold. I had to constantly turn it off every few minutes otherwise all the windows would fog up from the outside. I would've loved to send it your way to review.
They also designed the UZ V8 engines to be just as smooth as a typical I6. It had 8 crank counterweights instead of the usual 6. They spared little expense back then.
@@jehadwadi4554 I've had plenty of experience with a 90s Alpine system, Nakamichi, and early Mark Levinson, and most modern "premium" audio systems don't exceed them when measuring with CD source quality. The Burmester system in an S-Class is amazing, though.

Same. It's hard to find a GS300 or even an IS300 from this generation that's in that good of shape. Most people just beat on them, engine swap them, or sell them with high mileage. Still, these cars are awesome, especially with the 2JZ engine. I love Toyota.

I myself own a 2000 GS300. It's definitely the best car I've owned yet. Such a nice car, and with a lowering and some nice wheels and a good exhaust system, they become head turners immediately! Tho I would not call it a fast car. It's more of a cruiser if anything.
This was one of my favorite cars as a kid. I was 10 when I was introduced to this car, at a store that sold model cars. I was gifted a black model car version of this, with tan interior, for Christmas. Brings back memories.
I have an 88k mile 2000 GS400 Platinum (improved leather, bird's eye maple trim, black chrome exterior trim, and unique wheels) in Millennium Silver over black. Last month of production. I truly believe it's a timeless design and couldn't ask for a better car. Speaking of the ball joints, the one thing that is crucial on these and other Toyotas with this suspension design is to use OEM ball joints (others are too risky and not to same standards at all) every 80-90k miles.
This was a issue on the earlier 98-00 models. www.clublexus.com/forums/suspension-and-brakes/310895-warning-to-all-2nd-gen-gs-owners.html it’s well documented on the clublexus forums.
@@iheartgs400 This is a thread where people neglected to change them. These are bunch of people who let theirs go for way too long. Yes they changed the design, but the stress put on the ball joints requires even the updated (and slightly strengthened) newer part to be replaced every 80-90k miles. I wouldn't let _any_ car go without ball joints for as long as some of those people let them go.

