Yes, that's right. Colorado Cyclist and Planet Cyclery are both permanently closed.
The closure was announced in April 2024. The company cited increased competition in the online retail space as a significant factor in their decision.

My passion for bikes started when my parents opened a shop in the 1980s called Parker Bikes (we were located in Parker, Colorado). My love for cycling has continued since then, in my work and with my hobbies of road cycling and mountain biking. After my parents’ shop closed, I worked for other bike shops (including Lee’s Cyclery in Fort Collins), where I built and sold bikes, fixed and tuned up bikes, and managed inventory.
I love working on bikes and want to share my passion for cycling with others. So, next time you’re talking cycling with someone and wondering how to get started or where to go from here, you can think, “I know a guy!”

Remember Niagara Cycle? They were great years back. tHanks for the video
Thanks for digging into this, I’ve been leery of ordering from any sort of close out event, given some of the stories people have posted online.
Glad it was helpful!
I still remember when they were called Cambria Bicycle Outfitters (CBO). Small, rustic shop that specialized in mountain bike stuff.
I used to ride my bike over and pick up stuff from their Broomfield location. I miss having them there. Would sure be good if they came back.
I'm not sure if they will open that retail location. I think Cambria just too the naming rights for their ecommers. It is a bummer, though. I liked talking to their staff; they were a good group and they will be missed. Thanks for sharing!
Just glad there’s some sort of movement and (hopefully) is in a positive direction.
I bought over 500 of those patch books from them for 3 cents each. I sell them for 3/$1 at the swap meets.
I'm the same, and I give them out to promote my shop. It's a fun idea. Once I go through these, I might have some branded for myself. Thanks for sharing.
A few years back I was speaking with a distributor and explaining how in the Auto world, people buy from the dealership but, in time, search out an independent mechanic.
With bikes being sold direct to consumer as done in Europe, I hope to see more shops just like yours doing well.
We have a chance. We won't get rich, but we will stay in business. Thanks for watching.
I am in California, and have purchased parts from Cambria bikes with no issues. I was able to find parts for a 90’s mtb and a guy named Tim from online orders was helpful with questions and shipping costs. 😃
Thanks for sharing!
The MTB industry has a Target group of buyers. (The Rich Boy's Club) Companies produce a relatively small.batch and Jack the price high.
Same thing happened a few years ago with Nashbar and Performance.
Now based in Chico, CA with a new warehouse and a retail store.
Christopher Steiner wrote the book $20 Per Gallon: How the Inevitable Rise in the Price of Gasoline Will Change Our Lives for the Better. As fuel prices increase, expect more utilitarian cycling and far less recreational cycling.
cheap energy is what has lifted most of the third world out of poverty....cheap energy increases standards of living. this is well established reality in the third world. you need to travel more.
@@kursk88-k1t I have lived and worked in Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Kuwait, Iraq, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and other locations, often in the bottom tier of those societies. I have a deep understanding of some bad situations worldwide. Bicycles are an awesome solution to fuel issues worldwide. Please note that single speed cruiser brake 🚲 have transformed Rwanda's ☕ production and profits. Read the book. It's sort of too leftist and optimistic for me, but generally excellent.

@@kursk88-k1t I understand the energy problem better than most, and have lived and worked all over Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the USA. I'm done going all over the world. A utility or cargo 🚲 is vital for the third world and keeping fuel costs down. A recreational 🚲 isn't useful in an economic downturn.
@@kursk88-k1t if we tracked fuel costs divided by average income vs percentage 🚲 use may be interesting to look at. My hypothesis is that fuel prices and daily utility 🚲 use percentage by a population are strongly correlated.
If the US economy gets much worse, recreational cycling will be purely an elite sport like polo, and utilitarian cycling for work, groceries, etc will skyrocket.
Dude, it already is. The average bike you see on trail is over $1500 (not that you need one that expensive), most places that have good trails are at least MHCOL, the vast majority of these select places have poor mass transit & taking any sort of transit with a mountain bike isn't really feasible so you need a car onto of the COL, and the specific areas with thr trails are even higher COL and NIMBYs keep development out so access (parking, etc) is restricted/cost money/long drives.
I would guess more middle class and below people golf than ride MTB. Its not a cheap sport.
Life would be pretty hard without the Planet.
