Our biggest and best Craftsman Chicken Coop build ever. This custom coop was installed in Dryden, Michigan, just outside Detroit. It has a 10'x10' henhouse/storage shed combination with a 30' run, bringing the overall footprint to 10'x40'.
This coop has true board and batten and sandwiched walls construction. It has a fully functional cupola and tons of storage inside the henhouse/shed area. It also has the roof line going in two different directions for a great look accented by a bold red door.
There is a heated poultry water system, automatic chicken run door, and plenty of windows for ventilation. Learn about the tips in building this huge custom chicken coop complete with measurements and insights into the build.
This coop also was landscaped afterward by a design from Bethany Latham of Environmental Harmony that incorporated companion planting for chicken foraging. Foodscaping for chickens!

I don't know what I'm doing here but I like it.
Me to
BIg facts, I don't even own chickens or plan on owning any livestock but watched the whole thing
@Zach Galifianakis looking for love in all the wrong places 🎶
Funny what you'll find interesting if you give it try.
Good presentation, nice looking coop.
Me to
an excellent book if you are considering building a shed. While you may not choose to build one exactly as shown in this book ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxT9ExVpR-3A-9rpRqx8vzXKZ3BMMTg_KH , the information found in here would be useful in any shed building project. The information is well presented, with color photos throughout. As was noted in a previous review, though some dimensions are given, the complete plans must be ordered elsewhere. I ordered the plans for the gambrel shed and did notice a few discrepancies between the book and plans however.
It's Cluckingham Palace!
Coop Deville
This should be made into a TV show just like tree house masters, call it Coop masters. Idk why it hasn't yet especially during these times of self sustainability.
We agree and have been approached a few times, but the network bigwigs have yet to pull the trigger. If you have any connections.....😎
Great idea.
Coop kings?
@J Glass Thank you so much for those kind words. We are so happy you are a subscriber too! Thank you.
@bonecollectorpro Koop Kings. It should be with a "K" ya know for fun but love the name😉
Is see people comment that this coop is overkill, etc. When you invest the time into raising healthy chickens, you want them happy
and protected from predators. We have fox, mink, and raccoons, that will make short work of a flock. I love these designs, for their security and ease of cleaning! Five stars in my book!
agreed. This is built to last and will pay for itself over time. Plus, adds value to the overall property.
Thank you for your comments Jeanette. Yes, this coop is very fancy and not something everyone would want built for their chickens. It is predator proof (as all our coops are) and will last a lifetime (like all our coops), and we hope like all our coops, it makes things easier for the chicken keepers. We believe our least expensive to our most expensive coops are worth the investment. The designs are whatever you can imagine! Thanks again for your comments.
@@Donnybrook10 Thank you, we think so too!
Jeanette, it's only overkill for poor people.
Absolutely!! We want our chickens healthy, happy, and well protected.....being as though we get our eggs from them. This is awesome!!
The coop is prettier than my house.
This is stunning, but what I am most enamored by, is the care, respect, & support given for the chickens to breathe, function, be safe, & live & have space. That makes me so happy to see this being promoted, encouraged, & developed.
Thank you so much Mara. That is our goal with every chicken coop we build, no matter how big or small, it's what we aim to do with educating the public on the proper way to keep chickens. Thank you for recognizing that.
Why don't you paint the wood in various colours? Don't chicken like colours?
I’ve raised chickens 4 times in my life and it seems fancy to have a drawer for chicken feed when you hypothetically could have used for chicken roosts. I got a chicken coop that size but not fancy just nest boxes instead of the open hatch idea. If your not interact with chickens 101 they’ll always be skittish.
Love this coop. I would have put a door into run from the coop so you don't have to go in and out to refill the food. Also maybe the nesting boxes inside the coop so you don't stand in the rain collecting eggs. Storage is great. You make the best coops. Beautiful craftsman ship. Well done.
I was thinking the same
Yes, it needs another door!
