One thing that just came to mind while listening to your theory is that perhaps these unique malice-infested enemies in the underground caverns are in fact impervious to damage from anything that isn't the restored master sword, meaning that stealth and distraction is the ONLY way to get past them until a certain point in the game kind of like the E.M.M.I. in Metroid Dread.
Oh, that's actually a very good possibility
It could be a situation where Zelda is the only one who can defeat them, bc they can attack and hurt them using her holy power that she might be regaining in her side of the story perhaps?
Great observation about the metal crates, I would have never caught that. Another thing that might support this is the mural behind the title in the first trailer. If the mysterious figure is also the green hand and Link has the green hand, then the mural could represent Link and Zelda working together.
Makes since. I really hope it happens. Imagine playing as Zelda and being able to get the Sheik armor.
Okay why does this make so much sense? The focus on the new slate has been quite significant in promotional artwork. One thing I think we can certainly rule out is Zelda dying at the start of the game, like many have been theorizing. That wouldn’t make much sense, taking this into consideration. And of course the tweet “What’s she holding in her left hand?” A Sheikah Slate isn’t exactly useful to a GHOST is it?
My guess is that Zelda has the paraglider in her possession when she falls, which initially restricts Link's ability to easily traverse the overworld after that. (Or perhaps makes it to where he initially can't safely get down from the sky islands.) After all, the paraglider is an heirloom of the royal family.
That would explain why link is using a new paraglider in the trailers!
2:37 always wondered why Purah has another Sheikah slate and why there was this loose end of a random anti-aging rune. You’d think ancient Ganondorf would want something like that 👀
Purah made her Sheikah Slate herself.
Ganondorf probably doesn’t want an anti aging rune because he doesn’t need it in the first place. He can only die from being killed by divine holy weapons, and we know he can live for hundreds of years with his own power / magic. He’ll most likely just recove his hydrated, alive Gerudo body after the Magic Hand’s seal is broken.
@@Mari_Izu yes, a device we never see and only barely hear about, but only enough to make Purah’s age make sense. It just seemed odd to me for some reason, like the plot line around Purah was curtailed. Surely Robbie and her sis Impa would have a Sheikah slate made by Purah, they would all sit around and play angry birds on their sheikah slates 🤣. But for real it makes no sense, you are telling me Robbie wouldn’t want to maybe close the 80 year age gap(!) between him and his wife if he could just ask his pal Purah to help him out? What other runes did they know about?? There are a LOT of old sheikah and gerudo texts in those labs 🧐
@@IamSupreme333 there are no limits to Ganondorf’s crustiness lol. Does he ever get killed tho? At best he is sealed with a holy weapon. He can be turned to stone, stabbed squaw in the forehead, etc and he keeps coming back. Fair point you have tho, when botw came out people brought up that the MS isn’t even needed to beat any of the forms of calamity ganon. But maybe it was just part of the freedom? You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to in botw
@@ChrisHoulihan Bro in Twilight Princess, Ganondorf straight up dies. That’s why he reincarnates in Four Sword Adventure.
in the last shot of the last trailer, when zelda is falling, you can see the torch she’s holding falling as well. Seems like a strong indication that she will explore the underground
I am glad to see Patricia Summersett coming back to reprise for the role of Zelda. My hope in Tears of The Kingdom is Nintendo, Fujibayashi, and Aonuma will make her a playable character in her own side story, and be more involved instead being sidelined. To see her perspectives after Ganondorf’s awakening. This is all we have seen asking for since Skyward Sword.
I think she may actually be an AI Companion.
BOTW already had the bare bones of such a system with Wolf Link, and even in that game I felt like that was cut content. It'd make sense they fully implemented it this time.
If true, I hope we can switch between Link and Zelda
Yeah, maybe hanging out with that pack animal from the first teaser
How switching between Link and Zelda would work, you say? Just take a trip back to Ocarina of Time and take note of its main game mechanic: Switching between Child and Adult Era.
While the Legend of Zelda popularized/pioneered the Light/Dark World system, it's Ocarina of Time that took it to the next level. Child Link cannot use any weapon he got as Adult Link, while Adult Link cannot use any weapons he had Child Link except for the bombs. Functionally, Adult and Child Links are two different playable characters sharing an inventory menu.
The only way to switch between the two characters is by going to the Temple of Time and placing/removing the Master Sword at the pedastal. That location is the hub checkpoint and a very convenient way to keep the other character in a safe place to switch.
