I still have one of Dan's guitar picks from the very first MTV Headbanger's Ball Tour. It was April 14th, 1989 in Dallas, with Exodus and Helloween, I was screaming my ass off on the front row and when he threw the pick it landed in my mouth - which is probably the only reason I got out without loosing it. This revelation brings a whole new appreciation for one of my favorite Anthrax tunes, Got The Time. Thanks for all the good times, Dan.
Gregory Davis I think he wanted to spend time with his two young sons who have autism, and touring and recording with the band didn’t allow him to give his children the time and care they needed
Co-founded one of the biggest metal bands ever, joined an elite watchmaking school in Switzerland, and now works in a secret lab in Grand Central Terminal. Badass.
Love this! This is what happens when passion meets technique, and Spitz has always had that fire. Plus, I love seeing metal folk doing the nerdy things they love. I love metal and I'm a librarian! LOL
I can attest to the fact that Danny's good with his hands. He beat me up on my front lawn when we were kids - maybe 10 or 12. Elite watchmakers are probably more rare than elite guitarists. Congrats to him on a phenomenal achievement.
Always thought Danny was a great guitarist, perfect blend of technique wizardry and feeling, all his solo's were awesome but loved his solo on Who Cares Wins, you're one of the reasons why I picked up a guitar Dan! you're the best.
Dan seems like such a cool dude!!! I would love to sit back and listen to some of the stories he has to tell. Good for him for chasing his dreams, no matter where they lead him!!!!
I'm so happy to see him again! He's such a loving man to the fans! Heck, he even says he hates calling us "fans", he prefers to call us "part of Anthrax family".
"Is a feeling of euphoria…". Damn! How I love that song! Favorite song from that album. Be all, and you´ll be the end all, life can be a real ball… state of mind euphoria!
$50K and up for a watch! Wow. I mean, good for him if he can sell them. I can only choke out the few hundreds I've spent on CDs, tickets, and merchandise. I'd love a Dan Spitz watch, but I get that they are luxury timepieces. How lucky for anyone who owns one of these! They're gorgeous!
The most complicated watch I'm aware of has some 2800 parts; the Vacheron Constantin Reference 57260. Master watchmaker Mr. Spitz mentions that he sometimes work with watches with up to 4000 parts. If possible, a few examples (or just one example) of these watches would be fantastic to hear about. Thanks!
One can only wonder what personal time piece has more parts than the Vacheron Constantin Reference 57260 pocket watch (2826 parts, developed over eight years, released in 2015 and weighing 2.56 pounds (957 grams)). Considering the component part count of these time pieces: Vacheron Constantin - Celestia Astronomical - 514 parts F.P. Journe - Sonnerie Souveraine - 582 parts Patek Philippe - Sky Moon Tourbillon - 686 parts Breguet - Marie Antoinette - 823 parts Vacheron Constantine - Tour de l'Ile - 834 parts A. Lange & Sohne - Grand Complication - 867 parts Patek Philippe - Henry Graves Jr Supercomplication - 920 parts L.Leroy - Leroy01 (La Lucie) - 975 parts Patek Philippe - Star Caliber 2000 - 1118 parts Patek Philippe - Grandmaster Chime 5175R - 1366 parts Patek Philippe - Grandmaster Chime 6300G - 1366 parts Jaeger-LeCoultre - Hybris Mechanica à Grande Sonnerie - 1472 parts Franck Muller - Aeternitas Mega 4 - 1483 parts Patek Philippe - Calibre 89 - 1728 parts Vacheron Constantin - Reference 57260 - 2826 parts perhaps Dan Spitz is working on a commissioned time piece surpassing the part count of the Ref. 57260. At the beginning it appears he's servicing a Rolex 'Daytona' with the 4030 caliber (before Rolex used their in-house 4130 caliber that had several improvements). Later it looks like he's servicing a Parmigiani Fleurier 'Toric Chronograph' with the 400Z caliber. Both calibers are based on Zenith's El Primero caliber 400. I'm just wondering what he's doing at 1:54. Shouldn't the movement be dismantled instead of yanking at that (problematic?) component? If you ever get the chance to visit Copenhagen, Denmark try to search out Jens Olsen's World Clock, which has 15,448 parts. /watch?v=D_YEfJaDnjQ
I always wondered why he left makes total sense . If hes as good a Watch Maker as he is a Guitarist then hes pretty fucking good !! Thanks for all the Great Music I had to learn Dan killer Riffs and Solo's !!
I've always been sort of disappointed that Danny left Anthrax, but he had everything settled down and now even makes probably way more money as a world-class watchmaker! Huge respect to this guy.
Cranston Coke Nah he made millions in his band and watchmakers usually make 40-80K a year, but it’s my dream job so I’d choose it over being a millionaire any day
LoL. I'm one year older than Danny and went to the same high school - Tappan Zee. I remember seeing him in the hallways, but I didn't know him. You couldn't miss him back then with the rock and roll long hair. I love Anthrax, metal in general, and especially love the fact that he's doing what he loves. From one engineer to another - God bless, Danny.
He went from Metal Thrashing Mad to Watch maker extrodinare. He is now making the Persistence of Time. Tick tick tick ticking in my head. But watches are still Metal.🤘 I do miss him not being in Anthrax anymore. And his Tenage Mutant Ninja turtles guitar.. Does he still own his guitars ? And does he still play ?
All his iconic guitars are given to Hard Rock Cafe. They could be anywhere in the world right now. And yes, he still plays guitars but probably as a hobby only. (I saw his wife's post on Instagram a few days ago and I could hear someone's playing a stringed instrument so I assumed it's him)
Dan’s amazing, and his brother Dave is just as diverse in skills, he played bass on arguably the most underrated Black Sabbath album “Seventh Star” and works as a lawyer!
Working on watches and clocks is fun and the wonderful thing is that they don't require batteries and will work forever, or thereabouts, if you care for them.
How could his fingers did so fast as the lightning while he did guitar solo and did so cool calm movement while he touched the watch parts in a row Then it's a wow.....
Did you not watch (no puns intended) he is a third generation watchmaker, his father and grandfather are both watchmakers. He started when he was 8. Makes complete sense

ANTHRAX was never one of my favorite bands, but despite the contempt I had for Scott Ian, Bello, Belladonna and their Bermuda shorts I always admired the talents of Danny and Charlie Benante.
good god..... fooling around with tweezers with a watch, that would be crazy, but i guess it would be like an engine in a vehicle just really really REALLY small

Kind of suits him. He always looked so calm during soloing, didn't even move an inch while he played. :D
Truly a man of concentration and precision.

Not a freak - purely fantastic to work on so much beauty in such a small space.