I have a concrete footing around mine 21/2 feet deep 6 inches wide.
I’m working on the design to build a new coop and really appreciate you took the time to say this. When you start designing it’s overwhelming and so much can be forgotten! Wonderful ideas thanks again!
I couldn't concentrate because the man was just too handsome. 😍 I would want a smaller version of this for my dogs.
leeluv96 he is adorable!
Thank you. I'm sure Matt will be flattered.
Same here, love the beard!
Hmmmm, being a dude I didn't really notice but I just went back to try and see what you saw and you're right, he's a good looking fellow.
@John Palumbo Oh yes, his wallet was bulging quite a bit. He should probably take some things out of it. Sitting on that could cause some unwanted back pain. **wink**
I didn't realize I wanted chickens. This is beautifully built. Well done.
I love that these are designed so we do not have to clean and maintain them bending over, or crawling into a small cramped coop. Much easier and better for our backs.
Thank you Victoria! All our chicken coops are walk-in coops. We strive to make things easier for people who keep chickens.
I like it because it actually looks nice not a Beverly hillbillies coop that makes your property look bad
The coop looks better then most city apartments lol, it’s a very nice place for any conceded chicken.
better than my home, for sure
Seriously though what homesteader can afford that. The cheap ones at tractor supply are 500!
We built ours for under $250. My coop is 6 x 10 and the run is 20 x 10, but my chickens are free range during the day.
They put themselves away at night, I just have to remember to close coop door and and door.
Half my materials are recycled.
We tiled the coop floor for easy cleaning with similar doors.
Do you mean conceited?
Genuinely curious.
I showed my chickens this video. Next day I found a note in the empty chicken coop written in chicken scratch: "We flew'd da coop. Goin' ta Carolina Coops. Sine'd da Chix"
🤣
I appreciate that your roost bars are at the same, equal level, as I believe it helps alleviate alot of bullying in the pecking order.
That's an excellent point and we found that to be the case too. Thank you for watching.
I have never imagined that chickens can live in better conditions then 50% of the humans around the world. In the same time I am glad that there are people who have taught, designed and built those facilities. There is nothing wrong with being a professional. Good for them and good for the chickens!
That is the best coop I've seen. So well made. Beautiful. If I had the money, I'd buy one tomorrow. It would be perfect for me.
Thank you!
Me too!
I know these chickens are gonna have a blast and think they went to heaven!
I’d buy one if…
Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. Love how you guys considered everything for the hens, but also the owners.
thank you. That is exactly what we strive to do.
I don't have chickens as a city dweller but I truly enjoyed this video. I would call this the Rolls Royce of chicken coops. It is a beautiful, well thought out design.
Wow now that’s a chicken coop!🐥🤠
I miss having chickens: it was such a great part of my childhood.
Nothing more American than a chicken coop! Love the Flag flying in the background. I want one!
Not sure I could ever afford to have you come to Missouri and build one of these coops for me but you’ve really outdone yourself. The obvious quality and most of all care you put in your project is amazing. To top it off you clearly explained most every detail of your project. I hope your company prospers. As soon as I come back from my deployment, I’m gonna do my best to build one.
Thank you.
@@CarolinaCoopsVideos I’ve been deployed to the middle east since I commented but it’s my top priority when I come home.
Soldier Snodgrass - Thank you for serving. Appreciate you, bro!! Know you will build a great coop for your future chickens.
well heck, i started building what i called a "chicken coop" a few weeks ago. It's framed like a 8x8 portable shed with a slanted 12x12 roof going from 5 feet tall to 7 feet tall inside the "coop". but i have never raised chickens before. i've been watching lots of videos on chicken coops and how to raise chicks. your 10x40 chiciken house with chicken run definitely helped me figure out how to finish my project. we already have 9 chicks about 3 weeks old here in South Texas. i learned a lot about how to build nest boxes and deep bedding. i love your design.
