    It's a major flashback for me from when I was running with the pack on my Ski-Doo Elan.
    It's sound alone was great to hear again.

    i had a 1973 moto ski and it was sitting for about 10 to 15 years and started third pull after priming it

    Mine is actually a 299 from an olympic and it is pretty tight with no decompressor - you just gotta put your back into it!
    if your starter is in good condition it will engage very quickly - but yes you have to wait until it engages a little in order to pull. when i keep pulling it is actually easier because the motor is still turning when i pull it.

    Good sled and handles the pow well. Last year my brother snapped the metal ski on my vintage cat, but I didn't really pitch too much into fixing. But I got so desperate to ride vintage so I fixed the ski and the thing is cleated right, so when I drove it out of the shop you should of seen the crud on the snow it was crazy

    Hey Ishobie
    1-what you do to the carburetor for summer? Because I always have to rebuild the carb of mine every winter.
    2- what oil mix u put in it because my owner's manual write 20/1 but I have problems with the spark plugs and head carbonisation.

    Did you mean replace the coils going to the spark plugs or the coils on the stator plate?

    Always use a "Bosch" spark plug in a single Elan.225,240,or a 260 at the very hottest.A 280 or a 300 and it will run like crap...!!! (i recommend a 240)...!!!

    Hey powermodz. I bought my first arctic cat today. Its a 2005 f5, it seems to take a lot of pulls to get it started. Idk if it could be old gas or what but any ideas on what it is or how to fix it?

    • @Aspired329
      @Aspired329 7 років тому

      Congrats, the EFI version should start in 2-5 pulls (normally about 3). The carb might take a bit more tinkering (get used to how it likes to start) or few more pulls but should be close you'll just have to keep her running while it warms up. How my pulls is a lot, over 20? I'd drop a post over on arctic chat with more details in the firecat forums. They should help you in a more suited format that UA-cam. Yes though siphon out all the gas, put in fresh fuel and drop in new plugs would be the starting point. If there is a inline fuel filter also replace that also (think just on the carb, the smart valves also filter on the EFI and can collapse on themselves in time. Start with the basics and hope don't have to go much further.

      Aspired329 thank you. We drained the gas out. Put fresh gas in. We did not change the plugs. Today its 26 degrees out and im having trouble getting a full pull out of the pull start.

      First, these skidoos don't like regular gas, especially the ones from the 70's. Use 90 octane or more. Second, check your spark plugs. If the engine starts but you feel like you have to push it to make it actually travel, then chances are you are running on one cylinder. An easy way to check this is to lift the hood and examine the manifold/muffler system, If one of the "exhaust tubes" coming out of a piston chamber is wet with gas (as opposed to dry with exhaust) then you have a lazy spark plug. Take it out, clean it off with brake parts cleaner or varsol and dry it, and either replace it or (if you are cheap like me and a long way from a parts store) try putting the cleaned plug back in and see what happens.
