- hmm i wonder iff this is a public road or is it a start to a race track? , so what they got is a f50 and a f40 and these two and accelerating down the road at rull revs! omg u must see and hear it!!

It's almost criminal how the f50 always lived in the f40's shadow, yet (going by this video) makes the f40 sound like a vw polo in contrast.

Ferrari's and Lamborghini's calling card has always been a big V12 (this F50 sounds like the F12 too)
This video skipped the f40s 0-60 that can not be more biased. Also f40 > f50 because it costs 3 times the price and slower.

It’s better than the 1.6 turbo. Not the others though. The 1.5 turbo, V8, V10 and V12 cars all sound better. Especially the V10.

This is a public road, which is part of the old Reims Circuit where the French GP used to take place back in the 50s. Incredible sound for the F50, which is the closest to a F1 car Ferrari has built to date (3.5L F1 engine tweaked to 4.7L according to roadworthy durability, carbon hull, etc...)

Yes, it is straight of the Circuit de Reims-Gueux street racetrack in France, where the F1 French Grand Prix and 12 Hueres of Reims took place in 50's and 60's. Nice and fast racetrack, currently closed.

Thx for sharing I can’t get tired of these sounds! I have an F50 story closer to my home (town I grew up in actually) when the F50 was new a young entrepreneur John Carmack in his 20’s at the time got an F50 which was hard to get without past history at the time - Ferrari restrictions. Having it isn’t the whole story. The rest is that he instantly put twin turbos on it and drove it almost daily. When he didn’t he drove is F40! I used to see them around town often. Parked at Blockbuster too no less when he was renting videos 😂. It was awesome. (You should know my town was middle to lower class type place. A Corvette was already special). Not long ago I finally dug up my personal VHS videos that I had of the cars and posted them up on my channel (2 vids he had a 1000hp TR too). For those that don’t know it Carmack created Castle Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake etc. I forgot to mention it was also the highest mileage F50 when he put it back to stock and sold it.
Great videos, crazy to see how he turbocharged the F50 in 1998. My cousins used to play Castle Wolfenstein/Doom also in the late 90s. F50 was also featured prominently on the cover of Need For Speed 2 in 1997 and that game was so far ahead of it's time.

The 4.7L is broken from the same mold as their 3.5L F1 engine that they used in 92. For the most part they just upped the displacement for more torque as the car is a heavier, then made some other changes for emissions and everyday driveability. THis is why the F50 has such a distinctive F1 like note compared to all the other Ferraris.

I believe this is the old main straight at Reims/Rheims which like Spa was a race track made of public roads. Spa became a closed circuit, this one went back to being public roads and the French GP moved elsewhere.
Most people say the F40 is better. Personally I prefer the F50. It’s the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen. A big naturally aspirated V12 so there’s no turbo lag, and it’s the best sound I’ve ever heard come from a car.

I've only seen one they had on display on Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills. It was next to an f40. Awesome.

@maverickWoodstock The F50 is a naturally aspirated engine off the same block and design as the 92(I believe?) Ferrari F1 engine. It quite literally is the exact same engine that came out of the F1 car except they had to meet road restrictions with exhaust and they upped the displacement to increase the torque of the heavier F50 a little bit. Other than that.....it is an F1 engine......and that's why it sounds like one.

This is when Ferrari was made with extreme quality the new ones don’t last anywhere near as long as the f40 and f50 anything made in Europe is no longer good the sound of that f50 melts me every time it’s music to my ears

yes it was a racetrack in the past near Reims in France. it was used for F1 GPs until 1966.

The design is identical minus the camshaft and block size of the 92 F1 3.5L. The only differences after that are displacement, intake, and exhaust limitations for emissions. Obviously the RPMS are cut down as well. The F50 GT1 uses the same exact engine but with less restrictions and is able to rev to 10,500rpm and is only limited by the extra reciprocating mass of the larger displacement. The normal F50 doesn't sound all that different from this F50.

@frambesbuckeye I disagree. The F1 engine blocks are made to a completely different design, from a different material and in a different plant to the road cars. The engine in the F50 was designed by the road team - probably with input from the F1 team, and certainly using technology that was pioneered in F1 - as a road car engine from the ground up, not as a modification from an F1 foundation. Also, the F50 in the video has an aftermarket exhaust fitted, hence the wail!

@DeadlyFormula ......which is why you would get the F50 then. The F50 engine is pretty close to the Ferrari F1 car. It's the same block. They only changed displacement in hope of increasing the torque some.

F40 was enzo, someone who didnt sell the company to ford the last second because of something in the deal he didnt liked regarding racing. F50 is a do-whatever-for-the-sales machine. U decide which one people would like.

I never had mine dyno'd.
I remember running at about 40, stomping the gas and spinning the front tires.
I bought mine completely stock and naturally aspirated. I found a turbo kit online that came with a stage II turbo and intercooler. High flow fuel injectors, reprogrammed ECM, K&N filter, header heat wraps, JET Performance chip..but I don't know that it was doing anything, and some other goodies. I'd b willing to bet there was 400HP at the wheels. I was hitting 60 MPH in 5 to high 4's.
Its called the Circuit de Gueux. in Reams. They used to have the F1 there.

The F50 is got to be top 3 best sounding cars ever. I still want to know what the owner of the F50 did to make it sound like that! I think i read somewhere that he had the engine tuned back to the original F1 spec rather than the F50 spec which was quite de-tuned...
@Wayne8642 F50 has a V12 and F40 has a V8 Twin turbo. That's why they sound so different and F50 sounds like F1.

ooooooh this is an old french racetrack that mike hawthorn and emanuel fangio had an epic battle on for a couple 100 laps.....its been broken apart to a public road now
i cant decide what's better...the sound of the f40 accelerating or the sound of the overrun when the driver takes his foot off the pedal :D
