Pranav Prakash I want to be scared when I watch horror; not panicked. Panicking is for when you’re watching a thriller. The two genres are similar and have elements in common, but they are distinct.
Because it's like Pavlov's dog. The audience has been conditioned to react to that sound in a specific way. You could probably play the sound while showing an adorable kitten and people would still jump. Kind of depressing or even a little creepy if you think about it too much. What else have we been conditioned to do in front of a screen?

Say what you want about the Prequels, but you can't deny that John Williams did an excellent job with the music to convey the sadness of watching the fall of the Jedi.

I'd say theft would hands down be the most popular. A lot of people would speed and get into car crashes. Murder would be the least likely, just because it's legal doesn't mean everyone would lose their moral compass.

One major thing always bugged me. Apparently assisting with peace for the year, clean up of undesirables and whatnot. But what about the massive mourning, outrage and revenge that would happen days, weeks, months after? Your house was burned down, your belongings stolen, you had dear ones who were tortured, raped and killed, apparently you are totally dandy with that and resume life as normal? How are you suppose to act around the neighbors, community members, classmates, coworkers or whomever afterward when you know what they did to you the night before? It's just not realistic, people would never act like that. No magical off switch. Trauma and sorrow happen heavily after things like war, genocide, natural disasters, famine etc that last generations. Sociological, psychologically, even economically (I mean, geez, if a dozen of your workforce gets butchered and need to hire and retrain, or simply losing your best and brightest that could improve society) not logical. And the matter of managing all those corpses. And blood, body fluids and guts splattered everywhere imagine the disease concerns and hazards. And apparently homeless are so passive they just wait around without protest for the purge to start, for years and years. Not to mention the messed up understanding of how the human psyche works and how real psychopaths actually act and behave.
And of course other buttload of problems and nonsense that people already and logically brought up which I won't annoyingly repeat. 👍
I know many movies require some belief suspension, but this is just waaayyyy too beyond to be able to actually settle in, relax and let it all go. It's too irritating. Maybe in the premise was more realistic and thought out, it has potential to be something eerie instead of just a violent typical bloodfest with personal unoriginal preachy agendas thrown in.
AntigoneIvy why would everyone not take a road trip to Canada/Mexico with all your valuables and get the best insurance you can afford during the night of the purge?

clearly you didn't watch the 2nd or third.........Still haven't captured the anarchy that is assumed, this is one of the few honest trailers which I believe is completely accurate, in saying that they show you just enough to make you think in the next one they might fully realize the potential.

+Zach Gerrity you're thinking way too highly of this films! this is an action/thriller series, they made the government the antagonists because everyone hates the gov to draw attention to the films, but ultimately it's an action series. They won't go outright with the "killing all the minorities" plot, because they won't know how to tastefully handle that.

It is an enormous missed opportunity in that they did lack the tact or downright care to really delve in to the subhect matter and instead pander to the wider audience. I hope the next film they purge the licensing office and the series and intellectual properties are lost like roman text.Or give it 20 years for that reboot if America doesn't go Rome's way in equal step.
