Max couldn't even pay for the Kraken, because he was supposed to have fed it to Sheoldred before the draw step... thanktully, it didn't matter because he wiped the board anyway.
@@cinosaurus did it not? I feel like Max got massive card advantage due to him being the monarch for a while, since he used his Kraken that should have been sacced to Sheoldred
I’d throw in a mesmeric orb into Phenex and watch your opponents squirm lol. Maybe a self mill backup strategy with thassa’s oracle or lab man wouldn’t be a bad idea
I'm surprised in a way that not that many people build kamiz, especially since it kinda does everything. draws cards, makes your stuff bigger, gives doubles strike for those massive damage triggers, fills your graveyard if you wanna play reanimation stuff, and gives unblockable. it does so much for so little, and if you wanna be hated by your friend you can use proliferate and infect to kill the table pretty fast
@@pescettoculetto7732 yeah it has so much variety, I'll be building one myself because I had the precon and reanimation/damage trigger do sound really fun with him
I can see Phenax in the 99 of a Captain N'ghathrod deck... milling is fun, but doesn't really add to your board, while the captain turns that milling into board advantage.
Captain N'ghathrod is probably the better Commander out of the two, but if the goal is actually to win through mill, he isn't a great fit. I would wager that nine out of ten wins with the Cap are from beatdown and stealing permanents, rather than anything related to mill.
If you are going to continue playing aggro with your Phenax deck, that's fine and doable. You can keep the Eater of the Dead combo as a surprise endgame later on if you have board control. Personally I go all mill, because it's an Arcades deck that wants to hit 99 damage per player, and I keep a couple or so combos as finishers. Still love seeing this commander played, one of my earliest builds.
*Tips for Phenax from a Phenax player:* Your commander cares about big butts, use that to your advantage. Stuff like Mortivore, Charix and Consuming Aberration in tandem with untap cards like Intruder Alarm or Dramatic Scepter make milling your opponents a lot easier. You even have some really good 1 drops in the Crabs but I assume you run those automatically. I hope this helps you realize how much easier Phenax makes milling your opponents out and maybe even convince you to keep it. Definitely one of the coolest Dimir decks! Edit: You NEED as much hate for graveyards as you can get or you WILL lose, trust me 😅

@MTG Mudstah Shouldn't Max have sacrifised his Kraken to Sheoldred? He shouldn't have been Monarch that long. Tho is seems like you guys for got about the Monarch on turn 7 or 8.
I have a atraxa +1+1 counters deck, and if no one board wipes, that’s pretty much a win for me but it’s still one of my more casual decks. I have hamza in there and apex devastor. So when I can make apex cost 7 less and then put out 4 creatures that all come in with like 10 counters it gets pretty ridiculous
Kamiz also makes the bigger creature unblockable and the smaller one doubke strike. So even if Kamiz *was* able to target sun titan on the last turn, it would have been unblockable while Kamiz was double strike. The 'lesser power' clause is what makes it 'balanced'.
I ran wrexial for years as a mill deck. The secret is to play/search for consuming abbaration..mill to a land is such a faster way to mill. Copy that creature..mill to 2 lands. Well you only have 35 to 38 in your deck and you have 6 out..meaning I only need to trigger it much less.. plus if you are doing other inadvertent mill you might hit other lands which speeds up the count. Wrexial was just a value engine. Non threatening but definitely would get you a board wipe or other awesome value. Mill is primarily a control deck first then it wins. Rather then have a game plan execute said game plan.. people drawing cards and doing thier thing actually is your game plan other then them winning
I love the *idea* of Hamza, but every time I rebuild it, I find myself coming to the same conclusion. Not fast enough, compared to other base-Green +1/+1 counters Commanders, and not enough value compared to the stuff people play, these days. I tried Lathiel in an effort to get some value from the stuff I collected to build Hamza, put him in the 99 there, and ended up much happier. (The Delney isn’t a superfluous expense, promise, but if you gotta choose, get the Archangel of Thune.)
I feel like your deck would be better with Mirko Vosk since you are running a more control oriented deck and don't really use Phenax's ability. You still run into the fact that you have to decide who to attack with him, but he mills faster than Phenax
man, i play phenax as well, u need more interaction and pillowfort, and faster mill cards like traumatize etc and more combo mill i would like to play against your phenax
It seems you're not actually playing a Phenax deck, but rather a mike&trike combo with necrotic devourer backup, lots of counterspell and bad reanimation with cards like phyrexian reclamation. All of that makes little sense with Phenax as a general. You could play Tree of Perdition and actually win the game, or even Charix ... Also you missed all Sheoldred triggers. Nick clearly won this game, his back must hurt from carrying the table and taking care of threats by himself lol
Hey Muddstah.. I have a super fun Phenax Relentless rats build. It’s basically completely built around the Relentless Rats aspect so I can beat down, and just adding my commander changes gears to a mill deck.
Your deck didn't seem to mill alot of cards if that is your goal. I'm brewing a Phenax edh mill now and just about every card has something to do with milling opponents or creatures gaining strength from cards in graveyards...just about all my creatures do some sorta mill or get power from milling. Just keep working at your deck! I hope mine plays well when it's finished. Now, it could've also just been the hand you had, we didn't see alot of the deck in this game
Max couldn't even pay for the Kraken, because he was supposed to have fed it to Sheoldred before the draw step... thanktully, it didn't matter because he wiped the board anyway.
He got the card draw from the monarch so it kind of mattered
he literally attacked with it
5:18 So... the table forgot about Sheoldred's trigger?
Yeah the nadir kraken should have been sacrificed
lol I keep seeing people miss her trigger in videos. Like if I hardcast Sheoldred you best believe I'm making sure I never miss a trigger.

@11:55 Kamiz could have given sun titan double strike as long as it has lesser power. This is because the wording says choose instead of target.

Kamiz’ double strike part of the ability doesn’t target. So sun titan would have been able to get double strike if it had less power than kamiz.