Logically, if you were to switch between Link and Zelda, they would both be at a checkpoint/commication tower talking. The checkpoint provides a safe haven for both characters. One will remain at the checkpoint while the other go around exploring until they find another checkpoint to communicate back to their partner. This would assure that you can explore the world freely as you please as either Link or Zelda.
Gannondorf will steal Zelda's Sheikah slate and use the anti-aging rune to rehydrate himself.
If we're lucky, she won't die when she falls. I'd love a section where she plays like Link from the first game with a sheikah slate but no swords, just arrows and some weak magic strikes.
Maybe she has the paraglider when she falls?
Chance of a super emotional scene between Zelda and Rhoam in TOTK? 💯
This was the most fleshed out argument for a playable Zelda so far.
Only hitch. The game description on Nintendo's page makes it sound like it will be unbound open air again. This makes it unlikely that the game will have fixed Link and fixed Zelda areas. The option to switch between the two, if possible, is most likely in my opinion
We also need to be aware that according to Age of Calamity, it states that Zelda is the only one who is able to use the sheikah slate to its full capability.
It's hard to determine if you or Zeltik make the best Zelda videos. You're both brilliant at what you do. This video was a fresh take on the information we've seen so far, so thanks for presenting it. It's a convincing argument, and I think you might just be right.
this would be amazing, and i could totally see it happening! awesome vid!
I hope so much that she is playable or at least is more involved and maybe helps or assists Link.
Also what if Purah’s anti-age rune is used in Ganondorf 😂
I wonder why Nintendo never mentions going underground, only to the skies “and beyond”.
If it is a big deal, then I understand why they want to hold back. They didn't reveal Cappy until the last Mario Odyssey trailer, for example.
I like how you are thinking out a gameplay concept of Zelda as a playable character. But if she is ever to survive the underground, Zelda is gonna need a lot more than her upgraded Shiehah Slate to deal with hordes of monsters. She needs mastered her archery skills with the Bow of Light and her sealing powers.
If Zelda is playable my theory is she will be in the present while Link is in the past. I think that Link loses consciousness after getting the hand power up, wakes up and flees Hyrule that's covered in darkness. Ganondorf is killing everything with his minions so Link flees to the past to fix the master sword in the sky islands because the sky islands do not exist in the present as seen in BOTW. This I think explains the blood moon isn't just a cut scene in the game, it'll be a continuous night of death so those day time segments in the trailer are showing Hyrule in the past. Also Zelda using her powers to speak to him while he's in the past. Trying to help solve the mystery of how to defeat Ganondorf by coordinating with Link. Oh and those green swirly energy areas on the map? They may just be time travel points.
Wow. New sub, you’ve got some good observation skills!
It’s nice to find someone who doesn’t think she’s going to die, so many people think that..I mean, come on, she’s literally the (excluding Link) main character lol.
Thanks!
Yeah, she's definitely not dying lol
There's some wild and outlandish theorizes out there xD
Serious question: What does it really mean that we don't see any Sheikah towers?
We're not in the past, because the Great Calamity has already happened.
And we're not in the future because we'd see some remnants of Sheikah tech (shrines, towers, and the giant pillars surrounding Hyrule castle). We see nothing!
Could we be a Link in an alternate dimension??? I hope not. But it begs the question, which bears repeating:
What does it really mean that we don't see any Sheikah towers?
Thanks for a great video!
Maybe the character from the mural is the owner of the hand that helps Link. If so, perhaps Zelda's quest will involve collecting those green spirit flames from the depths beneath Hyrule to restore that character. And maybe that character is some sort of manifestation of the Spirit of the Hero (and that voice clip from the trailer is her asking the spirit to lend Link its full power once it has been restored)? Whatever her quest could involve, it'd be awesome if she's playable this time around!
As far as we know, Zelda isn’t combat trained - imagine having stealth sections where we play as Zelda trying to make her way out of the underground by using her Sheikah slate to quietly take out enemies or cause distractions!
She would of game some archery skills from Link’s help.
She uses the Sheikah slate and sealing magic in AoC, while not completely canon, it shows that the Sheikah slate is completely usable to fight with. It just states that only Zelda is able to use it to its full power.
This is the most well thought out theory on how and why Zelda could be playable I’ve heard. It would be really interesting. Maybe she’d only be in dungeon sections? We’ll see soon!
I don’t understand anyone who still thinks she dies, nothing suggests that besides “she falls down a chasm but we don’t see what happens”, there’s nothing else. It’s just so unlikely. And being real, Nintendo is not the kind of company to pull a fast one on its fans by killing one of its most popular Zelda characters ever.