Thank you so much. We are so glad you picked up some chicken coop pointers watching our videos.
@@CarolinaCoopsVideos I am gonna make a raised area for the roosting area and nesting boxes. the rest of the coop will be a chicken run. eventually i want to be able to let them out and free range every day. otherwise i may build a larger run on the ground for them.
The Chicken Mansion, seriously, how wonderful.
ABSOLUTELY Beautiful! This is the "Classiest" chicken coop I've ever seen! ❤
So many great things about this coop. Can,t tell how much I love the designing and problem solving that went into this.
Thank you.
@@CarolinaCoopsVideos hi, can you put concrete on the ground and place the coop and the run on it so it's not sitting directly on the soil ? wouldn't it be also better against predators ? it would be impossible for predators to dig under it.
Applaud to Carolina Coops!!! 👏👏Now this chicken coop was well thought out, and is brilliant! It's like the penthouse of chicken coops.
Thank you for your compliments!
Love that Flag blowing in the back 🙏🏻🇺🇸
Complete over-kill to us small folk, but craftsmanship and knowledge were Supreme!😊 Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely stunning!!!! You’ve covered every contingent. Now we have no excuses about getting chickens. 👍☺️
I’m a beekeeper, I know nothing about chickens or coops, but I have to say this is one heck of a coop. The design is absolutely amazing and I’m pretty sure the quality is too. If I ever decide to keep chickens, this coop is exactly what I would want for them. Absolutely gorgeous, great, and practical design.
Thank you so much.
GREATcoop and run!
I was looking to build a simple off grid cabin, now I have realised that some chickens live life better than mine!
Man I can live there.
Does anyone else want to be a chicken 🐓 Beautiful Coop 💕🇦🇺💕
Love it been looking around for this style, shed and coop combined. Off to build my own mini version of this.
Thanks for posting 😁
Got my 6'X18' American Coop coming mid to end of November. I wish it was sooner but I know it will be well worth it. Can't wait! My chickens are counting the days. Me too!
Thank you for buying one of our coops and for being patient with us. We know you will love your American Coop! Hopefully you will share photos when you have it all assembled.
Congratulations I’m excited for you 😊
Wow! Pictures please when it is done. We, who follow CAROLINA COOPS, always like to see how they turn out.
@@tinacarmichael5649 Me too. Just wish I didn't have to wait so long
@@toniahand6251 You got it!
Incredible craftsmanship. The fact that you pocket drill all of your connections is astounding. Even at the rafter blocks. True pride of work.
Thank you so much for your comments.
I'm a "city boy" who knows nothing about farming, but that's a Badass coop.....
Thank you Doug! We appreciate that. Thanks for watching
Dems gonna be some EXPENSIVE eggs! Beautiful coop... you could build me a house you do such nice work!
Thank you!
My thoughts exactly🤣😂
Id would rather have an amazing coop than a brand new car anyday
Nice if you can afford all of that. I built mine inside of my pole barn in the corner. it is totally sealed. I use a portable 100 foot Premier 1 electric Poultry fence, and I rotate it into 3 different areas, so the chickens never wear out ant of the areas. It works really well and they always have lots of fresh grass, bugs and worms outside.
Royal treatment for the chickens😮
I'm jealous! I want a chicken coop of my own to live in, lol, XD
Your coops are the best in the world 👍
when are you!!!! going to build my chicken coop ?????
Thank you!
Wow. This is completely amazing and awesome. I just built a new coop but now i am thinking i need another coop.
This is amazing! Somebody really loves their feather babies.❤️
16:40 That's a great way of saying they are almost pure profit and are stupid easy to make. I would love selling roost bars also. 😄
Your videos always make my day so much brighter!! I love imagining my future coop and writing down all the new and creative features you guys come up with ❤️ Just getting my mind away from all the stress right now is very therapeutic and much appreciated!! Seriously you all are amazing 🥰
Thank you Tina! We appreciate your kind words. It really keeps us going.
