Great review. I own the 1866 max (wood and chrome), its a great pen at a great affordable price. The A3 I haven't used it just yet, but it looks really good. I own the Silver and Rose Gold model.
I’m a professional manga artist, and I personally prefer the Hong Dian 1861, it rights perfectly well for a budget pen, it is 3000+ JPY so it is on the pricey side if your on a tight budget but if you don’t want to spend Hundreds it’s good
I have the 1860 Max. It has a #6 black nib. Why this has a #5 nib is unclear. My nib was very scratchy. I think it was made more than 2 years ago when their nibs were not as smooth as they are now. I am guessing it can be smoothed with micromess.
@@ForTheLoveOfPens I adjusted the tines and also smoothed the nib. Nothing made it better. I ended swapping nibs with another Hong Dian nib and works like a charm.

@@santauxia thank you! I’ve been very impressed with both models
@@ForTheLoveOfPens Ordering the Brass model as we speak $16.

My black forest carbon fiber came with 0 cartridges. If you received 20, you struck gold, lol.
@@markferguson3365 lol I was really surprised!
You can remove the lacquer with steel wool.

There is a huge variety of Hongdian Black Forest pens! I recommend checking the tine alignment before polishing the tipping material.
this is a different pen
