    I was a dental assistant for over 45 years working with specialists and general practices. Two of the biggest mistakes I saw constantly in providing this type of work was only veneering from 3-3 (eye tooth to eye tooth), and making them too white. When the patient smiled it was obvious what work was done. All teeth showing in the wide smile should be treated and match the colour of the natural bottom teeth if they are not getting treated as well (which could include bleaching as well). I have no patience for poorly advised dentistry. You Sir are spot on with your advice and approach and should be lecturing to general dentists (if not already).

    • @nefisetopcu6628

      Yes exactly true, all teeth must be the same colour, having only the front teeth done white makes it even worst, better don’t have them done at all, a good dentist must tell you this, if he doesn’t, means he works only for money

      I wish there were harsher penalties for predatory dentists advising unessasary aggressive procedures. The physical damage that can be inflicted can last years. After one of these, I was terrified to go to another dentist for years.

It’s not about look for me but as I have aged and only have 18 teeth I need to preserve what I have and now finding I’m watching what I eat so what’s your view on composite v porcelain? I have severe needle phobia so I will get gas for what ever but which would be a better option for strength? Thanks 😊

    I have two bonded teeth in front that were completed in 1995. I maintain them with 2x/year cleanings and polishing and they still look amazing. I would be hesitant to get porcelain when they are very expensive and require grinding down of virgin, healthy teeth. Bonding (composite) quality has also improved during the 26 years after I got them, and I would reconsider having the procedure repeated on other teeth as well. Good video 👍

      Most dentists don't want to do bonding because they don't make as much money. If they have Cerec in their office the machine does all the work and they can get the machine paid off. They also don't use as good materials for bonding that they used in back 1995.

    I have worked in the Dental Industry for 30 years and have 4 Upper Anterior Composite Veneers which are 18 years old and have not discoloured or chipped at all, and look as good as they did the day I got them. If done properly but a great clinician and with a good quality composite, there is no reason why they can’t last a long time…..do not agree with the 3 - 5 years lifespan that is suggested here. Preserving healthy tooth structure was important to me, and I did not want to trim my teeth at all, so adding to my teeth was a better treatment option. And when they need replacing, only the composite is removed and more added….where as with porcelain veneers, the teeth will need to be trimmed a little more….not a lot, but still some. I’m definitely team Composite Veneers…..go get them 👍🏽

    • @denversd9919
      @denversd9919 2 роки тому +10

      Totally agreed with you adding is better then removed but your composite veneers last very long bc you work there know them so they put more effort in for you specially. But regular patients then the results are hit and miss I think

    • @mandiigraham1596
      @mandiigraham1596 2 роки тому +6

      I don’t agree that because one works in a dental surgery that they get better treatment. This persons composite veneers have lasted because she has the knowledge of how to look after them. Working in the industry you see so much neglect even after you give comprehensive instruction of what you can and can’t do on e you get them, but the general public sometimes just lets that slide. As an example; you shouldn’t be using veneered front teeth to meat off bones, chew pens, open hair pins, drink and eat high staining foods or hard biscuits etc. Not that you can’t but but probably shouldn’t as this can weaken the perimeter of the veneer. On a more clinical note it also depends on the surface area covered by the veneer. I could go on and on. But I am sure your bored by now. Even though I’m retired I am still passionate about good dentistry and care. Happy smiling .

      Fantastic video and I’ve watched many. I still can’t find the answer to my situation. My 8 lower teeth are chipped and my upper teeth are not. Eight teeth show when I smile on my upper teeth and very little of my lower teeth. My lower teeth need to be corrected and lengthened. My upper teeth could also be longer. I’ve seen pictures where just the upper is done in a porcelain veneer and bottom left alone. Did not like that. I want my upper and lowers to be the same color ( my teeth are pretty white) and to be made longer. So am I looking at 16 porcelain veneers? I just started with a new dentist who I feel doesn’t have much expertise yet in doing this. Your thoughts would be appreciated. I’m 70 years old and have straight white teeth with chipping on the bottom. I had an appointment for a wax up to show me what they would look like but cancelled it. Just don’t know who to turn to and porcelain veneers are very expensive here.

    Very helpful explanation! Thank you. I'm considering composite veneers aka dental bonding to correct small teeth - I also have a very large gap in between my left canine & first premolar (can fit an whole tooth in between in due to previous improper ortho. treatment along with small teeth). So it is a complex case.
    Crowns are aggressive. Veneers are extremely expensive. Composite isn't an optimal [permanent] material, though it's much more cost effective - though, it's a great temporary fix. So, it's likely what I feel I'd like to go for, but I'm very much so considering. Veneers would likely mean trimming; which isn't good either in the long haul.

      Hi I recently had my front 8 top teeth done with composite veneers and they were £10,800. I live in UK. I'm very pleased with the look of them as my teeth were horrible. I saved for YEARS to get them done. I'm very happy with the look but now I'm kinda wishing I had gone abroad as they will only last 5-8 years... I'm going to have to save like crazy all my life as they'll need constant replacing!!! I wish I had gone for porcelain as they won't stain and they'll last longer.

Just sits on top of bottom teeth. Dentist said nothing can be done. Also said, because I was 64, a good clean and polish would be good enough for me. NOTE: when I first saw a dentist with the start of the bruxism [over 7 years ago], he said he couldn't do anything until I stopped teeth grinding. He NEVER mentioned anything like splints, which I'm now aware of. Sorry for raving on. Just sad that something could have been done earlier. from Tewantin Qld.

