Awesome video I am just getting ready to build my chicken coop at my place out in Manitoba Canada I already have 6 chickens that I picked up last week and built a temporary coop that fits in the back of my truck. I look forward to watching your videos and gave you a big thumbs up and subscribed too!
I used to be horrible at building chicken coops. Now I'm really good at it! Here's a great resource that will teach you how to build high quality chicken coops: ChickCoop.club
Great looking coop! I'm really interested in that great looking fence you put up what a brilliant idea. Can you please tell me how much of an area you fenced in a the cost of materials. Awesome video hope to see more soon ty for sharing
We will be getting chickens for the first time ever and I have being watching videos to learn all about chickens and possible ways to design a chicken coop. However, I saw a video from Becky's Homestead in which she say that chickens don't need heaters at all as long as the chicken coop stays dry and does not let in a lot of wind. She say that the way chickens regulate their temperature is by growing more down during cold weather to stay warm just like wearing a jacket and as hot weather comes in, they start to get rid of the down. If this is true, why have a heater?
1) I'm not sure how great of an idea it was to pitch the roof in such a way that rain will pour down on top of you as you collect eggs. I think I woulda done it exactly the opposite, and put the high side of the roof over the egg boxes. But hey, i'm sure you had your reasons for doing that. 2) All the experts say to put a squarish roost, like a 1 x 2 or 2 x 3 up higher than the level of the laying boxes. Once again I'm sure you had your reasons for putting in those branches angling from low to high. They say that such a thing is uncomfortable and unhealthy for chickens feet to use smaller rounder roosting material. Evidently it's difficult for them to sleep and balance on a small round branch. Also, the roosts are supposed to be even all the way across, so the hens wont fight to be at the highest roosting level. Even roosting promotes peace in the flock. 3) There are several spots where small rodents or snakes can get in. I'd close those off before something bad happens. 4) Those laying boxes are super deep, top to bottom. Hope you figured out some way to prop up the lids as you climb down into the boxes to collect eggs. Every laying box I've ever seen is about half that tall. Not trying to insult you or your coop, just pointing out a couple issues you may or may not have discovered since you finished it up.
Thank you for the video. I'm looking to build a coop similar to yours. I do have a question though, at 1:24, how is the ceiling attached to the wall? I don't see any anchors or anything to tie the two together. Great looking four legged supervisors out there too!
A very solid build!! I know it was two years ago but do you remember what the total cost ended up at? I’m wanting to build something similar for my 30 girls.
Cheers for this, been searching for "build own chicken coop" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Machaaldity Coop Blaster - ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my buddy got cool results with it.
Here’s the thing, your coop looked cute design wise till I could see up close. There are far too many openings for rodents and worse to slaughter your birds and allow cold in, rain and then rot. I like the concept, some other things I noticed like the nesting boxes are placed too low, and I’m sure you’ll change out the branches as they mature and grow larger but caution about creating high & low perching branches as it promotes fighting for dominance. And are you planning on building a screened in run? Lastly, why create a video if your footage is of your dogs and you playing outdoors? Not hating on your fur babies, I adore my own but the point to this video as it’s advertised under “build chicken coops” indicated this was a build video. Then when you finally do show any of the build besides just pics, you film the nesting boxes as you skin them with bead board 🤦🏻♀️! The parts of this build that’d do any good for viewers would be the framing and then on.
Cheers for this, I been tryin to find out about "chicken hutch for sale" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Machaaldity Coop Blaster - ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it.
