I Thank You Marley ,. On Instructions About Swatches,. WOW!! I see the difference in it,. I never realized how important it is to do Swatches... Thank You So Much..☺️🙂😊😁👍❤️💜👏 Your awesome teacher.... Happy Knitting...
Marley, you are such an excellent teacher!! Thank you for all of your tutorial videos, but especially this one. It demystified the "scary" of making a garment, beginning with the measuring of my chest and trying to pick the right size for my body. Please keep producing such thorough, helpful, and professional assistance!!
Marley, thank you so much for the clear help. I am a new knitter and am learning as I go. When I was a teenager my mom started to teach me, but passed away before she could even teach me to bind/cast off. I spent decades wishing I knew how to finish a project. You have taught me what I needed to know. Now I have the confidence to try a sweater! Thank you a million times.
Marly.... You are an excellent instructor... You think of everything. I learned so much from this video! I was especially impressed by what a difference yarn choice makes. It was so interesting to see how Differently each sample of yarn knitted up...and produced a different gauge. It was amazing. Thank you for taking the time to give us such detailed instructions. You are the best💜
I'm so excited to start this!! I knit along with your sock KAL and thanks to all of your detailed instructions and tips I knit socks all of the time now. I love that I can still go back to those videos when I get stuck while knitting socks.
I haven't knit for almost 50 years. This sweater is beyond why I want, so I just ordered needles and the yarn. Please, tell me I'm not biting off too much here. Thank you for a fantastic tutorial, you are so easy to understand and follow!
Marly you saved me. The lack of proper swatching explains how hard I made it for myself before. Now I can confidentiality follow any pattern and get my size exactly. I did my swatches for this sweater, measured it then washed it and measured it again, wow I was going to use the wrong size needles . Thanks so much.
Thanks so much Marly! I've been knitting most of my life - 50+ years, but I have never had the patience to make a swatch. I always just jumped into my pattern, but oftentimes the end result did not fit. I knew doing a gauge swatch would have solved this problem, but I was stubborn and just thought swatching was a waste of time. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways! I am now a true believer in swatching.
Thank you so much Marley. You have explained this so easily at long last I understand the importance of making a gauge swatch. I recently made a jumper 30” bust which turned out to be 38”bust it was huge and the arms ended being so long. This has made me understand the importance of Guate swatching. Can’t wait for the next session with you. You are the best instructor ever.
thank you so much marly... I'm a beginner wanting to knit my first sweater and for the first time i really understand why the swatch is so important. really helpful!
Marley, thank you so much for all the information you shared. It is all so important to all of us knitters. Especially the swatches. I won’t knit a sweater without knitting a swatch first(haven’t tried one yet). By the way, I liked what you said about a yeti! I love to watch the tv shows about them and Bigfoot! 😂
I'm so excited to begin my 1st "LIVE" KAL. I've only just pick back up my knitting and crocheting after decades of dormancy. My Irish grandmother would be happy about that I think. However, I wish she had taught me the continental style of knitting that she did instead of what she called, "American knitting". I'm having a devil of a time trying to switch... But my left hand isn't cooperating. Soo... This will be an "American" sweater... drat! I went to 4 craft store AND Walmart trying to find Hygge Charm without any luck. To to those who think the regular Hygge is the same weight only missing the sparkle... Nope. It's a 5 weight. Com'on Red Heart deliver my package already 🤨 Thanks Marly, for the fun and informative video! Good luck everyone 🍀
I'm 3 yrs late for the actual KAL but enjoying it. My 1st sweater perfect for learning the construction of a sweater. Can only build upon this experience.
I wish I could follow along but still have too many crochet projects I must do before I can even pick up my knitting needles for first time. I'll definitely be following you along on your videos especially the ones where you're teaching your mom how to knit...😉❤
Thanks for the in-depth lesson on gauge. I'm a fairly experienced knitter and learned some things, mainly how very different various yarns work up. Cute sweater, and I want to make it!
I bought thru red heart US....couldn't find a Canadian site. How about you?? Also the 20% discount code had expired prior to this video being published!