I'd love it if Zelda were finally playable, especially since a huge part of her storyline in BOTW was that she wanted to do more exploring/researching than a regular princess was allowed. It would be amazing to finally get to play as her, and see her put her own skills to the test that she never got the chance to do in BOTW. I imagine that underground stealth and puzzle-solving would play a bigger part in her role than Link's, since her only means of combat would be the Sheikah Slate, and that just sounds so intriguing to me. It's gonna be a huge missed opportunity, and awful character development, if they simply render her "captured" yet again until the final boss fight :/
I would like Nintendo to create at least 1 game where Zelda is the lead character and you get to play and see the story from her point of view from start to finish. Short start as child while she's having visions telling her the kingdom may be in danger while meeting a potential future side companion "Child Link". Then she learns that she might have powers and tries to learn how to use some of them. At this point would be when the time jump happens and and the adventure really starts and she would need seek out the help of a old friend she met back when she was a child to join her on her journey. Both Zelda and Link would be in the Game but Link's role would be more of a sword and shield "Follower" Lore Wise "Her Knight" kind of like how the cutscene memories are in "Breath of The Wild", but game play wise like the Followers are in "Skyrim" for example that you can gear up and make stronger as they help you in battle. Zelda would fight more using magic of light powers, runes, Magic of Light Bows, and wear her Robes she is usually seen in through out the series but give them different powers as she collects them. Does Nintendo even have a main-player Hero Mage/Caster/wizard/Sage charterer in any of their own title games?
Zelda does mention In the first games ending that a divine beast stopped working..
The slate could also stop.. but.. it didn't really start working till the calamity.. the beta one Pura made did however with her test rune...
you said 12.2gb file size but it's 18.2gb according to Nintendo website
Huh, I did. Funnily enough, I wrote 18.2 on the script. No idea why I said that LMAO. Brain fart I suppose 🤣🤣🤣
@@ZeldaLore it happens 😝
Welcome back Zelda Lore. Missed your storytelling brother!🍺
It makes sense - one of the early title leaks for this game was “bond of the triforce” and the idea was that this title leak was an obvious reference to Zelda being playable along with Link - ie. bond
Source?
How would Zelda survive underground without her magic? I know she has the new Sheikah Slate, but what kind of powers would it have if the original Sheikah Rune abilities will now be granted to Link via the Green Hand? Surely, they won't give Link and Zelda similar or identical abilities through the new Slate and the Green Hand? If Zelda were to be playable, I would want Zelda with her full magical abilities!
She has her sealing powers and a bow of light
I don't think she is going to be playable, but maybe she could be a companion that helps link to decifer certain puzzles in dungeon (if there are dungeons lol)
OOOHH Boy Nintendo Is Pulling Paper Mario AND Paper Mario: A THOUSAND YEAR DOOR On Us AGAIN 🤣🤣🤣 Where You Had To Play As Peach (Which Was Cool In My Opinion)
THIS VIDEO IS AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE, LIKE ALMOST ALL OF YOUR THEORY VIDEOS!!!
I hope so, and I also am hoping to have the clothing/armor in TotK
I hope you're right!
Man, I hope Zelda being playable would be really cool, and I’m just totally looking forward to this game. Everything you can do I mean seriously May 12 can’t come any sooner lol.
Good supports for the theory! Good job 👍
good video is it ok if I ask you a question
Hyrule warriors age of calamity has a playable Zelda, but again it would make much more sense just to release a playable Zelda in tears of the kingdom
I'm just hoping she's alive at this point. Playable Zelda would be too good to be true.
She is not dying. I dont get why people think that LMAO. She's the titular character.
She will very possibly land of some squishy mushrooms or plants and be fine (and playable).
Link fell a great distance in Majora's Mask and was fine.
@@ZeldaLore You're right. I'm just worried since she's my favorite version of the princess.
@@HipnotikHylianZelda came back to life in Spirit tracks.
@@ZeldaLoreExactly, I’ve seen plenty of characters survive falls like that.
@@ZeldaLore Link only survived in Majora's Mask because he landed on a Deku flower.
She better be
I wonder if link will die in this one, and end with Zelda defeating Ganon, thus giving credence to the franchise being called "The Legend of Zelda"
OMG zelda falls down and she is playable in the underground area while link is saved by the green hand
So Zelda's long hair would be difficult to animate, but Link's wouldn't be?
It's more like the long hair would clip through Zelda's body if she is doing a lot of acrobatic movements and such. Link's hair isn't as long as hers
@@ZeldaLore True. Good point.
not in game playable but dlc probably
I don´t think that will be the case. Why show artwork of a DLC that won´t release until a year or several years after the game's release, before the game's release? They didn´t do that for BOTW, and they are making heavy emphasis on Zelda and her slate. It would be weird for them to do that for all of her content to be in a DLC
Come on Nintendo, make this game worth $70!