    There are many options to restore or change a shape of "social teeth". Composite veneer with minimal or no-drilling that is made of nanohybrid composite material (it is also called Enamel, discovered by an Italian dentist) reflects light in the same way as our natural enamel, its cheaper than porcelain/ceramic or zirconia veeners. A good dentist will polish them properly, give some final touches to make them look naturally. They are more resistant to staining than microhybrid composites, they do not or almost dont shrink so they look nicely longer...and finally stronger than older generation composites like Gradia, filtek etc. The best (but mainy for posterior teeth - molars and second premolars -5th tooth) monolithic, solid zirconia crowns bonded on a healthy roots. Can last even from quater of century to lifetime (if the remaining, filed tooth is healthy (nutrtion is THE MOST important)

So, on those margins of $800 to $3,500 per tooth, the question begs, Dr Sim, can you give us those quality and price points that are invisible to the layman, to the art eficionado? I mean, outside of those patients walking out deliriously happy, no matter the price, I'm thinking Frankfurt, Prague. Reuben, please! Tell me why abroad isn't the right choice....

    You explained this so well. This week I had composite bonding to close a very small gap between my front teeth ion an otherwise perfect smile. I had it done before about 12 years ago and it lasted 10 years before eventually coming off. My teeth underneath were fine so I waited a few years before having it redone. It was a very minor gap. So I finally decided to have it redone and had it done by another doctor at the same practice. He said he had to rough up the surface to get it to adhere. I don't remember that being done before and now I am worried if my teeth underneath have been shaved down or if they opened the gap further for some reason before putting the bonding on. I never knew this was going to happen so he had already started when I began to get worried. I just hate the thought of by teeth being damaged or filed down and this bonding coming off some day and having horrible looking front teeth now. If that is the case I would have just lived with this very minor gap. Is there any reason the doctor would grind down perfectly straight and beautiful teeth just to add composite bonding for a tiny gap? It looks good, but the thought of having my teeth underneath damaged has me really upset.

    Thank you so much for this thorough explanation, much appreciated.
    I have been trying to find someone like you in Brisbane who is able to help me and it’s a minefield trying to find reviews to get a dentist who is good at colour matching dental bonding to the tooth. I have been to 4 dentists the past 2 weeks all of which have told me different things and each saying the other dentist is basically incorrect, it’s disheartening and confusing. I just want a nice white even coloured smile and can’t afford to continue seeing dentists, particularly given I’m a pensioner (full time carer) and consults are eating up my savings that took me years to save to get some dental work so I can freely smile again. If anyone here sees this can they recommend a good dentist in Brissy who knows how to remove dental bonding from gum to mid tooth and match new bonding to my white teeth below so it looks seamless and without a noticeable join line to due to colour disparity? I’m so desperate as I get one shot at it for many years so don’t want this line again I got years ago from a dentist., please help.

      @@SRM2025 It is extremely frustrating. We see allll of these UA-cam videos where dentists work like Houdini. I've seen some of the worst cases and they MAKE it happen for that person. Then it's like when we go and look " oh no that's impossible" One thing id suggest is to go online and look unfer "top rated cosmetic dentistry-in your area" go on the. Site before even going. See exactly what type of work they do. It can be very confusing however overtime I've learned that each and every dentist office varies greatly in regards to what variety of procesures are done. There are general dental offices, they cover cavities, crowns, braces, dentures, cleaning and exams. Then there are those who go up a notch and do surgical procedures, such as root canals, or tooth extractions where the nerve root has been greatly affected, and both restorative, preventative. Then there are offices that focus

      I'm in Ipswich and feel the same. I'm going to talk about veneers with my dentist (as I cannot afford porcelain) but I am also wondering if country dentists would be cheaper than those that work almost like a factory (with so many dentists in the one surgery). Please let me know if you find someone good as we live very close together.

    The good thing about composite veneers is that if the tooth breaks it can be fixed the next day in 30 minutes. But when a porcelain veneer breaks (accidental fall or injury) you have to replace the whole thing! And pay a lot of money and waiting time maybe a few weeks to make it.

The only thing I don’t like about them is they never feel smooth like my natural back teeth and food sticks to them more and they do not shimmer in the light like porcelain do. My dentist didn’t give me a lot of information about composite veneers before i got them.

    But what about people with hypersensitive teeth, thin enamel, front tooth micro crack that gives nerve pain when air hits it hard or cold water, I’ve asked dentists in a few countries am I good candidate and how to fix it, one said I can’t do veneers the other said I can do veneers and then I was told I can do a root canal on my tooth to stop the nerve pain. I did one root canal over another dentist who said I can’t be fixing my teeth while pregnant so right after pregnancy I fixed it and it was so bad and cracked and I landed myself in a hospital with autoimmunity of hashimotos thyroditis over taking all these medications freshly post parting, it was a nightmare and I still damn that dentist who said I can’t fix my teeth while pregnant as the opposite side of the world I’m told fix all your teeth while pregnant and make sure not to touch them for a year after having a baby to allow body to heal. Anyway, thousands of dollars later and with a dental implant I am confused who the hell to ask about my teeth anymore 🤷‍♀️😅 there’s good dentists in Miami and there’s seriously some who shouldn’t practice, good experience for fraction of the price in Latvia, and fantastic experience in Iceland, Australia sounds as a good trick and this dentist sounds assuring!

    • @linamarie84
      @linamarie84 3 роки тому +2

      They are unable to do veneers if you have absolutely no enamel. They have to shave off a layer - enough to attach the porcelain or composite resin. I'm sure you have some enamel! It's always worth a try! It also depends how much they need to take off to attach the veneer. Veneers are meant for the front and or back of the tooth to protect from sensitivity. Always try :) if it's something you want you never know what can happen ;)
