Soloing the Mighty T6

- My good buddy Ethan finally got his chance to take the mighty T6 into the air. We are all at different stages of pilot training, but we always take some time to honor those that get up into the air and dunk them afterwards!!
My first solo was in a T-34 Mentor, North Whiting Field Pensacola Florida. I’ll never forget it.
I can recall every solo I ever had in about 20 airplanes. It was always exciting and sometimes scared the crap out of me, but worth it every time. I got thrown in the tank at UPT, that was about the 5th Cessna I had soloed and that is another story!
Outstanding! I still remember my first T-37 solo and trip to the dunk tank! Seems like yesterday. Fly safe!

How I wish to serve my country someday and fly those Wonderfull planes
My freind Pedro Ivan Sanchez over here asked you a question, buddy.
@Pedro Ivan Sanchez Hey man, I'm on your side here.
@Pedro Ivan Sanchez dude I'm literally eating cheetos rn
@Pedro Ivan Sanchez Because Im not good at math thats why.
@Pedro Ivan Sanchez Thank You for motivating me and next week I'll join the JROTC and when Im 18 which Im close I'll serve for my country.
Reminds me of 1986. Good luck with your flying career.
So cool every year a new generations of Americans start their path down a life long adventure of Aviation.
Nice job, man. Well done. Flight school was the hardest thing I’ve done to date. It pushed my limits. “Positive rate gear up... well there’s no going back now” 🤙🏼
Wow, still reminds me of my solo In the T37. Probably same dunk tank. Vance 00-06.
I am crying still! So good!
Hope there is a video in the pipe about your &/ Ethans ability to enter UPT with eyeglasses. Its an inspiration to see and sparks tremendous curiosity!
Thank you for the comment, alot of people are surprised by people using glasses while flying and especially in my case for flying F16s, I will definitely give the video idea some thought so looknforward to it!
@@JoshuaEpley1 Ill keep a lookout! ( Pun intended )
Check out “mover” CW Lemoin on you tube, Make them tell you no. You can do it.
@@oldftrpilot2593 Mover is "da man." USAF Retired, Avionics (Have had the PPL since Jan 1980)
Dude, SICK!
Been trying to get through MEPS for a year now 😤 congrats though 🙏💪🏻💪🏻
wish i flew that in real life, i had it for years in flightsim. now i have it back. after years in msfs.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing this.
Beautiful video.
alright this shit was wayyyy to dramatic. its funny
GOOOSEEE!! U R STILL ALIVE!!!!
Those yellow E.A.R. earplugs should be inserted until you can only see the end of the plug. You have to roll them very tightly and pull back on your ear to insert them. After getting them into the ear canal you push them to the back of your head because the ear canal points backward after you get past the hard lump you feel when you stick your finger in your ear.
Must be such an undescribable feeling!
In terms of filmmaking; try to slow down the footage a bit. It makes the shakes in the camera movement appear less iff you don't have a gymbal. Fits better with the music.
Awesome vid regardless. never not fun seeing a t6 start
Interesting tradition at the end there
i did it 50 years ago and they still do it today
Maybe this is just an Air Force thing?
Awesome. Hey I was wondering what is the best way to study before UPT. Any good book sources. I a already a civilian PPL and instrument rated so I have the basics I’m looking for more intermediate to advanced level to prepare. Thanks.
bogidope.com/civilian-to-guard-or-reserve/winning-upt-part-1/ Here's a good article on UPT and what to expect. From experience, you won't be going to IFT so you'll miss out on Standup, Shotgun, and Formal Brief which are culture shocks to people with PPL's. I would get ahold of the T6A Boldface/OPS Limits and memorize them by heart and be able to recite and write them down in a moments notice. That's about all you can do to prepare as everything else comes with time.
@@JoshuaEpley1 great article thank you for that. Also I try to get ahold of T6 info. Any other books you might recommend? Do they go into detail on Aerodynamic formulas and the mathematics behind flight?
@@ethanschulz2067 I would read up on the Air Force's 11-202 which governs flight rules for Air Force Pilots. In addition the T6's 11-248 which is how to fly the T6. These will be good documents to also know by heart because GK will be pulled from them. Also they change all the time so just search for the most recent on any Air Force document website.
Nothing . You shouldn’t study before attending UPT. Everything you need to study will be provided when you attend. While true that there are items everyone studies every year, they are also updated every year, so you might study something that is no longer relevant. Outside of having some flight time and possibly a PPL, there is nothing u need to do before you arrive
You’re allowed to wear the glasses and become a fighter pilot?
Yes you can.
There are standards for eyesight but if glasses get you to 20/20, then you are good to go
@@danielh6015 Wow since when?
@@jamesphillips4836 has been for many years . I think that false idea has probably stopped so many people from even trying to be a pilot
@@danielh6015 Well it was true "back in the day" when I looked into it. I wanted to fly Air Force fixed wing but would've flown anything so I also tried with the Army who allowed correctable to 20/20 vision. I was told by a recruiter that although it was true that they allowed glasses they had so many recruits that didn't need them that they weren't taking anyone without 20/20. Makes me wonder if the Air Force isn't getting the number of qualified recruits they used to. That was 34 years ago. I ended up going enlisted aircraft maintenance. The thought of being a non flying Air Force officer just didn't appeal to me so I never even tried. I'm still working on airplanes but these days its for the DOT and not the DOD. I hope to retire soon lol.
I hope they don’t end up as drone pilots in an ATCO trailer.
Actually based on Pilatus PC-9. But a new one from Pilatus the PC-21 is faster
That’s a bad ass bonanza I want one
Is that Vance? If so what was the classes number? My son was 19-21
Yes it is, class 20-19
@@JoshuaEpley1 Congratulations! I was stationed at Vance. Loved my time in Enid and in the USAF!
I thought you couldn’t wear glasses and be a pilot in the Air Force?
Common misconception of the Air Force.
@@JoshuaEpley1 so that means I have a chance?
@@helpthisworld2156 of course, a common saying we have in the pilot community is try till they say no. Don't say no to yourself
@@helpthisworld2156 also I wear glasses and fly F16s lol
@@JoshuaEpley1 hell ya this is what I’m talking about thank you
Cool, so what are you flying now?
F16s
Joshua Epley Cool. I had a question, have any of the pilots gone into the airlines?
@@Mike39130 yes, it is very common following air force term of service completion for pilots to move into the airlines.
Joshua Epley I’ve always wanted to become a pilot since I was a kid but that didn’t work out unfortunately.
NERDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSS
I wish I made a cool video like that though not going to lie.....
my T6 video was not as epic because there was no music or editing. :(
Two pins solo...
