Awesome Adam - wonderful purchase!!! I am a pastor but I also do Bobcat work on the side - I have a Bobcat 329 excavator, Bobcat S 550 skid steer, and a new Bobcat 4050 tractor that is made by Kioti - I hope I have these machines till I leave this old world - they are extremely helpful in making a living!!!

Great deal Adam! You'll never regret this!! I always think: when I need a thing more than twice/year, I better buy it! You just use it when you want, no time waisting in looking for rentals etc. Good decision! grz from Belgium!

Agree on the rental, we rent machines and it seems the weather always gets us!! It’s great on those machines that are on only needed once in awhile but you will find all kinds of uses for that thing!!!

Congrats on the new purchase! My mini is by far the most used piece of equipment on the farm, even more than a tractor or skid steer. Fence row clearing and trimming, logging, sawmill, burning brush, trenching you name it.
You mentioned wanting a rotary mulched. They’re great but I wasn’t ready to drop 5-10k on one. A buddy recommended finding one of those articulating road side tractor mounted brush cutters used at auction and adapting that to mount to the mini. He built his for $500 and loves it! It’s on my list for this year.
    Happy digging!

I just purchased a 2.5 ton mini-excavator for all the same reasons you mentioned. I would have liked a bigger machine for use on my property but I also wanted something that I was able to transport with my existing truck and trailer to possible do some small jobs off the farm to make a little extra money. Congrats on your purchase. I look forward to seeing all the project that you'll be using it on. Dave

That clock ticking in your head on a rental, I totally agree with you. I've been there a few times myself. Almost feels like someone's holding a gun on you. The nervousness and tension that's building as time is running out😰 can be stressful and totally kills the therapy.

Adam, nice purchase! Definitely a great deal. Ones ive been looking at are more expensive and torn up. Like you, just waiting fornthe right deal. Ive been using my dads for now. But that is how i bought my skid steer, for the right deal at the right time. I like how you analyze things and use the accounting background in your purchase. That was money well spent and will save you money on the long run, plus make you a lot more money.

    That was a great deal!
I rented machines in the past but always ended up either needing it longer, or it not being available when needed. So then I started subbing out jobs requiring a excavator. Well that quickly turned into more than a years payments paid out in about 3 months. And then I never got anything done around my property either. So I bought my yanmar sv40 for 58k in October. Good deal, not as good as yours but still below market around here. And it has been priceless both on the few tree/driveway jobs I've used it on but also around here, moving trees/logs, digging stumps, assisting with firewood, grading and drainage, adding to my parking, starting to redo my pond, list goes on and on.
Looking forward to seeing what you get into with it! Thanks for the videos.

Sweet mini excavator 😀. U know what they say “ buy it right and you’ll never go wrong” , I bought a 1.5ton mini (v.popular in🇬🇧) 10 years ago and could probably get twice what I paid for it! Prices of machinery are crazy….. one thing that’s for sure is you will always have a job/project to do with it, the list will never get shorter🤣. I really enjoy using mine 👍.

One thing with a piece of machinery is they hold value I bought a skid steer in 2012 updated in 2020 and when I sold the old one I got 2000 less than I paid for it so I got 8 years of use for that 2000. It is amazing for how small the excavators look what you can do with them. Great deal for sure.

Well done there, Adam! You thought things through, as usual. And like already said many times before, including for your other purchases: once you have a machine, you won't know why you hadn't bought it earlier, you'll find tons of stuff to use it on. And when you think you've done all that needs doing, you can sell it off if need be, or trade it in on another machine.

The number of ways that you will displace muscles are unlimited to only your imagination. You will have fuel costs and the amortization of the machine that will be a write off on your farm taxes and in return, you get more accomplished in the same hours of work, you will get extra hours in your day, and you will get a quicker completion rate on projects. If you only used this on times when you are actually digging, the offset against other therapeutic practices pays for this machine…by itself. When stress in the home or at work becomes too much…go get seat time and dig a hole, make a mound, or even ‘sculp’ with dirt. The stuff already mentioned above is pure bonus.

I had under an hour's experience before I started, but it was easy to pick up how to use it. I rented the machine from a friend who has a small rental company. It was a Yanmar 55 and cost $1150 for the week including transportation. My friend was impressed with the trenches and the time on the clock, 27 hours.