Love all of the important details you have included in this coop
Thank you Kathy!
My mom grew up during the Great Depression, so was used to living simply. By the mid 1940s she was a divorced mom with 3 kids. She managed to find someone who sold her a vacant lot with a chicken coop on it. She hung drywall herself and made it a little house for her and her little kids. Things got better and she did really well in life. But, I’m sure if that old chicken coop was anything like this one she would have loved it.
Like the view of our Flag at the end. Nice shot over the beautiful countryside and coop. Flying high and Free, as it will REMAIN so. Thank you.
Don't know how I ended up here not even looking to get chickens or anything, but I watched the whole vid and what a character am I right?
Thank you, that's a huge compliment for us.
Great quality coop and very informative video. Nicely done guys !
I just love Matts nail polish lol
I like the chicken run, very delicate gift for the chicken.
This is awesome!! When I can finally have chickens again, this is what I want!! 👏🏻😄
Absolutely beautiful and great quality. Love the rebar and overlapped base.
Also, I could imagine the full coop design being easily modified for a shed and green house
Great idea with the green house. I've seen green houses setup that way, with the chickens on one side and the green house on the other. The split hen house, functions as storage for both. This one is definitely one of the nicer one's I've seen. The raised floor with that material, is definitely next level. Makes it really easy to collect the droppings and get them to the compost/fertilizer pile.
Yeah
That is a gorgeous chicken house…id live in that!
This is call Master suite chicken 🐔 in. Wow 👌🏿
Quality work right there.
I loved this hen house design. That would fit in anywhere. Great presentation. 👍
Thank you!!
You make me want chickens!!
A Caroline coop is on my bucket list! Your work is functional, save and beyond beautiful!
I made my coop and run too big for my brood but my idea (like yours) was to keep everyone healthy and the chicken mess able to compost and breakdown fast without having a smelly sty. Chicken coops dont have to stink. They aren't pretty on the inside after a bit but they dont have to stink. I absolutely love your coops, your education and reason for why you do what you do, and addressing the chicken police. Lol! I'm really digging the roost poles. Those are different. I did have enough room in my run to put up a deer feeder that holds 150# of feed and can feed up to 6 times a day. We added a funnel to channel the food to a smaller area because the feeder slings 20+ feet outside of the run. We added running water using pex tubing and ran electricity to the coop. Southeast Texas gets pretty crazy hot during the summer so we added a fan and supplemental lighting with heat lamps for the winter months to help with egg production. We did pay close attention to breed selection for our area so they wouldn't be too stressed out during weather change. Thanks for the video and my chicken group have been asking for ideas on coops and now I can help direct people here for great ideas and details for a successful coop and long life to their brood. ❤
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words.
Absolutely love this!! Wish ours was like this, definitely need a bigger one!
Thanks!
Gorgeous!
As usual: B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L! I've been watching all your videos over and over again because I want to build my own (even though I'm just a weekend woodworker). You're so generous to let us copying your coops and learn from your mistakes (if there's any, I don't notice).
Thank you for your comments.
I like the idea of having the storage in the coop; I have all the feed and stuff in my garage
Storage near the chickens is why our Craftsman Coop is so popular. It was born out of necessity. 😊
Wow - what a beautiful coop, very impressive 👏🏻 As always with you guys it is a pleasure to watch the quality of your work and your commitment. Thanks for yet another great video. Stay safe in these difficult times 🤞
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching our videos. We appreciate you recognizing our commitment to our customers and our business.
I love that chicken coop. It is really fabulous. Lucky chickens. Y'all do great work
I would love to get this for my chicken-lover grandma...
Wow! That is one incredible coop! I love that covered run - something like that would be great in snow country where we live. The chickens would be able to wander around outside no matter what the weather is.
