      He had to. He needed their oil for his war machine and food for his people. It was supposed to be a quick campaign like before BUT the USSR was sooo vast and can mobilize so many men that Hitlers forces were spread too thin and they burnt out ofter years of fighting. Also burning through their oil supply in the process.

    Some interesting comments as usual on UA-cam! Germany was a brother who didn’t play ball. While England and France were being “good little boys,” Germany was the outcast. They all did the same horrible, horrid, and horrific deems to other innocent peoples in the world: e.g. the English oppressed and killed people in Africa, Asia, etc., so did the French, basically many ‘Europeans’, “Americans”, the list of Europeans goes on. Basically, if Germans played ball, all would have been just fine! Think outside the brainwashed box! The Japanese tried to do the same and America, England, Holland, and France said NO, you are not ‘our kind’ just who the hell do you think you are? They replied, “we’re Japanese, any chance we could cover this part of the world?” ‘Fat chance’ said the Europeans! And there ladies and gentlemen is the reality, but history is written by ‘victors’, isn’t it!?!

    This is just another regurgitation of the same old myth.
    The Third Reich did rearm indeed. But not in order to prepare for an aggressive war to be initiated. Rearmament was felt necessary from the German perspective because Germany was practically defenseless, whereas the other countries had built up massive military force. When the Polish incursion began, the German army was stretched to its limits. Had the French continued their Saar Offensive and pushed forward, the Third Reich would probably have collapsed in those early September 1939 days already. Such was the lack of German military strength then, a harsh contrast to this ridiculous myth of alleged Nazi power. Of course the Allies exaggerated this power, they needed an excuse for their defeat in 1940.

    • @Guido_XL
      @Guido_XL 3 роки тому +2

      @John Henni Hitler recognised the Bolshevist threat and acted accordingly. The Nazi perspective on this was not so uncommon in that era: Russia was largely uncultivated, lacking both culture and nurture. Talk about underdeveloped Russia was not indicating a general disparagement of the Russian people as such, as is presumed to be the Nazi view. This alleged disparagement was due to the actual state in which the young Soviet-Union found itself. Discerning the military pressure that Stalin unleashed upon Europe, there was only so much that Hitler could do: either ally himself with Stalin for the time being, or take this threat out of the equation, once and for all.
      And yes, this action was also explained to the German people as inevitable in order to safeguard Germany's interest regarding resources. If the Russians could not seem to manage their massively large country, German ingenuity probably would manage. Besides, Hitler had repeatedly expressed his concern that a large country such as Germany could ill afford not to have colonies. This might seem aggressive from hindsight, but this was considered a natural prerogative to old European nations in that era. Germany had been stripped of its few colonies after WWI, whereas Britain and France, as well as the US, kept theirs and simply adopted the former German territories. To Hitler, but not only to him, this was unfair, adding to the general attitude of feeling humiliated since 1919.

    • @mikehiggins946
      @mikehiggins946 2 роки тому

      The Bolshevists in Russia were busy stamping out the last vestiges of freedom by their collective farms program which eventually killed millions via starvation. Stalin was killing 80-90% of the officer corps in the Red Army from his massive paranoia and meanwhile in Germany his real enemy was gearing up for the war of annihilation proclaimed in Mein Kampf. Good times!

    • @Guido_XL
      @Guido_XL 2 роки тому

      @@mikehiggins946 Where in "Mein Kampf" did Hitler allegedly proclaim a war of annihilation?
      Hitler wrote his text while being imprisoned, a time in which the French occupied the Ruhr area and Germany was going through dire conditions. His ideas about "Lebensraum" were suspended within the context of French and British colonialism, whereas Germany had just lost its insignificant shreds of colonies as a consequence of WWI. That war had demonstrated all too clearly as to how disastrous an isolation from economical exchange can be to a large country.
      Germany was practically land-locked, whilst lacking access to resources. "Lebensraum" meant just that: access to resources in a natural way. The concept of colonialism was not yet that much convoluted by the humanistic counter-ideology, so that Hitler got easily inspired by the accomplishments of the French and British colonial empires. He did not contemplate anything like taking away colonies from them, so all that was left to Germany was Europe. "Lebensraum" was about cultivating whatever was left, which, in that era, were the vast plains of the Soviet-Union, a young country without a heritage of large-scale cultivation nor culture. If Germany was to survive and not being colonised itself, it needed access to such resources.
      I do not understand how normally intelligent people let themselves get so deceived by story-telling. A more rational approach would readily reveal how distorted these stories actually are.

