@paupur, what you don't seem to understand is, this version of "MISTY" was done in a swing/shuffle tempo, and NOT jazz!!! Remember, there is a jazz tempo of this tune as well! And what makes Larry so very unique, and most CERTAINLY well [placed in the line-up here, is his absolutely INCREDIBLE choice of sweet notes,, notes that most jazz guitarists, WOULD NOT CHOOSE!!! Larry has a very special gift of incredible harmony!!! In fact, that's exactly why Larry sounds so darn INCREDIBLE! IT'S WHY WE ALL GET THE CHILLS LISTENING TO HIM PLAY! And why so many other artists and producers WANT Larry on their recordings! Tell me what Jazz guitarist has over 100 gold records? Or, movie film music credits, television theme song credits as Larry has??? OK!!!! I think the point is very clear,,, Larry spices up Jazz,, where jazz NEEDS to be spiced up,,, and most Jazz guitarists are too pure,, and adhere to typical jazz phrasing, which can become boring indeed, no matter how well played!!!

@kane kure You may have trouble with your ears,, because Larry decidedly chose NOT to be a true jazzer! He's admitted this publicly! Being a session player for years,, and on over a few thousand records (singles and albums) he found HIS OWN SOUND! He was basically the father of "The L.A. Sound"!!! Joni Mitchell, Donald Fagen, Walter Becker, and a hundred other musically gifted writers/ musicians all consider Larry Carlton THE man to hire for that incredible, one-of-a-kind sound on guitar!!! Jazz can be VERY VERY BORING..... I play with a quartet frequently, and because I studied Larry's technique for decades, I can emulate Larry's sound very closely. And every night that I perform I get plenty of compliments on my style and sound. And of course, I proudly acknowledge Larry Carlton, and they all seem to get the same reaction,, they get the chills, or goosebumps! In my 45 years playing guitar, no other player has given me goosebumps/chills.... except Robben Ford~!~ So .... Larry freshens up jazz........ by NOT playing the cliche' licks ...... you must understand that there are a thousand great jazz players, both living and passed on! And with the exception of maybe 10 players, Joe Pass, D'Jango, Ellis. Pizzarelli, Wes, Kessel, Christian etc.,,,, there are no UNIQUE, TRULY UNIQUE players among the thousands of others! One reason why..... because they regurgitate the same riffs and licks and aren't "Carlton-like" in the sense of originality and discovery! Bottom line ........ Larry Carlton is arguably the best OVERALL guitarist/songwriter on the century~!~!~!~

It’s not just swing/shuffle tempo like you mentioned. They are playing it in double time, which is actually very common to swing misty in double time for B3 organ bands.

I've never seen a guitar like Larry's keep changing color. From one angle the bass/treble horns are cherry red, from another they are brown to ice tea color. Very cool paint job!

"No, no, I'll play." "I need to play something." "Wait, how about me?" "You play then me." "No, hey, how about you do it?" "Who will play the head?" "Listen, I want to do a solo." "Don't leave me out." "Who's on first?" JUST PLAY! ! ! !

Pete Diaz what you're seeing, first hand,, is what actually goes on in the studio!!! It takes some time to figure out who plays what, when! Remember,, they're laying a foundation, doing the framing, and then finishing it off! And after all that,,, it has to sound just right!!! But, it is a little funny to watch these pro's act like any one of us!!!

"Just playing" usually ends up sounding like dogsh1. Music is written down or spoken about beforehand when you're a professional lol.

Wow. The absolute atrocity of manners and honor. Where could your mind possibly be when trying to destroy another persons hard work? You should be ashamed of yourself.
I enjoyed watching the video. Guitarist included, He was awesome and his personality adds to the video as well.
I hope you someday learn to appreciate life and music rather than try to demolish it. Support your fellow man rather than try to claw to w/e you're doing.