Thank you for the compliments Jane. It is a very large run, plus the chickens have a huge open are to explore now, but you're right, in the winter, when there's a lot of snow on the ground, they have ample space in the run to be comfortable too. Thank you for watching.
My bags are packed, I'm movin in!
This coop 🔥
I gotta make a pinterest board just for carolina coops......you guys are doing more than selling and building chicken coops, you are making it okay to dream....and I love that
Matt here the guy in the video- Thank You!!!!!!! That has to be one of the best comments i have ever received.
@@CarolinaCoopsVideos You're welcome. When you ask a person "who are you when you dream?" Often it seems its okay to restore old cars or buy expensive sports gear but rarely does it seem or feel like it's okay to want something like a coop that looks nice....idk how to explain it but keep doing what You're doing, b.
@@burtonwillis6454 Thank you! We will, wait until you see the next ones coming up.
I have a friend who raises backyard chicken. He added a room off his garage for the chicken. Then built a Run. He has 2 window plus a door. Live in Wisconsin. The windows are opening 7mos a year. Never had rain or snow in his coop. the chickens love the air coming in.
You do nice work! It actually looks too good for chickens! My chicken coup also has the next boxes on the outside for easy access. I built it with the nest box floor on hinges so I can pop the latch, the floor swings down, and the shavings and etc. fall right out.
You guys really build great coops. As a builder, I know framing and the versatility of your door and windows is awesome. Great work guys.
Thank you so much for the compliment!
Plg
Wow! Bob's Adventures hailing from Idaho. Beautiful coop!
Very very beautiful
I want to see a working coop with all the chickens in to see how things are in reality. Further, I find that one small long ladder and tiny hole into the nesting area can be a bit of a bottleneck. It would have been good to have two, one on each side (not completely to the side, because of the risk of rain hitting it). Two might be a quite an essential thing because these hens can be quite vicious towards a particular hen and she therefore might have an alternate point of escape. Also, there might be lots of hens here, which will mean more traffic on one small ladder back and forth.
I had no idea chicken coops could be so gorgeous! This is very cool, thanks for sharing this amazing video, so informative and such styyyyle ❤️
Thank you Hannah! We think there is no reason why a chicken coop can't be gorgeous! If you can dream it, we can build it. Thanks for watching.
Very beautiful and perfect coop. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Wow! Gorgeous! Thank you for the thorough tour of this amazing coop.
Thank you for watching Susan.
This is beautiful!! You should add a section to the run with Green House panels on the roof so they can get sun. Will also pull in heat in the cold months as well as vitamin D in warm months.
It's tall enough that they will get sun from the sides
Dude, that's a five star hotel in a chicken world.
Ding!! Bonus Round!! yeppers!!

I want one!!! Gorgeous!
A gorgeous piece of property.
Hello from Indiana, just watched your video and love the way this all came together!!!! My coop / run is in serious need of being redone and you have given me several ideas!! As I proceed, I would like to be able to reach out to you with questions and advise.
Thank you for a wonderful video!!
Debbie
I’d love to have one of your coops but I’m sure we couldn’t afford it. Can always dream!
Awesome!
Absolutely amazing coop!
Wow, that is BEAUTIFUL! Love the design.
I love your coops. And despite the naysayers on here, yes, I would absolutely buy one from you and will when we move again. Our current coop was built by my husband and is also overbuilt, overkill, and overly beautiful....but we’re past building our own, lol!
Thank you for those comments!
This is incredibly great for happy hens. GREAT JOB!
Love this video, making mine a bit smaller 6 X 8. Still very workable.
Such a stunning coop. Love all the ideas and attention to detail. I could happily live in it! ;)
Thank you.
Lol…I was just thinking that?! Nice for a little getaway…a desk and a comfy chair in the run!
Superb workmanship, guys! Loved every minute of this presentation. Hope a water tank will be put in:) If I lived in the states you’d be my first choice for a hen house :))
Thank you so much!!!
Love this keeps your chickens safe.