I've also considered an '07 GS350 but those cost a bit more then I want to spend at the moment.
Got one of these in 2015 with 77k miles on it.. Had it until 129k miles - got into an accident that totaled it (someone had a seizure while driving and hit me) a few weeks ago. Going to miss this car so much.
A lot of people think the 2jz was originally from the Supra, but it was actually born in the Lexus GS/Toyota aristo first. The aristo which is the jdm gs was the first vehicle to have the turbo 2jz and na version of the engine. Even the base JDM version of the supra got this NA engine with auto just like this lexus GS, all of the powertrain is shared with the Supra. But in the usa we only got the turbo supra, thats the only difference. And u can put the turbo 2jz into any gs300 from a jdm aristo or from another supra. I guess u could kinda call this a luxury 4 door supra. This chassis is also similar to the Lexus sc300/Toyota soarer, and Toyota chaser which we never got here in the states. A lot of people think this is just a normal luxury car but its not, a lot of people in Japan drift these and build them up. They are sleeper cars for sure!
11:26 mark levinson was available in the 2002 ES300 as an upgrade, my 2006 ES330 has it. I thought it was also available in the GS but maybe I’m wrong. “Lexus premium sound system” was what came standard on Lexus’s and you could option for Mark Levinson system as an upgrade. Both were phenomenal
A GS with no exhaust leak. That's a first. My 99 was leaking from the Y pipe 02 sensor being rusty. Mostly taken care of. Power steering pump took a crap at 204k but otherwise great comfortable decently fun car.
These cars are legends. 3k seems like a steal for this condition despite the mileage. This is the base Pioneer system. I believe the Navi equipped cars came with mark levinson audio.
Recently acquired a 97 LS400 and it’s transformed my driving style in a good way. Reminds me of my Mercedes W123 but better in every way and Japanese too. Highly recommend it!
Because of import tax, these 2003 GS300 prices around 8 to 10 grand in Cambodia. Nevertheless, Lexus is the most favorite and recognized brand here. I'm sure you'll impressive by seeing many Lexus when you trip along the road of Cambodia. And I'm also owned one of it too.
The Lonewolf My first car was a 2GS in 2007. I've had 5 total, and in 2020 I still want another one. Hard to find a black on black GS430 in decent conditions though
Hell naw. Generally when I see a well kept older car, I think the owner cares about it in most cases....which is why I still get excited when I see old Civics (6th gen and older) in good condition. lol
the chevy trucks from this era are incredibly solid mechanically but they definitely rattle and shake a bit by now lol. I had 2000 chevy 1500 with the 5.3 LS with 300k miles that ran like hell mechanically, but ac was broken, odometer was broken, suspension creaked, and interior was cracked to hell. Still a great truck though. I wouldn't touch an american car from that era for anything tho, other than maybe a well kept Crown Vic.
IMO the Lexus models from this period are the best deals in the market. Prices are great, they're super reliable and can probably outlast almost anything else. Some may say they're boring, I disagree. But then again, I don't care about gadgets, infotainment systems and all these Gizmo's you can find in today's cars.
It's so beautiful.. 😭
Love my triple black 98 gs 400 , was just painted, has black isf wheels and Borla exhaust , i could go on forever , God the upgrades I have in this thing and the passion for this car lmao . I daily it and I will NEVER sell it I get so many compliments and every time I get out I just have to look back at it and smile ... that's a clean car very nice he's lucky he don't have the 60 mph steering wheel shakes , i know way too much about these cars lol
Nice video - ive never had a gs300 but this video gives a very good insight from a drivers persepective - I'm and LS430 owner - keep up the good work
I have an ES from the same year, it's interesting to see how similar things really were across the brand.
He got that thing for a steal. It looks very well kept.
Lol I legitimately hit the subscribe button the moment you said, " This song bumps". Made my day!!! 😆 🤣 😂
Such a fantastic car. Came close to picking one up exactly like this earlier this year. Very underrated car.
The meeting of the Tophers. I always liked the old GS series and this has aged nicely. This has inspired me to get my grandpas old 92 Cressida with 72k up and running again.
That car could be an heirloom.
I absolutely love this car! This is from the era when Lexus was at its finest
I have that exact color 2002 gs300! What an excellent machine, I still drive it, and performs the same as when I bought it 12 yrs ago!
My dream car back in high school
I will say that this 2003 GS still looks very elegant~ Very timeless~~
My friend has a 1999 GS400 as well as a 1992 SC400. I've always loved Toyota/Lexus! I had a 2017 IS200t F-Sport for a couple of years & just replaced it a couple months ago with a 2016 GS350 F-Sport. RIP GS 1993-2020.
I have used the gs350 f sport 2014 no problem at all i love I sold it after the flood hit and drawn but i use it for months i never changed any thing on it just smooth and strong car
Wow. That GS reminds me of my mom's old 2002 Lexus gs300 sport design. She had it since 2003 and she sold it to my dad's friend in 2016
That's some pretty good audio quality for 2003 ;)
The Nakamichi in the '98-'00 cars was amazing too.
I fell in love with this vehicle when it came out! Fortunately, I found one in great shape. Sage green. A real eye- catcher!👀👍🏾
I glad that you finally afford that car after 18 years
I have a 2005 GS300, i love it so much that I take the long way everywhere I go.
I love Lexus cars, I'm so glad the IS was my first car. just beautiful
I've been looking at one of these or the GS430. It's nice to see a video from you on one!
Alexander Wilson Get a 430 if you want power! Stock GS300 is toooo slow
@@noelr1010 Yeah the 430 is faster for sure and from research I've done the gas mileage isn't that different either as long as the right foot isn't too heavy. I dont really need anything fast for my daily driver but it is nice to have some passing power cause everyone drives slow where I live.
I don't think this car is a beater, it's in good shape compared to most '03 GS300s as well as IS300s on the road today. I love Toyota.
This used to be my dream car back in college
Still my favorite generation Lexus GS.
I bought one with 220000 miles made it from Mass to Colorado and still running after a lil maintenance
A GS with no exhaust leak. That's a first. My 99 was leaking from the Y pipe 02 sensor being rusty. Mostly taken care of. Power steering pump took a crap at 204k but otherwise great comfortable decently fun car.
Pretty normal issues on a high miles Lexus.
mine had a leak too
These cars are legends. 3k seems like a steal for this condition despite the mileage.
This is the base Pioneer system. I believe the Navi equipped cars came with mark levinson audio.
Sold my pristine ‘93 last year. God I miss that car...
Had a 2002 model. Cool car. Really reliable. It had a lot of road noise in comparison to my brother's E Class.
Recently acquired a 97 LS400 and it’s transformed my driving style in a good way. Reminds me of my Mercedes W123 but better in every way and Japanese too. Highly recommend it!
One of the best cars ever made
Might be picking a black 01 up tmr. I cant wait!
I love the 2gen GS.. I have a 99 gs400.. with 265000.. And still runs like always have.. susp..needs lil work.. but.. it's my daily
Mine has 225k.
Is it weird to say that i would love to have that car in 2020
The Lonewolf My first car was a 2GS in 2007. I've had 5 total, and in 2020 I still want another one. Hard to find a black on black GS430 in decent conditions though
Hell naw. Generally when I see a well kept older car, I think the owner cares about it in most cases....which is why I still get excited when I see old Civics (6th gen and older) in good condition. lol
Try finding a Ford or a Chevy this old with no rattles and that still rides smooth.
As if they ran smoothly at one point
the chevy trucks from this era are incredibly solid mechanically but they definitely rattle and shake a bit by now lol.
EDIT: Topher, see if you can find an SC400 to review!
What a gem! Thanks for sharing. Looks mint.
What a lovely soundtrack
You made my day
Thanks
Finally a high performance car 👌 almost as fast as that Chrysler Town and Country AMG that you did earlier
i love these older car videos
This isThe Best GS generation Lexus made
So gorgeous one day I will own one of this generation GS Preferably the 400 or 430! I have two ESs right now and an LS460.
It may not be exciting but it's supremely comfy and reliable.
Love the chrome wheels.
I have a 02 GS300 same colors! Great car!!
Love it bro, great car I’m looking for one myself.
Before I learned I was getting handed down our Pontiac Vibe, this was my number one choice for my first car. Still want one in addition to mine 😛
Take good care of that Vibe. It has neither the luxury or power of this Lexus but it does have the same durability and much more adaptability.
Right Lane Hog I plan on it :) it’s such an amazing car, I’m super grateful. I’ve driven some other things my friends or family have and the Vibe just feels so, so much more solid and I plan on keeping it until the odometer stops counting at 299,999 hahaha
These are very nice cars. I started with one and now I have 3. A daily, One I call my Pretty girl, and a donor car. Awesome running car and no regrets so reliable and low maintenance cost.💪💪💪🏁
Gosh that interior is like eye candy! It looks pleasing, even before you sit down!
Love this content. Well done.
