Quite literally, the TXR games and genki have pretty much been dead for nearly 2 decades and nothing has really came close to those games, so this is kind of a miracle

I'd say Highway Warriors 2 is closer to Shutokou Battle in terms of presentation and gameplay (cel shading aside).

i was not paid to say this
i was orgasming the whole time i was playing the game, only thing to make it better is making the loading screen continue even when it finishes loading and adding a "press any button to continue" because the B roll and the music is just so chill and ethereal, it is a great way to meditate and let all sink in and just take a breather between all the action and thrill.
I know having it automatically continue may be the way lots of people who didn't pay any mind to it, so maybe make it a feature that can be toggled on or off in the settings.

even if this doesn't happen i am still excited to see what the full game will have to offer

Since the big studios don't make good arcade racers anymore, we'll make them ourselves.
This isn't entirely true when people actively shit on good/creative racing games and continue to suck up sim racers dry.

I love how the trailer isn't some over delivered bullshit just to sell the game. Instead, it's plain gameplay which says way more about the game than any action movie like cutscene we get to see for the mainstream games and studios.

I know a lot of people really want to call this a Tokyo Xtreme Racer revival, but I personally don't feel it as a long-time player of the series.
That's not a bad thing though, I'm happy to say that I can confidently identify Night Runners as Night Runners, so I look forward to the release, Jem.
Agreed. This game seems more based in reality. TXR felt more like an rpg with fantasy elements to me. You also don’t search for rivals cruising the expressways and flash your high beams. You meet in PA and setup drag races. It would be nice in Nightrunners to flash on rivals and have a rolling start to the races.

@@pallav8725 not sure, but TXR series had an rpg like progression with the story. Some of the bosses intros felt very epic as well and they even had strange visual effects coming from their vehicles as they raced. Also the fact certain wanderers would only come out under certain circumstances felt a bit like an rpg also.
@@pallav8725 I mean that's literally Racing Lagoon. with all the flavor of a jrpg in tact. If you are curious its a PS1 game that just got a translation patch. Overall great game.

I downloaded the prologue on steam on a whim couple days... Oh god it's the best racing game expirience I've had in a long time and single handedly revived my hope for racing games, And learning it's from one dude alone on kickstarter money is wild, Shout out to you Jem and I'll deffinently be there when this game drops.
I love the No More Heroes bitcrushed audio from the boss introductions. Nice touch.
In 2002 this was the fantasy in my head of what i'd be doing as an adult.
I tried the game. Love the loading screens. The VHS videos really make it stand out from the current racing games and warms my heart
The best part. Is how this game makes your eyes water from driving at high speed.

Found this game through a insta post, grew up with NFS 2012.
This shit is AWESOME
Unironically one of the only racing games I've been excited for in a long time.
I really appreciate the lack of bs or exaggerated animation with "*note, not actual gameplay footage" in the bottom corner, it's just a genuine display of gameplay which feels like something we rarely get in this industry now.
Really looking forward to the release and future updates that may come with it, this game looks phenomenal
