Nice video. I just got through watching Hell House 4 which I liked more then all of them. And yes, the clowns! Simple scares are still the best...creaking stairs, noises coming from a dark room. I think the director of these films understands this well!
This is absolutely what I was looking for, didn't see anyone else ranking all four films. First time viewer, liked and subscribed! Big fan of Hell House LLC the first, and also quite enjoyed 2, appreciated the way they filled in some of the lore and back story. I think I'll skip 3 and head right to Carmichael Manor.
I agree with you 100%. The 4th iteration is a VERY good movie and in my opinion, has even more jump scares-that are effective-than the first film. Plus, they tie it in well with the first one, while giving it some fresh, new, legitimate angles. Also, unlike other movies where the principles just stay put, they show that they did attempt to leave and why they had to come back. I liked "Origins" a lot. Oh, your beard is still smokin'.
This hell house series is criminally underrated I mean seriously the 3rd one was eh but wow the others are very effective and truly scary. And nothing scares me easily
Best horror films ever!! Sooo underrated I agree film 3 was iffy but I enjoyed the the idea of good vs evil and the constantly wondering if russel was good or bad
Agreed. I watched them a couple months ago and had a hard time sleeping at night for a few days after watching the trilogy (was before the fourth one came out)
Nice video and I agree with your ratings. I watched Origins last night and it surpassed my expectations, this series needed a new lease of life after the mediocre Lake of Fire and Origins has done that superbly.
The blanket scene! My family was making fun of me when I jumped at that one. And that was my second viewing! Looking forward to watching the new one tonight on Shudder.
Hell House 4 doubled down on the clowns and it paid off. Beside some lazy writing to set up the the 3rd act, I agree that the 4th film is the second best, and I will watch the 3rd film at some point, although probably rewatch the 2nd before then@@TheHauntedBeard
I appreciate you brother! And agree with your list fully! I got introduced to the Hell House LLC franchise late last year and I was instantly hooked! One of the best found footage horror franchises! I gotta say VHS is my fav tho.
I agree….this latest hell house entry was not that bad. I love true crime TV shows, so I enjoyed the incorporating of interviews and found footage. I also thought the acting was pretty solid from everyone across the board. Even though I did find the clowns creepy, I thought they were a bit overused. If anything, I actually found the murdered family more creepy and effective. Going in, I had low expectations, but found myself pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.
I'm not scared of clowns at all, but I agree there is something about the clowns in this series that is creepy AF. Brand new to the channel and can't wait to check out more! Oh, I like your beard. 😊

Origins getting such good reception made me want to watch it and the original for the first time. I think it's probably safe to skip over the other two, but I'll keep an open mind.
@@TheHauntedBeardthat is odd. I feel the opposite way. That the 2nd one could be skipped since it is such a repeat of the first. The third one at least brings about the destruction of the hotel. Without it, the fourth one won’t make much sense.
Agree on the 1st being the best. Not in love with any of the others. I discovered the real Abaddon hotel on the way to a family trip about a week after watching the original. It's on Pennsylvania road next to a great giant "country store".
Great review of the movies. The first one my fav. (the good) great creepy and claustrophobic atmosphere (the bad) the lady is an accesory acting and the hotel seems more a restaurant-house, the second one (the good) the characters has a good paper here and is tightly scarier or more direct (the bad) make-up ghosts in front your face are so ridiculous (meh), the third one (the good) the female interviewer is convincent and fits very well digging about the project and the mistery of the Insomnia project of the main character, who also was intriguing (the bad) the team is sterotyped mostly, the devils looks like black blankets running, the fourth movie (the good) pretty scenery of the big house (much much better than the small hotel) and the (tapes?) of the past of the family is interesting and quite suspenseful (the bad) pretty house wasted with "not much" happening, the clowns are a subject of distraction, and the ladies speak too loud and they do an obnoxious theatrical melodrama. Anyway I appreciate your points of views, and for sure you are SO RIGHT about the raw mood of filming of the first one i agree with you (and of course they kept the same let's say organic style of the whole trilogy). See you soon!
i thought the 3rd movie actually had pretty good actors imo russel wasent that bad either he did have some lines that fell flat but mitch was great and all the other supporting roles were good as well.
I didn’t mind the guy playing Russell either. He acted like an aloof billionaire with a major secret. He nailed that. On the other hand, the actors in part 2 (aside from Mitchell and the camera guy) were God awful.
