Never knew this item existed, though to be fair I never really added alignment to my games, never really gelled with the concept. So I might have read the original and just decided not to use it haha. Interesting changes though and another great video!

it would be rare for it to fall into the hands of a player, but it could...

Methinks that talisman looks like the Mötörhead logo. I should create a character called Lemmy Killmeister who'd be the current owner of said talisman.

The Book of Vile Darkness has some extra brutal risks. Who wants to learn how to become a lich (but you might become a larva instead)?

How do you use it if it deals damage to you whether you touch it? My first though is the bag of holding (it will still hurt you, but you will be able to drop it to the bag at the end of your turn - unless there are some specific rules in 2024 saying that you can't, - and not to carry it when you don't need it)

Of course, when it is not in use, you can keep it in a container and avoid continuously taking damage. However, there's no circumventing the damage while using it. You take damage when you touch it, and again if you are still holding it at the end of your turn. You have to hold it (or wear it) in order to use it, and every time you pick it up, you're going to take that damage. Even if you have a permissive DM who will let you retrieve it, use it, then drop it into a pouch all in one turn, you are going to take that damage every time you touch it. That is how the item is balanced. That, and the fact it does not regain charges.

@Mr_GoR_ I mean, you do, which may or may not be worth it. The question is more about how to avoid carrying it beyond exactly when you need it, as otherwise it will probably kill you in a few rounds

honestly, the way I read it, if it's on your person, you take the damage, regardless if it's in a bag of holding or not. Given that could very well be open to interpretation among other DMs.. BUT.. I'd also be open to hearing possibilities on how it being in a bag of holding would somehow negate that continual damage..

@@nabra97 Right, keep it in some kind of container when not using it. If you want quick access to it in combat, a belt pouch will do. I would imagine most reasonable DMs would allow you to retrieve it as a free interaction, and you may even be able to convince them to let you drop it after you've used it (on the ground if not back in the pouch), but this will also depend on your DM.
If your question is in regard to the attunement period, I believe the effects of an attunement item don't work until you've attuned to it. So you're not going to be taking damage right away from the moment you've found the item, otherwise, even at max level, you're not going to survive the attunement process. (8d6 per turn, 10 turns per minute, 60 minutes per hour, that's 2,400d6 necrotic damage).

@@gamemasters I mean, it's technically on a different plane of existence when it's in a bag of holding