    • @Guido_XL
      @Guido_XL 2 роки тому

      @@mikehiggins946 Besides, Stalin hoped for a European war in which Britain and France would battle Germany. The Soviet-Union would watch how that would end and take the spoils. He did not seem to believe that the Third Reich would be strong enough to directly assault the Soviet-Union, but, he feared a unified Europe that would be strong enough to defeat him. His stooges in Washington-DC knew how to affect the European politics and its relations abroad, resulting in exactly that European war that he aspired.
      About that topic: did you read "American Betrayal" by Diana West? I'm asking, just in case you might wonder what impact those stooges might have had before and during WWII.

So heavy and medium tank's where not on the drawing bord at that stage of the war. Even with Hitler interfering in the war how could that many general's have not taken into consideration the weather, distance, supplies and the Russian army and people's putting up a fight. Several Wermacht generals did not think Germany was ready to invade Russia, but Hitler had absolute authority, and dismissed their concerns. It didn't help that Nazi intelligence severely under estimated the size of the Soviet military assets, including the manpower available to Stalin. Acquiring accurate intelligence on their opponents was a consistent problem for the Nazis during the entire war. It didn't help that the head of the Abwer, (spy agency and intelligence division), was basically a double agent.When the Germans encountered the Soviet T34 tanks, they very quickly went to work upgrading their tanks.

      The Versailles Treaty had nothing to do with WW2. Hostilities began the moment the NSDAP came to power in 1933, and their leader knew that a full out war was inevitable. It was only a matter of time. For this reason he took over full control of Germany and started to prepare her, by building up her strength in all sfeers. By the beginning of 1939, the NSDAP and it's leader had finally dealt with the Treaty of Versailles , by having placed Germany on an equal footing with the rest of Europe. So content were they with the outcome of their achievements, that the party planned to celebrate the reunion of all Germans in the regions separated by the Versailles Treay, with Germany, at their rally in September in Nurnberg that same year, under the theme of 'Peace'. The NSDAP felt no need to prove anything by making another war. That element, as someone commented here, was eliminated already. But their leader knew what was coming. There was one last obstacle to overcome: the Danzig corridor, or Pomerania, which both the leader of the NSDAP and the Polish government had hoped to negotiate peacefully, like he did previously with all the other regions. But there was a snag: Poland wasn't free to act of her own free will. And then came the moment that Germany's leader had feared: the Polish government was 'instructed' by the government of the USA to break off all negotiations and to start a war with Germany immediately, and in such a way, that Germany would look like the culprit. In fact, it was Germany's enemy's last chance to get their war, like in a real war. Not the boycotting and damaging of German imports into the USA or sabotaging of German shipping in American ports, that has been going on since 1933. They wanted a real war. And they got it... and their Holocaust, and their homeland Israel, in Palestine. But once more, there's a snag. Something is missing, and the same people are waiting for it to materialize and are working towards it's materialization today, and that makes the present and future of this world a very uncertain one...

    Foundering oligarchies backing the Great Powers in Japan and Europe did not do anything in good faith to respond to the Depression and help their poor and unemployed, unlike FDR with his relatively straightforward, simple New Deal Programs. This left a yawning vacumm for Mussolini, Hitler, Franco and Tojo to fill. Overreaching, the milatarist dictators and their oligarch backers were defeated in WW2, but new Oligarchs and milatarists quickly took over. FDR's death in 1945 left the way clear. Opposed to any system that would limit their reach, whether communism or democracy, the new Oligarchs and Miliatarists instinctively locked in and capitalized on the Cold War, staged coups and backed dictators, the Warsaw Pact and NATO, defending great spheres of economic and political 'influence', not unlike the old colonialism, within a decade after WW2, in a few years, began the permanent war economies, the Cold War and the nuclear arms race which continues to effectively guarentee the military industrial complexes West and East, while much of the World gets no relief from hopelessness, fear and poverty

      @@ThisPineappleLife There should be nothing wrong with loving one's people and country. This love should not be confused with hatred for others, for it is the desire to improve ourselves and fellow man. The image of nationalism has been heavily distorted by mass media propaganda, with efforts to ideologically subvert people into becoming landless, ethnicity free, and slave class. The thing that stands in their way is that there are different unique groups of people, who will choose in group preference, it is natural. To multiculturalate an area does the opposite of diversity, the mixture of the lavenders and roses, leaves the roses and lavenders gone, the breeds lost while only a new remains; this can happen over time, very slowly, but those who oppose nationalistic views tend to put strain on societies by accelerating this process through mass immigration which creates kaleidoscopes of cultures, fractured within local borders; it could be said that when these people attain power, they always seek to dilute the ethnicities for the very reason of weakening regions through rapid demographic change. A common people will be more united than those with less in common. paraphrasing of some Austrian Painter from the early 20's