Was honestly surprised at how scary these are if you really pay attention. Haven’t seen the fourth yet so I can’t rank it. But in terms which offers the most pure fright, I would say 1, 2, 3 in that order Story-wise would be 1st film, 3rd film, 2nd film sounds like the newest one is good so definitely will be watching soon
Just finished watching the new one, it isn't bad that it lacks gore, but the creepiness and the atmosphere did justice to it, the clowns are really iconic for whoever watches these, idk how I would rank them, same as you but don't know If 4 is above or below 2
My ranking is similar! 4. Hell House LLC III 3. Hell House LLC II 2. Hell House LLC 1. Hell House LLC Origins Origins really took me by surprise because I honestly didn’t find 2 or 3 all that interesting! Still, clearly there was a reason I kept coming back to the series, and Origins really amplified everything I liked from the first movie!
I dont think there's a bad movie in the entire franchise. First and fourth are the best. And while the third seems to be the weakest for most, its very interesting how the story plays out. It rewards though who watch it multiple times (without someone explaining things to them in the moment. Its much more fun to find them on your own.)
I thought 2 was the worst. It had the worst acting and I caught myself getting distracted a lot because the characters seemed like they were reading lines and over-acting. That one girl should not have been so freaked out when she thought that guy asked her to come into the house on her walkie talkie. Even when he said he didn't tell her to come in, any normal person would just assume they were being pranked.
Totally agree about 3. It was just disappointing. Currently, 4 is my favorite with 1 and 2 tied for second place.(I didn't like 2 the first time I watched it. Then my kid got me to rewatch it--several times as it's her favorite--and I really liked it since. She is the best person to watch these with as she sees EVERY Easter egg!
The Carmichael manor is the best it's really creepy the girl peeking from behind the wall is the creepiest scene and when the little sister hides in the closet and the dead sister says Cassie and kills her
Although I think both 2 and 3 are pretty forgettable and just not necessary, I surprisingly prefer 3 over 2. I felt the acting was better and liked that they were back at the hotel for some scares (a few). I wasn't a big fan of the lore and ending from #2. But yes the newest 4th film is outstanding .. 1 and 4 will be annual rewatches for me!
The second had a really good scare when the two guys were in the dinning area trying to use an ouija board. At first I didn’t care for the third that much until I finally understood the ending. Definitely prefer that over the second now
You feel the same way about the 3rd one as I feel about the 2nd one. That one wasn’t scary to me. Nothing new or fresh was revealed. The first movie already explained that Tully had a cult and was collecting souls. The acting was noticeably bad in movie 2. The actors playing Molly and Jackson Mallet were hard to watch and Andrew Tully was cringe in that one. The ending was nearly the exact same thing as the end of the first one. I would also put Origins (number 4) above the first movie. It is very close, but I legitimately was unsettled and has a hard time sleeping after the last one. It also makes the investigator, Margot, more human with a more realistic reason for her decisions. I never bought that Alex put all of his friends in mortal danger just for money.
I actually need to watch two and three, because I didn’t think they were that great. However, if you care about the world-building, it seems like they all tie in to four really well. Like I noticed the clock and oujai thingie from two. So I liked four enough to go back.
I’m in agreement with your ranking, though I was a bit harsher on 2 and 3 lol. My IMDb ratings are: 1: 9/10 4: 7/10* 2: 3/10 3: 2/10 The first movie is one my favorite horror movies of all time which is why I have it rated so high (I rarely give 9’s or 10’s, 1’s and 2’s are also rare). For 4 I tentatively gave it a 7. My rating may have had some expectations bias due to my absolute hatred of 2 and 3, but I don’t yet know which direction that bias was lol; either my expectations were so low because of 2 and 3 that I was pleasantly surprised and overrated it, or my hatred of 2 and 3 bled over into my critique of 4 and I underrated it lol. I’ll watch it again in a week or so to see, but overall I liked it and for sure found it sufficiently scary. I’ll also note my hatred of 2 isn’t necessarily that the movie itself is really bad, but more of my own preferences related to horror: I don’t like background/explanations of spooks because it ruins they mystery and takes away the fear for me, but that’s just me (that’s why my ratings of the Paranormal Activity movies got successively lower with each one). 3 just sucked lol.