I’ll be honest I don’t want her to be playable, it certainly would be interesting though! So long as Link still has access to all areas of the game, would be crappy to have her only be able to access the underworld, I want Link to be able to
boring.
Same, don’t really like the idea of a swappable but fragmented gameplay. I think most of the clues people are talking about are a bit of a stretch anyway. They gave her short hair but gave Link new long flowing locks? 🤷♂️
Why? It's like complaining that Child Link has no access to Gerudo Town. Switching between Link and Zelda would be like switching between Child Link and Adult Link.
@@evanbao93 while I understand the comparison, it’s not like that at all. BoTW was built with a fundamental freedom, an immense world that is your playground. Putting Zelda in just for underground exploration is a limitation that goes against the whole game’s mechanics. Also, while Zelda may have a new slate, she’s never been much of a fighter (though I understand that can change), further constricting the otherwise free flowing gameplay loop. So saying that child Link is comparable because he didn’t have access to one relatively small area isn’t really true, Zelda would literally be a different game entirely, while child Link could do everything, go everywhere. I get that it’s exciting to finally play as Zelda, but if it’s implemented the way people suggest it, then it’s better without it all, practically nothing good would come out of it gameplay wise in my opinion, apart from the novelty of a playable Zelda.
I do realise this is probably an unpopular opinion though! :)
@@kellerglee Well said! I couldn’t articulate it as well haha but you make solid points :)
I honestly think Zelda dies in that cutscene
She won't, everything points against it
She literally shows up later in the trailer, clearly not dead.
The real question is are we paying $70 FOR A GAME THAT RUNS AT 30FPS
Yes Sir, we sure are
Not if you pirate it.
@@evdestroy5304 true but everyone was running 60fps mod on the Wii u version on cemu. So let's hope it works as well with the switch emulator
Spoiler alert. She won’t by. You fanboys need to calm down.
Spoiler alert: she could, as this is a videogame and virtually anything is possible.
They said that about Aerith too, been traumatized since 1997
First
Not sure why everyone seems to like this idea so much. I can understand throwing the girl gamers a bone with a playable Zelda but at least make it optional if they really must. Hopefully they make the voice acting optional as well because for all the things these games do right the corny voice acting is not one of them, hampers the emersiveness of the game imo.
It would be refreshing to see. We've seen potential of coop and controlling other characters in the past, such as Medli and Makar in WW, Gongoron in Phantom Hourglass and Phantom Zelda in spirit tracks.
And as mentioned in the video, Nintendo themselves have toyed with the idea of playable Zelda before with Skyward Sword, so I find it very likely that she could be playable. She is a heroine just as much as Link is, in her own way.
@Zelda Lore I don't mind the way they did it in WW as a coop type gameplay segment but haven't played any of the handhelds unfortunately. Anything more than a few brief coops where she's needed to progress through a dungeon would be too hard of a break from the game's tradition for me. Liking the channel, keep up the good work!
@@Original_Meepster BOTW broke game tradition by being open world on everything, including the "dungeons." And there has been a call for a more linear experience that people felt when doing Zelda dungeons. But what made the Zelda dungeons works was gameplay progression. It was Metroid in that every item and key you find unlocks a new area in labyrinth. There is a specific order of dungeons you must complete to get that feeling of progression and difficulty atmosphere.
But going back to classic Zelda dungeons means sacrificing much of the nonlinear style of BOTW. So how does one bring back that feeling of dungeon exploration?
A different character on a different journey you can communicate and play as outside of Link's open-world journey.
Essentially, it's less of co-op and more of two games in one.
@Evan Bao Agree with everything you said about the need for more linear progression while maintaining the BOTW open world freedom. However the game would be non-buy for me if your suggestion somehow happened.
What if they just gave Zelda her own little 3 hour Zelda's crossbow training game sometime in 2024 and called it a day?
@@Original_Meepster You can switch between Child Link and Adult Link in OOT, so it's not something alien in the Zelda series.
In fact, Zelda is known for the Dual World Gameplay pioneered by ALTTP. Link and Zelda being playable in two different worlds would fit that tradition.
And spin-offs like those ain't gonna cut it. The only spin-off worthy of featuring Zelda as playable is Hyrule Warriors. Especially Age of Calamity which features Zelda as the main protagonist of the story.
So I want Zelda's role in TOTK to top that.
