I’ve been enjoying your videos for the past few days. I know they say these guards aren’t tourist attractions, but they are so different in terms of looks when it comes to an officer. If that makes sense. They are nice to watch from a distance. They should be respected though. Some people are very rude to these guards. A simple thank you would go a long way when taking a picture of them. I know they can’t say anything back, but it at least shows them that the person who took the picture is a decent human being with respect.
You're absolutely right about saying thank you, though. That's just how you have a basic normal and polite interaction with another human, but I'm afraid many of those very dim and entitled tourists can't even do that.

Most swag I have ever seen in a guards steps, that head piece was swinging. He’ll get better with his steps over time for sure! The horse was cute hugging him like that though.

I do admire their riding riding skills however by any standards their basic drill technique is well below what it should be, watch closely when these guards come to attention and or left or right turn their feet are not aligned as they should be, they need a lot more work.
Kudos to the horses who just stand there! It's bad enough for the soldiers, no doubt, but they understand the importance of their duty! I wonder if the horses have a level of understanding too 🤔
They're swapped out every hour and those guards on foot go out specifically every 20 minutes to see if the rider or horse need anything. If a horse was showing signs of distress, the foot guard would take over and the horse guard would take the horse out. An hour is still a long time, but with so many tourists about and their level of training, I doubt the regimental horses are bothered standing around for an hour. They wait in the troopings and parades for much longer.
The horses trust their rider. If the rider is calm the horse will be relaxed and happy. Duty is a human thing, but it's very likely that each horse will at least feel protective towards it's rider, so that's the best I can tell you.
@@christinerigal6097 you do realise that when they aren't on ceremonial duty, they're on active duty in Afghanistan or Iraq or wherever else they get posted. They are not tourist attractions, they are keeping up 100s, if not 1000s of years of dignified tradition. Something I doubt the french would understand
I thought he looked pretty poor. Like he was trying to be all military in bearing but maybe the boots aren't broken in and he just doesn't have the gliding step. Also seems unsure of himself about how and when to execute the stomp. Not trying ti diss him, some of the people performing these duties may have been called upon in the pinch and he may not be quite trained up to it, but is doing the best he can.

As a soldier then officer with 30 years service, I am staggered at the slovenly drill exercised by these military representatives. More so given their exposure to the general public. I'm 75 now but could definitely put on a better show.
They are not performers at a circus. They are front line battle trained military. They may have returned from overseas duty the week before. On the front lines the soldiers practice these manoeuvres in their off time. A number of the men carrying the Queen’s coffin from Balmoral had just returned from active service the week before. They are not just show ponies. They are real soldiers.

Queen Elizabeth kept it going when that 100 year order expired. That’s what I meant when I wrote I hope he keeps it going.
They are 😅officers that are doing their job by guarding the entrance to the palace very much like the soldiers that guard the tomb of the unknown soldier in Washington DC. Step out of line and you will know they are soldiers and they mean business.
I remember seeing one of these guards back 37 years ago. Me being only 5ft tall, I was impressed with his towering height and the presence he had about him. Can’t remember if I got a photo before he turned foot and went to the other end of the walkway. There weren’t any other tourists around so they must have a bus that’s pulled up in these videos? But also, I don’t recall any of this weird foot stomping that seems to throw most of these ones off balance and makes it look like a waddling parody/theatre show for the tourists. I was intimidated by the guard I saw, but these ones look like they’d start crying if sh*t went down 😂 🤭That’s a bit mean, but they don’t look like they could do much all kitted up like that anyway.
These guys are guarding at Horse guards parade, just down the street from the Prime ministers house and Trafalgar square, so there's almost always tons of tourists there. The foot stomping is also part of British Army drill, when they come to attention, turn etc they will stomp. These guys are part of an armoured regiment who will drive light tanks when deployed.

He must be TA or the Army has relaxed the BFT and CFT fitness requirements since I was a Sapper. Put it this way if you weighed him in for scrap you could probably by a new Bridge Layer.

The walking guard was actually setting the two on horses up. They cannot talk to each other during that time, so they recruited him. He asked her first, then went to tell the other guy when the date was happening.

Horses do stomp their feet , they stomp their feet when an insect is irritating them and by stomping they try to get rid of the pest insect. When Horses are angry or frustrated by someone they paw at the ground and get antsy because of the stress.

The horses and Guards are so patient with the tourists ( who almost always appear a bit dim and bad mannered) but can anyone tell me - what is with all the stomping that the Guardsmen (and women) do? it part of the drill. when you stop, stamp feet. turn around, stamp feet stand to attention or at ease, stamp feet. just a military thing. shows good training

The marching of the cavalry would keep the soldiers from losing interest, keeping their minds active, and at the same time the sound of their feet stomping would frighten the people they were about to attack. It was very evident after decades of not seeing a parade of the likes at Her Majesty’s funeral parades how powerful marching is. The quietness of the crowd and the marching footsteps in unison on the road were haunting. Something that we have never seen or heard.An absolute passage back to the origins and reasons for these traditions. Watch it and you will be moved. The training and dedication by thousands of people is just stupifying.

Horses do stomp their feet , they stomp their feet when an insect is irritating them and by stomping they try to get rid of the pest insect. When Horses are angry or frustrated by someone they paw at the ground and get antsy because of the stress.

First off - love your videos! The horses and Guards are so patient with the tourists ( who almost always appear a bit dim and bad mannered) but can anyone tell me - what is with all the stomping that the Guardsmen (and women) do? It must signify something - is it to get attention? Like throat clearing, maybe?
it part of the drill. when you stop, stamp feet. turn around, stamp feet stand to attention or at ease, stamp feet. just a military thing. shows good training

@@mickby1 I suspect it was probably a Roman thing. The marching of the cavalry would keep the soldiers from losing interest, keeping their minds active, and at the same time the sound of their feet stomping would frighten the people they were about to attack.
It was very evident after decades of not seeing a parade of the likes at Her Majesty’s funeral parades how powerful marching is. The quietness of the crowd and the marching footsteps in unison on the road were haunting. Something that we have never seen or heard.An absolute passage back to the origins and reasons for these traditions. Watch it and you will be moved. The training and dedication by thousands of people is just stupifying.