@@christinacruden886 Wow!! That's awesome! My mom taught me the basics as a kid, and I started up again about 2 yrs ago as I'm currently away fm work for medical reasons. I love the creativity of it! Patiently trying to teach myself the Continental method!! Love Marley's channel!
Great video Marly! 100% agree on the gauge swatching. So important. I wish I could make this sweater but I have way too many unfinished projects. I will be following along though. You are a great teacher and I know I will still be learning a lot! Thanks!
This looks great and learning so much! I am a new knitter and have only made hats and shawls or blankets but nothing like this. Sooo excited 😆 thanks Marly
So, Marley was not kidding when she said don’t try to use your blocked swatch on your sweater. I undid my swatch and wound it into a ball. Tried to use it to start the cuff of my second sleeve and it was really curly and crazy. I used Alize 100% Royal Merino and it is soooo nice!
Thank you, I am so excited to start this knit sweater. I have the pattern printed. My square knitting needles in a range of sizes up to 11 have arrived. I have the yarn. I have a size converter chart that I found on amazon. just in case. Have been added to the FB KAL group. Love it and thank for your clear instructions. I have been following for a bit now.
Marly-Excellent and informative instructions! While I thought I knew everything about creating a swatch, it was a great (and informative) review. Thank you!
I would really love to do this project but the next two months I have so much going on. I do love to crochet but would love to get over my fear of knitting. This looks like a fabulous project and I love all the details that Marley gives us. It makes me feel like I can knit too. I am going to try to save everything so when time is available I can make this gorgeous sweater too. Thank you for all of your instructions and tips. I feel so inspired by them.
Thank you Marly , you are a wonderful teacher , just ordered my hygge charm yarn from red heart , I do hope it gets to me in time to start along side everyone else next week . Very much looking forward to the KAL .
love the type of sweater you are wearing now can you teach us to make something like that. I am a two x and not fond of slip over sweaters too many hot flashes need to be able to take it off fast! lols
I'm a beginner, and a bit nervous that I won't know all the stitches used. However, I'm also excited to give it a go! Fingers crossed, needles at the ready.
Omg just got here and I’m so excited! Gonna watch first and then start. Also I’m so stoked to know what that L shaped hole in the little ruler thingy is for. This is such great advice! I love Bigfoot, too!
I might be a little late joining the party, but I'm still so very excited to do this! The sock KAL last spring was awesome! Can't wait for this one as well! 💖
This helped alot to know more about the different yarns, the differences of the sixes in the swatches. Wow! Good to know. I'll have to just wait for my check to come in and get the recommened yar Hygge Charm Red Heart. Thanks for a very informtive video.
Hi, Marley! Recently, I have had lots of requests for knitted items, and I have been asked while out in the public about knitting ( I always carry mine with me). I have referred several people; including my 8 year old Granddaughter who lives 8 hours away from me; to your channel. Why? Because I’ve watched your videos teaching your Mom about knitting! You are such a wonderful knitting teacher and I think anyone who has the desire to learn would benefit greatly by watching your channel. I really enjoy the reviews with you and Kaitlin, too. Love the friendly banter between you both and your reviews are so informative and thorough. Thanks, Marley. Please tell Kaitlin (sorry if I spelled it wrong) thank you, too.
Excellent video! It was thorough on gauge and I'm excited to start this. I'm late to the party, I know, but I'll just have to knit as quick as I can to catch up. I avoid sparkly yarn but the colors are pretty (I'm also going out of my comfort zone with colorway Fireball) and it's not a lot of sparkle. Thanks for the new pattern and video!
Thank you Marly! I’m looking forward to this KAL! I crochet & I’m just getting back into knitting so this KAL is very fitting for me. Again thanks for this video of important info to help us get ready in the right way.
Hi Marley! This video was extremely important to me. I'm glad I decided to watch it. I considered myself a great crocheter not a great knitter, until I watched this video. I NEVER knew how important a gauge swatch was until now. I crochet baby items. (Sweaters, booties, blankets etc.) All of these items turn out to be much larger than they are supposed to be. Now I know why. I ignored the gauge 😔. So I have been itching to knit something for myself, saw this video and decided to give this a try. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this much needed information. It's so important!👍I always thought gauge was a waste of time but I was SO wrong😔... Another thing is , when I did do a swatch and the stitch count was not matching the pattern gauge, I would pull it out, change hooks and use that same yarn for another swatch. (not good I see) Ok so tomorrow I will go to Michael's and get the Red Heart Hygge yarn and do a gauge swatch so I can knit my first sweater😀 You are an excellent instructor. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and skills with us.
