    Please include Stalin in your atrocities as he was at the very least equally horrible in this regard and many say far more so. This was covered up at the time as Russia was a allied with the west. Btw this cover-up goes on to this day. Stalin is rarely mentioned in this vain.

    The video misstates the discussions at Theran on the D-Day landings. [42:40] Churchill was still trying to delay it and sought to get Stalin's support. Instead, Stalin supported the invasion and as soon as possible.

      Two choices my friend.
      1) Let Germany overrun and overtake Russia and then USA
      -OR-
      2) Team up with Stalin (which would required being friendly so it’s common sense that we couldn’t punish them anymore) to defeat Hitler and the Nazi’s in what was an inevitable world domination if we didn’t succeed. And we BARELY won. It took All of USA, Canada, Britain, France, & Russia…. Just to beat Germany-1 single country. Let that sink in

    You have to give the Nazis credit for having some of the best cinematographer's and movie production people in the world. Their work still stands up very well to this day. Look at the propaganda documentary, Triumph of the Will. It is a outstanding propaganda work in both visual aspect and scripting to this day. Their abilities in this field in no small part convinced much of the world what the Nazis were claiming, that they were a superior people.

    I read somewhere that many admirals didn't trust radar.

    • @dennisweidner288
      @dennisweidner288 Рік тому

      @johnhopkins6658 Not just admirals, but many other commanders. But this is a matter of time and only early in the War. The British and Germans led in its development and were at comparable technical levels. (Countless attention is given to German secret weapons and very little to the fact that it is Allied secret weapons that had a major impact on the War.) Fortunately, the British figured out its importance and how to use it before the Germans. It is important to know that early radar had limitations and few commanders were trained in radar. It was probably primarily a problem with the Americans who did little with radar despite the clear importance during the Battle of Britain (1940). The radar set on Ohau was still experimental at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack (December 1941). Not only was it experimental, but there was no system in place to evaluate and act on what appeared on the screen. (This was the real genius behind the Chain Home system created by Dowding.) And during the intense naval campaign in the Solomons, few American commanders had much training in radar despite the arrival of radar sets (August-November 1942). As a result, the U.S. Navy suffered the greatest surface loss in its history off Savo Island (August 1942). Fortunately, one commander that did understand both radar and gunnery was Adm. Willis Lee aboard 'USS Washington' who delivered a crushing blow to the Japanese in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal (November 1942). Still improper use of Radar led to another defeat at Tassafaronga (November 1942).

    Overall I'd say that these are rather decent series - however I'm disappointed - once again fact that U.S. government knew about attack on Pearl harbor before it happened has been passed by.
    P.S. Someone mentioned Stalin - fair enough - I offer atrocities of Polish fascism against population of Ukraine, polls aren't as innocent as it appears. With Stalin is the same thing, as the saying goes "History is written by the victors."

      I second that, starting with the highest number of casualties....so Soviet Russia with upwards of twenty million victims, comprised of it's own citizenry and often included pogroms of jews, like in Nazi Germany, as well as many deaths occuring as a result of it's military aggression and failure to address famine. The other allies committed war crimes as well at different times in history but never at the astronomical level seen by the USSR between the two world wars. The USA in Iraq, with an eye watering several hundred thousand victims, still has not been held accountable for that atrocity, nor for it's few million victims in southeast Asia during Vietnam.

    His aversion to religion, in the sense usually attached to the term, was of the same kind with that of Lucretius: he regarded it with the feelings due not to a mere mental delusion, but to a great moral evil. He looked upon it as the greatest enemy of morality: first, by setting up factitious excellencies - belief in creeds, devotional feelings, and ceremonies, not connected with the good of human kind - and causing these to be accepted as substitutes for genuine virtue: but above all, by radically vitiating the standard of morals; making it consist in doing the will of a being, on whom it lavishes indeed all the phrases of adulation, but whom in sober truth it depicts as eminently hateful