She shouldn’t be playable. This is Links game, he’s the protagonist. Do it in a spinoff game if people want that so badly. Designing a game around two characters abilities get tricky and everything will be dumbed down. It would only take away from Links adventure and that is why I play Zelda games. He is why I play Zelda games. I love Zelda too don’t get me wrong. I’d like to see more of her, more story involvement. The formula has worked so well for so long it isn’t worth the risk.
If it was 100% optional and didn’t effect my time as Link or the gameplay then that’s fine. Otherwise make a separate game.
It worked for Spirit Tracks, it can work here.
@@evanbao93 It doesn’t need to work here, you know why? Because Zelda games have reached legendary status without having Zelda playable. Just because it may have worked in one game doesn’t mean it needs to be in every game now.
Why do you want to play as her? And if playing as her was so good in spit tracks why don’t more people talk about it?
@@7milesdavis So did Mario, yet Mario had playable Peach in several mainline games like Super Mario 3D World and the new movie is emphasizing Peach as an badass ally for Mario rather than a damsel in distress.
The question because why are you so afraid of a playable Zelda? Her name is in the title, so naturally people wish to play the actual princess for once. And not just for a one-off.
Beside, BOTW already destroyed iconic traditions by giving Link a blue shirt and black hood instead of his classic Peter Pan green garbs. That's heresy for many, yet accepted overall by the fandom. Don't think you can appeal to traditions to deny change (which is what caught many off guard by Ash's retirement in Pokémon).
@@evanbao93 So what if her name is in the title? That’s just the title. People know you aren’t playing as Zelda. She hasn’t been a damsel in distress for quite a while now. She even helped out immensely in ocarina of time. And so what if she was needing to be saved?
Omg spare me the StRoNg WaHmAN speech. That’s what this is really about for you people isn’t it? You don’t have any reason to want to play as Zelda besides “ but but but she’s a wahman and she needs to be strong.”
There are plenty of games and entire series with strong female leads dating back to the earliest times in gaming. If you want to play as a strong woman you have tons of options.
You know what would be even stronger? Give her her own game? You don’t think she’s strong enough for her own game? Are you a sexist or something? You still haven’t given me one good reason she should be playable besides “strong wahman.” ( also we are talking about Zelda not Mario. Nice try though.)
@@7milesdavis She's likable, she's courageous, she's relatable and she offers something new to the table of gameplay.
And look who's being an immature misogynist with insults, false equivalences and deliberate misspelling of words.
You haven't even rebutted my point about Peach beyond "it's Zelda not Mario" because you know that Peach is still her sweet and lovable self while being badass and playable in 3D World and people love her for that.
if we play as Zelda does that mean we will be able to change her clothes and see her naked?
That's actually a very good question xD
I doubt it, since Link would have full access to the surface, while Zelda would be in underground caves. Link could find and buy clothes, but not Zelda. Their gameplay would be very different I feel
Good lord i hope this never happens...
I've been playing zelda since 1998, and to put zelda in the main seat would be so crap😂
Pray that this woke bs don't reach LOZ..
Also would be hard to do without zelda being a side character (that is a whole another genre of bad decision)
Link is reincarnated with the triforce of courage, zelda with wisdom..
So we're looking at a stealth based "detective zelda" game..
why cant zelda just be a reskinned link?
@@mrbobb1610 that comment does not even relate to anything i said..
How is it "woke" by seeing the story unfold from Zelda's point of view? You would not give her the Master Sword and shield of course not. She would have her own set of powers and abilities she would need to learn to use that make Zelda who and what she is... a Sage. Link could still very much be in the game but as a silent follower "Knight" much like it's shown in the cut scene memories in Botw with his own sword and shield that is much needed to assist during main boss battles still for the final blow lore wise. To play as Zelda would start from the beginning so it would not exactly be "woke". You would just be seeing things from another angle. Maybe call the new game series "The Legend of Hyrule" because that is really what all these series are about "Hyrule's" legend more so then "Zelda" herself.
@@amyhartman6786 sorry to be the one to tell you, but all female reboots of anything sucks... This is not even a personal opinion.
Zelda's point of view would be:
1.waiting for link in a castle then hide out in sheika village before getting trapped in a crystal.
2. Hiding out as a pirate waiting for the hero (that one might be cool tho)
3. Getting sent back in time and Taking orders from rauru until some stuff happens (not gonna spoil)
Etc.
Zelda is a supporting character, so making a spin off game like luigi gets would be okay. As long as it does not take away resources and time from the main games.
You can play her in hyrule warriors and that DS game that i always forget.
Why do you think Zelda will be playable? The answer is no. Nothing's indicating that she'll be playable.
Watch the video. All points to her being playable