Deirdre Evans I’m so happy it helped :) gauge is so important. It’s the math that is used to make items actually fit. I can’t wait to see your sweater. Be sure to join the group :)
Thank you for explaining the sizing! I don't know why the finished size didn't compute with me. All I could think is it was somehow the number you gave +10. Smh. I'll be following the pattern 100% as written.
Thanks so much for this wonderful tutorial, can't wait for trying it. Can you please make us another tutorial about the Cardy you're wearing, it's awesome.
Here in Germany, not all Red Heart yarns are available. I can get it through loveknitting (German website) but needed yarn us not available here. No other way but to substitute with another worsted weight yarn. Cant find though the small pattern to make gauge. Guess I just have to make a few stitches (w/out ribbing). Looking forward to the knit along to make the lovely sweater.🤗🤗🤗
I was not able to get this yarn anywhere in the town I live in. So I went online and ordered from Joann as Red Heart was out of the color I wanted (Meteor) but now I will be way behind but that's alright I know Marly will be here if I need help. It will be about ten days before my yarn arrives 😡 Thanks for listening to my rant.
I finally found a yarn that is similar in stock enough to do this and that I am getting stitch gauge for (after 3 tries -good thing I got extra just in case.
Love watching your videos! Unfortunately wont be able to participate with this KAL but will definitely be knitting it up when the pattern is up on red heart ♥️
Thank you for this kal!! I have a question. I do do swatches but I through them in the washer (cold water) and dryer(low heat) I treat my swatches as I would the sweater itself. Wow. Finally understanding gauge and all the variables that affect it. Thank you, Marly.

Never too late learning something new. I am still learning. Made my first gauge swatch!
Great!
Hands down: this is the best video I have ever seen on knitting. I learned so much.

Thank you. I make a big effort to have these KAL's run like a class with me. So you get more detail than in other videos but it is necessary.

Excited to do this, I've always wanted to knit a sweater!!!
Hello I love this design!!! ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you! I’m so excited to start
Oh this is darn good!!!!!
I hope I can find an equivalent yarn here in the UK, preferably with a bit of sparkle too
When you do a gauge swatch would you buy extra yarn ball to do the swatch to make BB sure you have the right amount for the sweater .
I can’t wait to try this!
Excellent info for making sweater with gauge! Tfs waiting on my hygge charm!
I was not able to get this yarn anywhere in the town I live in. I didnt know you had a page on fb. So i love your podcast so i joined your group
yay!
LOVE this Marley!! Will be knitting along with you!!!💜
Thank you for this very helpful video. 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Looking forward to this. Thank you.
I finally found a yarn that is similar in stock enough to do this and that I am getting stitch gauge for (after 3 tries -good thing I got extra just in case.
Hi, teacher! I just found this CAL, I flying to the yarn shop so I could make my gauge ;)
Yay!!! My second knit along!!!
Welcome. I am thrilled you are joining us :)
Love watching your videos! Unfortunately wont be able to participate with this KAL but will definitely be knitting it up when the pattern is up on red heart ♥️
Awesome thank you
Wow lovely 👏👏👏👌
Hi Thank you for the sweater .Do you please can tell what red Heart i need? Thank you Claudia
Love your videos
Do you think Hygge yarn will react similar to Hygge Charm. Not a huge fan of sparkle.
Thank you for this kal!! I have a question. I do do swatches but I through them in the washer (cold water) and dryer(low heat) I treat my swatches as I would the sweater itself. Maybe it's because I don't use animal yarn? I honestly don't have time or space to lay out all our (6 of us) knit products. It's not bite me in the rear yet but will it?
What you do is just fine!!!! You will treat the swatch just as you do your sweater. ;-)
Thanks Marly, I will like to make this sweter for cool winter. Whath yarn you recomend me. Thanks
