For anyone who is interested, I don’t think it takes anything away from the solo to explain the intent behind it:
I’ve been trying to push myself with my left foot time keeping in several directions, most of which are used in the solo (hence, the name (and nod to Dali because who doesn’t love Dali))
In order, what I was trying to improvise over was:
1) left foot straight time with triplet improv over top (kick is the hard part)
2) SWUNG upbeat time keeping (3rd triplet), and alternating between the swung upbeat and the straight upbeat to follow the subdivision of the hands (this is the coolest idea, imo)
3) Metrically modulate hands, making dotted 8th the new quarter, but let the left foot continue at same rate (aka left foot continues playing dotted 8ths in new tempo).
4) improvising out of time while left foot maintains time (trying to still accent every two bars.
5) really slow half note time keeping, which I mess up but, hey it’s hard :)
Thanks for watching, y’all.
Salute to Meinl for all you do for the community.
Brilliant mate!
This is big
Thanks to you for all YOU do for the community, JP.
Excellent work JP! And yes thank you Meinl for the best cymbals in the universe!!!!! Especially that monophonic ride 🤤🤤🤤🤤
JP is just one of those drummers that could solo for 3 hours and never waver in his creativity. And I would watch for that full 3 hours, too.
My god those cymbals... the whole kit really... inject it into my veins
when i first recognised this dude a couple a years ago...i thought he is one of those "over-choped" young drummers...i followed him and his music a couple of years, and today i love to say he is one of the most interesting drummers i have seen! I love his sensitivity and his style, his feeling and he blows me away with his play! Check out his bands and records he is playing on! Brilliant Mr. Bouvet! Chapeau!
He won the 2011 guitar center drum off. He's no kid anymore he's an experienced professional
I revisit all of JP's solos just to build inspiration and see his progression as a musician. Such an interesting guy :)
You know it’s a good solo when you still appreciate it even if you don’t understand anything that’s going on 🤯
JP, you’re on a whole other level man! 🤙
Metronome in each limb... Brilliant.
Jp’s solos and playing are much more refined and matured. He’s seriously always been amazing but he’s reaching new heights with his dynamics and tasteful musical playing.
The monophonic ride has a beatiful crash❤
Love the look on your face from about 2:38 on for about 10-15 seconds. I've been a fan of your for many years and ADMIRE a drummer that LOOKS like he is concentrating as he / she plays. I'm trying to imagine what your brain is saying to you as I see your left foot working the cymbal. GREAT solo JP !
JP only has one day on his calendar, July 4th.
Damn this joke is fire
The most underappreciated drumming joke on the internet folks
best joke ever,,,,,regards from Argentina !
Incredible performance
Love the finesse.
I love the lamp and and that marihuana-cooker in the background
I can't wrap my mind around this.
Ok, my mind's blown... but, Killer tone as always JP!!
Very talented man
So beautiful 😍😍😍
JP is coming back
1. Great Video.
2. Love the colors on the cymbals. Is that due to the chandelier behind JP?
3. That chandelier would look great in my closet. A link to purchase would be appreciated.
ckextreme pretty standard to use red and blue cans for studio/stage lighting
JP got some facials now!! Different feel for you, sounds good!!
OH
Dark horse comment of the century.
my LORD, dude
Drumset after the solo: "I've never felt so used in my life!"
Very skillfull to keep that left foot going all the way! Very musical and Interesting solo. 👍🏾
The only thing I don’t like is that cap under the Vic Firth headphone ...😝
Alastair Taylor
You go ahead and please do your thing
Yo crazy coincidence he actually made one already and sent to me this morning. He made it to my drumeo solo. ערן קרן
@@JPBouvet Thats actually really cool of him! I cant wait to check it out man
I really liked this solo also
Interesting rhythmic development
The influences of both blakey and J dilla
@@JPBouvet Hey, are you satisfied with his work?
Sick
Amazing. I wish he would have thrown a straight 4 4 rock beat in the middle somewhere tho. Just so I could find the down beat lol
I should’ve never given up practicing drums. I want to get back into to it. I’m just not sure how to get this good
Find a good teacher and practice your ass off for 10+ yrs. Easy
Practice, practice, and practice if your not a fast learner then don't rush it, take your time developing your phrases, chops, subdivisions, grooves, timing, tuning, and etc. You'll get there eventually.
Very few people ever get as good as JP. Find a teacher near you and start practicing.
Still waiting to hear de crash....
Dalibor Mraz?😮
Yeahh 🤘🥁🇪🇨
😍😍😍
🥁👍👍👍🥁👏👏👏🥁
I was just dying to hear you break out into an uptempo swing or salsa beat for 10 - 15 seconds... to let that ride open up and wash a bit...
They are expensive cymbals
