It's a civil case, not criminal. Legally it's the term that is used. You could say it's merely semantics, but it just boils down to whether or not they can prove a certain amount of liability (civil cases) vs. whether or not someone is guilty beyond reasonable doubt (criminal cases)
So, the jury decided that he assaulted her (the battery) and sexually "abused" her. If you are assaulting someone while sexually "abusing" them... you are sexually assaulting the person. They also decided he defamed her.

It's a civil case, not criminal. Legally it's the term that is used. You could say it's merely semantics, but it just boils down to whether or not they can prove a certain amount of liability (civil cases) vs. whether or not someone is guilty beyond reasonable doubt (criminal cases)
