So I was wondering, could you give me some hints on where to find it? Nothing direct - I'm thinking more like a pointer to the weapon's general vicinity.
I find it interesting how everyone is constantly arguing about whether the prequels are good or not, but everyone still seems to love the individual elements of each movie!
@@Whitecroctbh the arguments revolve mostly around midichlorians which doesn’t exist, and the dialogue which is corny, and finally Hayden’s interpretation of Anakin which is theoretically accurate, but is rather dry because of it. Other than that it’s pretty good.

The best thing about it is that it actually has that “fools guard” useage where if you use the heavy input at the right time, you usually end up jumping completely over an enemy’s attack and you can hit them with a really high damage counter attack.

I searched for "fencing term for moving before you meant to" or in both of these cases, confusing your opponent by _appearing_ to do things in an unusual way or out of step.

I gasm every time you talk about the Fools Guard 😫 Such a beautiful but underutilized guard in videogames, really wish it was a mainstreamed "increase Agro" Guard; yet I can only vaguely recall of 2 instances of seeing it.
Honestly devs should really look at historical manuals to inspire their animation. Ghost of Tsushima had a cool take on this by incorporating the various styles/stances that I think would be awesome in other games!

You need to understand that this fabulous tinman isn't exactly fighting ordinary human, so side stance with a big swing opening is for more monstrous kind of opponents
This is exactly how I use it! Since the jumping thrust is great for dodging attacks for a massive punish, I use wing stance to bait out an attack that I dodge with the jump and take out half their health. Great to see it would be use irl in the same way (albeit without the flashy jump dodge)!
I feel like a lot of Elden ring stuff is impractical in a way that’s more explained by tarnished being stronger than average humans than them just trying to look cool. I cannot rule out that showboating is the primary reason for this though, I’m sure the black knife beam is just as effective with a quick swipe as that ridiculous flip move.
all dark souls protagonists are ridiculously powerful. Some people tried to figure how strong the DS3 protag is. That is ROUGHLY as strong as some incarnations of superman.

I feel like it's capable of executing well-timed parries in general, which presents more potential advantages over parrying with the tip, though distance control could become a bit of a problem. On the flip side, an open centerline like this could make the opponent feel the need to heavily commit to strikes, especially if they're not a very reactive fencer. I'd need some sparring with this to know for sure, though. It also reminds me of some Italian rapier guards I've seen in the past.
I’ve done something similar in rapier sparring, it can work if you manage to time the counter correctly. Very hard to read as well as it doesn’t target a specific line.

the light greatsword with the wing stance is SO fun. it might be one of my favorite weapons and playstyles in the game. I am also a big fan of the AoW: Square off. But I'm not a huge fan of straight swords, I'm more of a greatsword kinda guy. I really wish there was a greatsword equivelent to square off, or wing stance as they are really cool and fun

The stance works even better with the full armored character depicted. That much armor with that stance is a silent invitation saying, "F around and find out".
That stance shows confidence in one's ability in combat. It provides the opponent with the length, as well as the identity of the weapon. Only a villain would do that!
considering the size of the bears in the land of shadows, i think this stance might be to increase your visual profile and scare away potential predators
Reminds me of a a martial arts technique. From a guarded stance if someone comes at you, you open your arms up, take a step back so they whiff, then slap/grab their arms out of the way as you go in to strike back. With a sword you can get a pokey pokey.
It reminds me a lot of the illustrations on manuals of Verdadera Destreza, where the radius of reach is demonstrated with basically that pose (expand arm and sword so the tip is as far from your center of mass as posdible). Of course this was more often with the tip towards the enemy, since the point was to calculate how far you can strike without lunging. But I could see someone doing it to the side to remind himself while taunting the enemy.
I guess thats why malenia is so fucking cool. That intro cut scene always give me chills. No fancy fancy particles. Just voicelines and her menacing aura and the similar way holding her swords

He literally holds it to purposely leave himself looking as vulnerable as possible, but his own style is built to take advantage of that fact and create openings for himself, what a lad 😂❤
Apparently I have been doing the broad ward in blade and sorcery vr and didn't know it was a historical move. It's worked for me for years in fights in that game with short swords and long swords particularly and that's kinda hype.
The broad ward also seems useful, it kinda plays a trick on our depth perception as we can’t tell how close the point is to us making a stab quite dangerous from this position, in addition to the fact that it conceals the weapons length.
I do like the open-mindedness when it comes to these analyses. It would be easy to dismiss a lot of videogame design choices as purely fictional and impractical, but you've done an amazing job at comparing it to legitimate techniques and possible inspirations for the designs. To me it indicates a strong understanding of the intentions of the developers and of the medium itself.
As to the intimidation and superiority, well... Melenia's pre-combat stance is almost identical to this, just with her blade held lower. And 'intimidating and superior' definitely apply to her.
As an amateur fencer, I've won some bouts against even a varsity team by doing something similar. Except, instead of it being an open invitation, I feigned it being a poor stance. It's worked way more than it should have. Once the initial suprise wears off, i find being more open about it made the opponent more cautious. It really does work (unless the opponent is 100% confident they'll tear you apart)
In PVP i find it works quite well, with the issue being that it leaves you open if you can't get the hit, in the case of the light attack it's beforehand, and with the heavy its afterwards. Very fun to play with.
I would like to note the other arm of our character here, if your like me and like using shields, wing stance almost perfectly places the shield in a location where you can quickly react, perhaps wing stance was made to be used with a shield, but idk I just use it because it looks cool

This is now my favorite weapon in Eldon ring and it is super fun to approach invaders menacingly with that stance and see what they will do
